Current developments on the Park Fire, which is burning in the Lassen Foothills Region of Butte and Tehama Counties, Northern California. 6:00pm, 8/6/2024
So would people on social media who never quit blaming and complaining and creating conspiracy theories about fire. Its like the worst times bring out the worst people who cannot shut their mouths.
It wouldn't help, they dont care about anything other than ratings. Some billionaire could sponser a production providing public news and education, but that wont happen.
I was a sceptic regarding prescribed fire until I started listening to you and educating myself. I’m now an advocate. It’s really difficult to predict when a standing dead tree will fall over. We’ve seen dead and burned trees still standing several years later. It depends how much damage the tree has sustained and the health of the tree when it burned. If the fire was hot enough to cook the root system and burn through to the heartwood the tree could fall over in days or weeks. If the root system is intact and there’s enough heartwood to hold it together it can stand for years. There are sophisticated tools to test, heartwood strength, root health, etc. Though testing is typically done on signature trees not an entire burned forest. Thank you Zeke and QTAC!
I have been visiting Lassen National Park since 1989. The first time I went there the view was amazing - miles and miles of conifers as far as I could see with some beautiful lakes mixed in the view. It was a heavy snow year and I was able to drive through I tunnel of snow. I realize now that this was a giant fuel load waiting to burn; all the years of drought made it worse. Still, it breaks my heart to see this area destroyed. My thoughts are with the firefighters and the people who live there. Thank you Zeke for the updates.
Over the long term, forests evolve, along with climate change. In a few years (decades?), the southern Oregon Cascades will look like the Park fire areas.
According to the AirNow Fire and Smoke Map, quite a bit of the thick smoke here now in the Lemhi Valley in Eastern Idaho originated with the Park Fire.
I’m curious about Nevada forest management. I see at bottom of spooner pass leaving Tahoe towards Carson, there’s a huge logging facility in the south of the highway When im offroad enjoying the beautiful trees i see helicopters thinning Genoa peak mountains and kings canyon mountains. Seems as if every mountain range could benefit from these practices. Of course it would take money and everyone being on the same page. So far seems to be working well. I’m sorry for everyone who is experiencing loss. My family in Chester and mill creek, Lake Almanor and graeagle are worried and devastated. Thanks for your excellent coverage and education. Thanks to all firefighters for giving it hell under the conditions you are facing. I hope California gets things figured out soon. I love California and it’s lungs are disappearing at an alarming pace.
Grateful for all hands trying to contain n suppress these fire. Ty. Sacred service. I remember when the cameras in janesville all turned during the dixie. Stay ready!!! Iykyk
Why does the state not use convict crews to clear up the land. I used to work for Tehama County and used them for creek clearing and flood control projects. My experience with the crews was very good.
Zeke if ur wondering if they will be able to hold onto a firing operation should they even do that? Lest we forget paynes creek was 1st firing op n it didnt go so well Also, with all that fuel PLUS FLARES being called to use today,,,how much does that alone contribute to the fires growth and or difficulty to contain, pls n ty.
Well a great idea is to let loggers come thru and clear a lot of that fuel (trees/brush) and that fuel actually be used for home heating OR carpentry or even telephone poles!! With proper Forest Management then there is very little natural resource of trees n brush that are wasted, a complete loss Also theres not air, ground and water contamination from the flame retardant and oil n whatever goes in the flares. This would be TRLLY eco-friendly forest management. To burn cuz u dont have to pay ppl to manage is just crazy. Doesnt the wildlife, structures and civilian lives have value? I say they sure do over a dollar.
A map that you can swivel is great, IF you have a north arrow that rotates with it. Without anything that indicates where north is, it is difficult to follow what you are showing us.
Would be cool if you'd do a short video on pyrophytes & pyrophiles, why trees are often left standing next to homes, and the unpredictable nature of wildfire spread. I understand it's elementary for most of your viewers but lots of kooks use these anomalies to promote wildfire disinformation. Thanks
The world would be a better place if every TV news reporter who covers wild fires watched at least 20 hours of Zeke’s Lookout presentations.
So would people on social media who never quit blaming and complaining and creating conspiracy theories about fire.
Its like the worst times bring out the worst people who cannot shut their mouths.
News reporters should be required to watch Zeke’s broadcasts prior to reporting on wildfires

Welcome to QTAC for sponsoring Zeke! 😊

Thank you Zeke & QTAC & all the fire fighters 💫💫
Thank you Zeke and QTAC.
Excellent coverage! Thank you.
Thank you for educating us on fire prevention and forest management

Not destroyed, changed
Not the same as virgin forest, and that was logged out for profit.
Thank you for all you do in order to communicate with us!
Qtac sounds like the best. Thank you for the explanation and discussion...and humour.
So awesome youve gotten another sponsor keep up the good fight we all love and appreciate all you do
I really appreciate your podcast❤ Great info, great knowledge, great demeanor. I have been in this incident for days.
Just as a comparison, kiln dried lumber is 6 to 8%, so yeah, it's 80+ years of dried fuel down in there.
Thank you for your expertise and letting us in the lookout with you.♥️🌲🐿️
Excellent. Thank you Zeke.
OMG, that fart at 51:13 !!! Priceless! 😂
That was his chair.. we joke about it all the time that he needs a new one
Heard Australia sent an Air Super Tank! ❤ 😊
Thought I knew a little about my beloved forest. Nope. What an amazing education, thank you!
This is super helpful. Thank you !
Thank you for the fire education, fantastic presentation.

Looks like new fire perimeter map is up on Watch Duty.

Thank you.
It has to be surreal for you to see your beloved Mill Creek taking such a hit. Sorry. As if Dixie wasn't bad enough.
Yep a sad event, wonder what the post fire survey will show.
Fires that large create there own wind seems like a real blast oven off the hook ♾️♾️
Thank you great show maps are the coolest
Fantastic mappage. Sucx the fire broke out to the (N) West there. Looks it might be contained to the (N) East w the control burns.
1/2 mile east of mineral summit about 2/3 of a mile over 172
where would you go to get certified for prescribed burning?.

Just overwhelming... :(
