I had surgery done on my Left shoulder in '07 and right '09 both in December. I had a '94 Ford ranger with 160,000 + miles on it and had a manual transmission. Both times my wife would not drive my truck to keep the rotors from pitting and to keep the battery charged. I had to drive it my self during the winter near Buffalo, NY. I learned how to shovel with one arm, push the snow then lift the shovel with your foot

I had surgery on my right shoulder I got told to hold the steering wheel at the bottom then hold the wheel normally with the left hand feeding the wheel through both hands hence keeping my right arm stationary. I got told not to do long journeys and also know your limits. Alan Merseyside/England.

I had a right shoulder repair and I'm still in a sling. Yeah as a driver it's easier to grab the seat belt with a left hand anyway, in my opinion. The problem that I had was finding the seatbelt clasp with the big sling and abductor question. That got frustrating a little bit But I was able to do it. I had no problem driving at 2 and a 1/2 weeks , but I didn't have a whole lot of Pain either. I drive with my left hand anyway from so many years of driving a stick shift. Luckily, I am now using the 1st car I've ever had with automatic So that was a lucky thing. Maybe Practice left handed driving if you need to in a parking lot Or Very quiet side streets with no children.

i can't believe u recommend the seatbelt aids. they appeared to require a bit of force to attach. if a person needs assistance to put on their seatbelt - i don't think they are safe to drive yet. i had shoulder surgery in Feb of this year and opening and closing a car door has to be done slowly. As an RN i am mindful of getting into car safely and the cumulative affect of pain on shoulder for driving occurs reducing strength. ive tried twice and driven a short distance. nope, got to wait a bit longer.

Silicone steering wheel cover allows palm steering without having to relearn steering. If you have to use a card for parking structure access you can put a clothespin or metal office clip on a dowel or cane. That bendy could probably be used to close the door, I hook my foot under the door to get it close.
