Mr. Knopfler is almost 75 years old. So appreciative that he is still making music. Every album of his I have. The first Dire Straits album to me in 1978 when I was 15 year old was game changing for me. I am occasionally in the discussions of desert island discs, who would you want to listen to and I say modern, Mark Knopfler, classical, Bach. His more recent recordings have been about the common experiences that we all can relate to. As someone who is 60, I have made my bed, I have to live with my choices, I think about the road not traveled. But I also think about the music that has comforted me along the way. Dire Straits which is Mark Knopfler, has been my go to for all of these years. God gives us gifts. Thank you Mr.Knopfler.

Well said!! I just turned 70 & I've been listening to Mark Knopfler since Dire Straits. I remember sitting in band practices of my best friends & how amazed they were when they first attempted Sultans of Swing. Turned out to be more to Mark's guitar playing than they thought!! He makes everything sound so laid back, smooth & easy. Love his songwriting & voice too. Been waiting for this cd to buy myself for my Dec. 26th birthday!!! 💗💗

A long deserted road, it's a cold rainy evening when the truck driver, with sad eyes, drives calmly. He loves to see the lights of small towns flowing through the window and the bright signs of drugstores reflected in puddles. A smile appears on his face when he hear the Mark's hot new riff. The fact you old fellas have followed technology and managed to even find this song on CZcams impresses me, I'm only finding it now, my grandfather loved dire straits and mark Knopfler, my earliest memory of my grandfather was cruising in a 1990 Toyota Camry out to our block of land listening to sultans of Swing, I was 4 years old been a dire straits and mark Knopfler fan ever since, good on you old fellas with a great taste in music 👍

I've a 1988 Gibson ES-335 Showcase edition, only 200 made. I've had it signed only by musician's whose music has greatly inspired me and as well, deeply touched my heart.
Mark Knopfler was, and continues to be my biggest inspiration ever!!!! My personal meeting with him meant everything to me. It is etched into the deep recesses of my brain. My friend took pics of our meeting at 10:45am, and my guitar in his hands. Mark gave me some great advice as both of my wrists had to be surgically fused, thus ending my dream of being a guitarist.
Again, Mark was so kind in meeting with me. I'm so very, very grateful to him - I always will be!!!

Knopfler is like a one-man recounting of the history of popular music, from the highlands circa ~1700, to colonial Appalachia, to ragtime, to '50s rockabilly, '70s rock...and right on through.

It is very difficult to choose the best song from this album, because it is excellent as a whole. However, if I had to choose, it would be Ahead of the Game

I first heard of dire straits when my dad was playing his favorite album of all time Love over Gold. I was totally mesmerized with Telegraph Road. My dad told me that he had just graduated from college and moved to a new town starting his first full time job and living on his own. He played the Love over Gold album on his record player almost everyday. It has become one of my favorite albums too

This song INSTANTLY made me think of, not only Mark's incredibly long and productive career; but of all the great Rock Stars who were in their prime during the late 1970's and early 1980's, and STILL give us new music TODAY! 👍 🎸 🫨 🎤 IMO it’s so nice hearing Mark STILL playing and singing well at his age! I’m almost 70, and only 1st heard him as a ‘soloist’ in ‘15 with ‘Are We in Trouble Now’. I immediately fell in 💖 with that song, as the lyrics had a personal meaning to me, and it was played and sung with talent and emotion. I then began listening to more of Mark’s own music. It amazes me that I recently wrote several comments about Dave Matthews and how I didn’t feel his voice was consistently good - actually rarely. The many other comments replying to mine were in Dave’s defense, saying that it was bc of his age being 50, and thus people are destined to have their voices change and he IS yet a ‘great’ singer in addition to being a guitarist. There’s a 25 year difference between the two! Mark is up there along with some other great artists (I think). For example - Bonamassa, Clapton, Elton John, etc. - all of whom are also over 70, and one actually in his 80’s! I have a video taken from a live concert in Denmark with Gary Booker (from Procal Harem) doing ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ at over 70, that I thought was incredibly good - and even better than the group’s original versions! IDK how ‘old’ those people are who wrote the comments, but I highly doubt they’re anywhere near an age that can appreciate Mark and the others I mentioned - or else they have no taste in music and/or talent!

Everytime I listen to Mark Knopfler, I think about the concert in Oberhausen, Germany. My father, who sadly has passed in 2017, and I went together and we loved it. So happy, that Mark Knopfler has another album out.
Tunnel 13 is just down the road from us here in Southern Oregon! The trial for robbery was the last that our little gold town of Jacksonville before Medford was established. Been thru the Tunnel many times! SO AWESOME to hear a song about it!!!!!

When I started listening to this I was reminded of a song from Get Lucky, "The Car Was The One" but a bit more uptempo ... nice to know retirement doesn't mean stopping what you love and sharing, as is MK's style, with those of us who respect the work!

It`s like "listening" to 50 year old Scotch.
So easy! That man has natural coolness.
Another (75-year old) nearly lifelong MK fan here. So talented, so deeply skilled, so thoroughly discerning, heartfelt and genuine. And yet, there are SO, many, different, Mark Knopfler's . . . there's Strat MK, Les Paul MK, Acoustic MK, Resonator MK, Slide MK, the list goes on and on and on. I can't even BE-gin to name a favorite . . . Speedway to Nazareth . . . You And Your Friend . . . Dream of A Drowned Submariner . . . there's just no way!
And it's an absolute puzzle to me, when I see folks here, hoping (dreaming?), to see him live somewhere, in-concert again. If you've ever seen him play live (and I have, seven times over the past 45-years), then you know full-well that the stage is typically brimming with scores of different makes and models of guitars. But with the recent auction, many of those instruments are gone now, and as his bandmate Guy Fletcher has already clearly stated . . . touring is done. And so, as-is inherent in the foundational tenets of Buddhism and life itself, we come upon new chapters, the turning of pages, and the impermanence of all things.
So, from the heart, bless you MK, bless you for your diverse, never-ending and boundless skill, for your endurance and persistence over the years, and for a 'river', a literal lifelong "river", of musical euphoria.
My day is suddenly so much better. An absolute delight to hear and watch.
