Car had power for sure, but trailers make it even more dramatic. My dad's old big block pontiac cars, old chevy trucks looked like they had twice the power when a bass boat was tied on.
I drove a restored 1969 c10 with a 400hp small block as a teenager. With a 3000lbs trailer in tow, it would lay smoke like John Force.

I've put a few things on my car to make it faster but I know that most cars out there will beat me. If someone is down to play I'm good. I'm not trying to prove who is faster on the street. It's for fun.
In 2019, I had just bought a stock 12 sierra with a 5.3. Was rolling next to a cammed out Camaro and decided to run it thinking it would easily pull away from me. I was surprised that I managed to stay next to it until my speed limiter kicked in. Only wish I had a camera at that time bc that was fun

@@redtra236 Yeah, but even that isn't true. Automatics are preferred for drag racing, and many forms of racing use them or semi automatics these days unless the rules ban them. It's just the better transmission since the computer is better than you in most circumstances.
@@TWEAKLET Yeah performance automatics usually are better than a manual just depends on the transmission. Personally I usually go for manuals just because they are less likely to have transmission problems and usually sell for less than comparable models with an automatic, but for performance driving automatics have mostly taken over. The older automatics definitely are worse than manuals though.

Back in the 70's I learned the important lesson to never presume that my fast car was faster than others. Raced a friend who had a '63 Impala SS (327 punched to a 331, Holley 2x pump, M22, 4:10 rear, cam). Mine was a '76 Firebird mostly "stock". We did a rolling start at 60mph on a 4-lane... I might as well have been mowing the lawn for all the good that did me. Don't judge a book by its cover.

In the early 60's I had a 465HP Chevy that my Dad built for me, It was a very high revving and a beast to drive but back then 300 HP was big. I would race for $100. against guys and dolls who would offer to race for pink slips but always refused that. Anyway I lost 3 X Once because I missed a shift, once because my clutch exploded and once because I was racing a guy with a 1000 HP blown motor. The other 42 times I won! That's right but I also kept track of my expenses and lost 1750 $ to tires and repair, not to mention gas but it was 25 cents a gallon for premium.
