That coin is amazing. 44 BC he said, that makes the coin over 2000 years old. It's just wild to think about, someone back then held that in their hands, kept it in their pockets or purse. Traded for things with it, etc.
In that condition, it was most likely stashed away in a pot or something or it was discovered along with many others in similar condition as "hoards". So these weren't in circulation that much. I have a collection of Roman Denarius and some look like they're in "like new just strict yesterday condition" and those were found in a well preserved hoard and sold on coin dealer sites. Generally more worn coins like the lower face value bronze coins would be way more worn than silver coins because they were used in common day to day transactions like buying bread or wine.
@@BopWalk Oh that's interesting. Yeah I don't know too much about coins or whatever especially older coins like this, but it's just interesting to me to think how old it is. The thing is, he's right both times. The coin is going to draw a ton of interest. How many people do you know that would think it was cool? Probably a lot. But then, how many of them would pay over $100,000 for a coin they can't use? Probably none. Valuable items need to sell to be worth buying for him, and people don't just walk into pawn shops looking to drop 100 grand, you usually go to pawn shops to get a deal.
That’s because the producers have already researched every item that gets brought onto the show prior to filming the encounter. That way it appears Rick, Chumley, and Cory knows about almost every item
The sword is insane! Made in Persia and then shipped off to Russia for a Russian prince who died in battle. It’s amazing how it managed to bounce to some random guy in Las Vegas.
Considering the belief that a portion of the royal jewels were taken by members of the romanov family who fled and some may have been stolen by revolutionaries it's not a big suprise that some ended up in the USA.
The Alamo patch almost made me cry. I would NEVER let that leave my family unless it was for like medical treatment for my child or something like that. A trip?!?!?
The stretch serpent toy moment has to be one of my favorite moments in pawn stars history. Just cuz your old don’t mean you know everything. Even Chum holds value with his “specific” knowledge.
@@Hshjshshjsj72727 no he said if you get the right buyers it could go as high as that, he even stated that it only went to 30k ima previous auction because the item wasn’t marketed properly you have to buy page space in collector magazines or websites so the collectors know this item is going for sale.
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Being good at business is not about squeezing every possible dollar out of everyone. You need to keep customers happy so they come back, build a good reputation, surround yourself with a good team, and so on.
The Russian Sword one was actually pretty reasonable on both parts. Chumley laid out his reason for his price very politely and reasonably and the seller refused with a reasonable expectation of what he could get otherwise.
I agree. From a logical risk taking standpoint, Chum is absolutely correct. It doesn’t matter what “it could sell for”. Chum was looking, as any Pawn Shopper must, at the history of selling the object, and with the information he had (eventhough it was not the right market), it still came in underprice.
Being a veteran I think the 6th Army Alamo, patch is so cool. I also think it's sad that many things like it end up in pawn shops instead of museums. I wish things like that would be passed down thur the family, or given to a local museum.

First dude with the coin is trippin. 110k on a 125k appraisal is a great deal, especially from Rick. The dude said if a bunch of people came you might see the bidding go a bit higher, simply just stating a (probably unlikely) possible scenario, but the original appraisal he gave was 125k at a normal auction. I would have jumped at 110k. I was surprised he offered that.
i love this series so much, it's fun to see experts goes to authenticate items the owner brought up and made both the dealer and the owner surprise by it's actual values.
The one things that I hate is when people have these "family" items and then sell it, but then when they don't get a good deal they act like this stuff is something important to the family.
Whats funny is when the guy came to appraise it, he was like I hope Rick gets this patch cause it won't stay long in the shop. Then Rick tells her I can't offer you much cause it will be hard to sell lol.
“Sir, as an expert I can say with confidence that this piece is worth at least 1000000 dollars” *expert leaves* “ Okay, Ill give you 5 cents, take it or leave it”

@@kaldo_kaldono, you are just dumb
Rick explaining the history to sellers that clearly know more about their item is one of the strangest things about this show
its for the audience who doesnt know and the sellers are aware of that
Keyword: show
That’s because the producers have already researched every item that gets brought onto the show prior to filming the encounter. That way it appears Rick, Chumley, and Cory knows about almost every item
The strange thing is you don’t understand you are watching a television show. They follow a script.
I agree.
Expert: "he's not gonna be able to keep it in the shop"
Rick: *"this isn't gonna sell overnight."*
I will never understand how someone can walk into a pawn shop and expect top dollar.
The sword is insane! Made in Persia and then shipped off to Russia for a Russian prince who died in battle. It’s amazing how it managed to bounce to some random guy in Las Vegas.
Sounds too good to be true huh…
@@SB-qh8ps I know right.

@@xxxZ41Dxxx sounds about right.
A trip?!?!?
Kids today is al me me me no respect for family
The stretch serpent toy moment has to be one of my favorite moments in pawn stars history. Just cuz your old don’t mean you know everything. Even Chum holds value with his “specific” knowledge.
Chum lee’s character development is insane
Imagine holding onto a coin for over 2000 years. That's seriously impressive
They probably dug it up relatively recently
i cant even hold crypto for 2 weeks
Unless it really belonged to Jesus, I doubt one person held onto it for that long.
I doubt he's the original coin owner

The Russian sword was placed in an auction after the Pawn Stars episode. It sold for $30,000 (one bid). This was a great move by Chumlee.
Wow that expert was very incorrect!
@@Hshjshshjsj72727 no he said if you get the right buyers it could go as high as that, he even stated that it only went to 30k ima previous auction because the item wasn’t marketed properly you have to buy page space in collector magazines or websites so the collectors know this item is going for sale.
@@billsmith8536 hmm well it seemed he tried his best but it still went for just 30k again according to commenter aaron
@@Hshjshshjsj72727 Yeah, he was way too emotional about it when he saw the sword. I wonder if he was the winning bid, lol.
Least the guy got 10k more than chum offered him , both seemed to make the right decision
I like it when the experts get so excited!
I know Rick is a good business man. But on a few occasions he is real generous.
Very few. Very very few.
Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Being good at business is not about squeezing every possible dollar out of everyone. You need to keep customers happy so they come back, build a good reputation, surround yourself with a good team, and so on.
All for the camera. 😂
The Russian Sword one was actually pretty reasonable on both parts. Chumley laid out his reason for his price very politely and reasonably and the seller refused with a reasonable expectation of what he could get otherwise.
No lmao. Dude never intended to sell it. It's all scripted. That's why offered so laughably little

It was passed down. Thats why it ended up in a pawn shop. Museums dont pay, so greedy people dont donate.
@@rodx5571 They used to pay. some museums pay at auctions if something catches their attention badly. Just most of the time they don't and rely on donations
Such a shame to let something like this leave the family.
I think it was bad form for her to try to sell a family heirloom. :-/
I'm very glad she didn't sell it. I hope she keeps it in her family. If it was worth enough money to buy a home or some property, I could understand....but not at $5,000. That's nothing. I'd keep it.
I find it amazing that all these items find their way to a random pawn shop.
Rick sure knows alot of experts. And he also trusts all of these people...
Did he not take your fake Abraham Lincoln photo by chance?
i love this series so much, it's fun to see experts goes to authenticate items the owner brought up and made both the dealer and the owner surprise by it's actual values.
The one things that I hate is when people have these "family" items and then sell it, but then when they don't get a good deal they act like this stuff is something important to the family.

Yeaaaaahhhh... 😩
Absolutely DETESTABLE!
Whats funny is when the guy came to appraise it, he was like I hope Rick gets this patch cause it won't stay long in the shop. Then Rick tells her I can't offer you much cause it will be hard to sell lol.
Value isn’t based off the hands that hold it; it’s the eyes that want it
Rick sighs every time a customer gives their asking price no matter what it is
“Sir, as an expert I can say with confidence that this piece is worth at least 1000000 dollars” *expert leaves* “ Okay, Ill give you 5 cents, take it or leave it”
