In this video, I go through how I clean, maintain and polish/shine my Dr Martens boots and shoes! The boots that I use in this video are the 1460 Pascal Vintage Boots.
I have 2 different processes when taking care of my Doc. My standard process involves cleaning my Dr Martens with a brush, toothbrush and towel every week, and applying Dr Martens own Wonder Wonder Balsam once a month.
The Wonder Balsam is great because it softens the leather, as well as gives it a level of water resistance.
The second process I do is my polishing process. This is when I want to give my Docs a more vibrant level of black, and a nice shine as well. The black polish that I use is trusty old Kiwi. It's what my dad has always used, and it works for me as well.

I’m sorry about all these dumb negative comments. I think the video was a great length and I don’t care how you pronounce the name- I’m not even sure why that matters to all these people. I appreciated how organized and thorough you were. I feel like I really understand the process now, and am excited to take better care or my boots! Thank you for sharing this
This is a good, detailed look into boot and shore shine
Been wearing docs for years, never polished them. Makes them look brand new. Awesome video!
do you need to watch a video to realize that? never ever did you thought/seen/imagine that maybe just maybe giving a bit or horse grease, oil mink or any kind of polish would be a little help for the leather of your boots/shoes? maybe even if not damage them it could get got the could get exactly the opposite of first ?, well I guess you didnt care much on your shoes, if not i ts at least really really curious.
You have now open a lot of opportunitys and nice solutions , welcome to the real/obvious world.
you will get surprised on many many things...been wearing Docs for years?? just 2 years as much, nobody in the whole world would need a video to realize that cleaning and polishing any different material things they could get better and renewed...never is too late
@@julioandina9637fuck me mate, dont have to rewrite the bible to say you're surprised someone doesn't clean their shoes like
@@julioandina9637 a little grumpy huh?
Are you ok?
@@julioandina9637 bro discovered the comment section for the first time
It's really strange hearing "doctor" instead of "doc" martens like how most people say it.
Lol I came to the comments to see if anyone would mention this 😂 because I was thinking the same
I callt it 'D R' Martens
He worked hard for the title
I call them marten docs 😂
I love the throwback to the straight lace video, that's the first vid I watched on your channel and I loved the fact I stayed after. Love the vid as alway!
I got my first pair of Docs for my 14th birthday. It's been nearly 7 years since then, and in that time, I haven't done anything to maintain them. The leather looks worm, and the laces are falling apart, but I just ordered some polish and laces, and I'm really looking forward to giving my docs some new life! I'll have to wait a few days for it all to come in, but I'll be revisiting this video when they do, thanks so much for this tutorial!
so how did it turn out?
Super informative video, as a new doc martins owner this has been invaluable. Keep up the good work.
Just polished my docs for the first time. Thank you so much!
I recomand using clear Polish instead of black polish, because the black polish wil stain the yellow stitches.
Clear polish generally dries out the leather though
Clear polish can also leave black shoes bit grayish
@@Ari.GrandmariAny cheap polish will do that. It has nothing to do with if there is color or not.
This vid has a really ASMR vibe into and I'm lovin' it! 💖💖💖
That was really satisfying to watch! Nice video :)
Great video, finally doing upkeep on my 7 year old docs 😂 your video helped!
Nice watch you're wearing, btw. 🔥
Thank you so much for the tutorial. This really helps!
Thanks a lot bro.. very helpful for me as docmartens lover. Very big thanks
thank you for this! i just bought my first pair today lol
Two years later, how your pair holding up?
Thank you for this lol I bought my first pair yesterday :)
Thank you for doing this!
Very helpful and detailed instructions!
I enjoyed your videos, Thank you.
Thank you!!!
Very nice and detailed video. Keep it up.
They’ve changed the formula on Wonder Balsam! It’s not the same as you’d get in the silver tin. It even smells different.
Nice informative video on how to clean and polish Doc Martens. 👍
Now THAT is how you take care of a pair of boots.
Got it almost done but when mirror spit shine add little polish then water begin very small circles you will see and feel it when need to add more of both my disks look chrome lots of yrs practice lil shine lil water
Thank u Nico!!! Right now im using Doc Wintergrid and i wonder which product can i use for that type of leather!! I dont want it to be too shiny
Help me guys!! Love ya
Good instructions. It shows that you take care of your investments. Good thing.
Awesome review thanks for sharing from Australia 🇦🇺
Nice video! Helped me out
Doc. Martens. Thanks for your video.
Thanks for the vid! Will try
love your vids about doc martens shoes. hope u also make a video review for Geraldo Brando dm sandals.
Couldn't stop looking at your watch during the video 👌🏼. What kind of watch is it?
I recently got a pair of docs from the recent Sanrio collab. They have a hello kitty decal peeking over the counter. Do you think that I need to avoid brushing it or applying balsam in that area?
Thanks so much for sharing this video :) super helpful! My only question is aren’t you supposed to let the balm dry? Not brush it?
yeah I think you're supposed to let it dry for 10 minutes, but he was going a little quicker than usual
nice video! thanks for explain, when a right time i apply the balsam for the first time i buy the shoes
Nice vid, thanks.
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for this
Well done young man 👊😎 I do the same way
Do you use the same brush to clean/brush of any dirt, in the begining, and to polish buff, at the end?
Nice video again :) Anyway, Can i also do this to my adrian tassel black?
Good job guy
Thank you great info
Super simple
Nice boots and rolex
Nico, I’ve made a mistake and applied the wonder balsam on the shoes while there was sand on the the shoes so now I have like a paste of wonder balsam with sand on the shoes, how can I clean and wash away the wonder balsam and the sand from the shoes without damaging? Thanks
i got my first pair yesterday :D
I Put The Dubbin On First Wipe Off The Excess And Then Put The Wonder Balsam On. Is This Right?? They Seem To Turn Out Good. I Have Dr. Martens 1914. Any Ways To Lace The Boots??
Do you straight lace Ur dr martens? If so you should try straight laceing the with yallow laces thay look really nice with the yallow stitching
Great video, My docs tend to scuff and scratch, do you have a method of fixing scratches or making them less visible?
Plenty of polish and elbow grease
Hey nico I think you need background music to fill in that ambiance
nice video as always
no worries king we want to see your thrive 👍
Where is your soft brush from? :)
I use neutral coloured dubbin.
1. Remove laces, wipe the boot down with a damp cloth to remove dirt, allow to dry.
2. Use a dry soft cloth to apply the dubbin, a nice even coat, not heavy, work into the stitching, include the tongue of the boot.
3. Allow to dry, overnight even.
4. Take a soft cloth and buff up.
5. Job done.
The dubbin “feeds” the leather and will help to protect it. Being neutral then the yellow stitching keeps its colour.
Thanks!
thank you ! :)
Doesn't the yellow stichting change colour if you get polish on it?
I can use this way to care Dr. Martens with Arcadian leather?
What you came for starts at 2:15
Really didn't get what he was saying, I cleaned the shoes, applied the wonder balsam, can I use the shoe polish on it straight away? Or leave it for a bit?
Is it safe using a brush to clean pascal leather? Because i heard that leather is sensitive and can easly make a scracth on surface
The doc baslm says let it dry but it leaves it streaky a doc Martin rep said do Not use black polish on them with a brush as it scratches and looks bad
Thank you for this!
should the the brush bristles be hard or soft?
Would otter wax work on these that I use on my blundstones
If he maintained and polished them so well why did the leather crack? How old is this pair? Why is he cleaning boots wearing a Rolex??
Which dr marten boot is this?
Just got a brown Dr Martens boots from a local thrift shop and this is the first video I watched (since you're also a Filipino haha)
have you tried saphir it,s good stuff for leather bro
Saphir is expensive. Don’t use it on the cheap docs, use them on the MIE docs. And even then it’s excessive. It’s a great product no doubt, but probably not targeted to this type of shoe. That being said you should avoid Kiwi and get some other polish.
Why there's no comparision of two boots: polished and balsamed at the end? Good vid tho. :)
Nice
nice
Does anybody have tipps for the inside of the shoe? I find it easy to keep the outside in good condition but after a while the sole on the inside starts to... kind of peel I guess.
you can get the insoles replaced, either with new Dr Marten's insoles, or with another brand :)
I’m so scared to use the shoe polish because I don’t want it to mess up the yellow stitching. Will it start to darken them? Any tips to keep the stitching nice in general?
try using clear polish instead of black, I saw someone say it in another comment
buen video papu
What is the model name of shoes?
The cinelli in the bg though
🙌🏽
The Smooth Martens are Plasiccoated is guess. So it wont take any care inside the Leather.
I used to Love the brand Dr Martins they were as iconic as red telephone boxs in the UK but since 99% are now made in China or Vietnam they are not the same Quality , the Soles wear alot faster and are made without a wooden Shank , No shank means no structure .
Solovairs are almost identical to Docs apart from having white stitching and a sole that doesn't wear as much as Docs and a wooden shank to support your foot.
True, but it’s not because they are made in China and Vietnam, it's because DMs have lowered their quality overall.
Just bought a pair hand made in England not cheap, very well made though.
@@jayjenkins4050 compared to my made in China pair the leather is thicker for a start, anyway, I'm happy with them.
@@jayjenkins4050 A felt midsole. A stronger welt.Tougher break-in period.Sturdier Quilon or Horween leather. No top collar around the lip of the boot.... so... erm.... yeah.... better made.
@@jayjenkins4050 actually I did and I wore them in the 60s too.
I have the same boots but I only have the neutral polish is it the same as the black polish ?
Not quite neutral polish will make them shine but black polish will cover up little nicks and dings that are in the boot while shining
I feel like the 101 vintage smooth boots are the same?
@@NicoMojica I agree. Love your style and video bro..keep posting.
1460 yan? ayos muka syang winchester / arthur boots haha 🤘🏻
Are Pascals for female? I bought a pair and found the toe area to be quite tight (narrow) and so I'm feeling bummed. Did you buy Pascals because you prefer the narrower look? Please kindly advice. Thanks.
all dr martens shoe styles have a slightly different sizing, so the pascals, as i've found, are more narrow than the other 1460s boots, and are recommended for people with narrower feet, i would recommend going to a docs store and trying on lots of different styles to get a feel of the sizing (e.g. smooth, nappa, jadon) and talk to a worker who knows their stuff!
@@hroizenck5939 Much appreciate your advice.
What is the best product to help waterproof them? and what product would be best for waterproofing the yellow stitching holding the sole of the boot the rest, cause water seems to get into the parts on mine
@@NicoMojica Thanks
You might think this is a wired thing but comes straight from my uncle master Sargent use a women's uh oh well a women's tampon to do the finishing tricks lil put the polish on 1st the h2o lil circles going one way then I know some gripe at me but switch your circle s directions every once in a while takes away swirl marks where I was I've had the I'll call them teachers for adults 😉asking me how I get that kind of a shine if it wasn't against regulations I probably make some side canteen 💰
Let me let you in on a product that is hell of a product I been using wonder balm for over 25yrs original issue but this stuff blows wonder balm out of the way it's called Renapur bad ass lil goes long way use sparingly try it
Leaving a comment
Oh man, i will dare not to polish too close to the yellow stitches as u had blackened mine in the past with shie polish. And it's quite hard to clean them.
I mean i had blackened
Use a toothbrush and a white bar of hand soap. Works great
How old are these?
Do you go one size down?
@@NicoMojica thank you!
I keep scratching the toes of my boots, does anyone know how to prevent this/fix it?
RIGHT I LITERALLY NEED THAT VIDEO
Suga IstheG.O.A.T MY NAME IS KAYLEE TOO OMG
its likely the way you walk. you probably have an inwards step.
Jude K I’ve actually been told I tilt my feet inward before, thank you!!
Fvck Off any time haha
cool Sea-Dweller ⌚️
But how about cleaning the inside when it has become stinky?
They make these bamboo charcoal bags you can get at shoe shops and even Walmart now. You have to activate the charcoal once every week or 2 by setting them in sunlight for 2 hours. Once they’re activated set them in your boots when your not wearing them. It should neutralize any odors.
nico i review cannabis strain's on my channel and i got 12 pairs of dr martens, i was planning a dr marten review then i saw ur vids, im doing dr marten tagalog vlogs rn. thanks for the entertainment man, always looking forward to ur channel its amazing
Why kind of watch is that?
@@NicoMojica I'm too broke to even read that comment
How often do you use your boots?
how do i get polish out of the yellow stitching?
No chance, a lot of polishes have dyes in them. You can try to use water, but it likely is dyed all the way through
use balsam and hair dry that b till its soaked, wipe the extra down
It’s easy. Just use a toothbrush, wet the edges down and go at the yellow stitching with some dish soap and the tooth brush. Be liberal with the soap. Works really well
Actually I just use qtips most of the time instead of a toothbrush
7:25
Dr Best meets Dr Martens...!
I'm a bit confused you brushed the boot with nothing on them?
Leather has natural oils and buffing them with the brush spreads it around
It also helps loosen any dirt
@@stargirl_lee thank youu
Flexin on us with the Rolex ;)
haha i thought i was the only one who noticed that
I know they aren't the sturdiest boots on the planet, but if I'm hiking, I wear Timberland. Going to watch Band-Maid, I wear Doc Martens
Size po ng DMs mo brod.
The boots in the video are 42 but I now wear 43
Doc martens... Doc.
DMs age like a fine wine. I always pair it with my beat up Levi's jeans.
