A real shock considering the massive changes in only the last few decades let alone the last 70+ years, televisions were not common in the home before 1950, here in the UK, the late 1950s, so Steve Rogers would have been used to the radio, the world has advanced and changed a lot in the last 25 years, I remember being a boy in the 1990s, nothing we have today was around then really or was in it's early stages. i can remeber my first school getting it's first and only public computer which was in the library, the only other person to have one would have been the head master

@MrRushSkies underrated comment bruhhhh 👏
Fun Fact! Captain America has what's known as a "photographic memory". He can remember things, place, events, people etc etc just by being around them once; and knows all the fine details.
Also, his shield isn't based on a boomerang hence why it always comes back to him. He just knows exactly where to throw it; and exactly where it will land everytime.
I mean dude was an artist before drafting to the war... of course his memory is gonna be quite good. He can be seen drawing a building in rough but accurate detail in an avengers deleted scene
It makes me so sad every time I see this clip, knowing that even though he was in the middle of a war, he now is in a time period 70 years later, it still mattered most to him that he made it to the date for the girl he loved.
"So, we need to make sure Captain Rogers doesn't grow suspicious. When he wakes up, he'll think it's 1945. Now, download a broadcast of a baseball game from 1941."
KEKW
So the thing about the fake hospital scene, is that it's intentionally TOO fake. With all the resources SHEILD has, they could have made thing however they wanted. So they wanted certain things to feel 'off'. That way when they broke the news to Steve, he wouldn't be even more confused. There are a few dissections of the scene around the internet that you can find. The baseball game being a well remembered game, and from 3 years prior is the most obvious clue.
Rambling below
The second clue is the clothes. Who puts a hospital patient in boots? and lets them sleep on the bed? much less in pants and a t-shit. If Steve was out cold and in a hospital he would be in whatever pajamas they provide. They would quite literally have to cut him out of those clothes if there was any sort of medical emergency.
Another clue is the noise of the New York streets. It plays for a while, but eerily stops whenever him and the nurse start talking. There are no noises coming from the other hospital rooms which are supposed to be around him. It is unnatural, especially for someone who is used to living in dense city areas. You can see Steve listening in and noticing this. Steve has super hearing to some capability too, don't forget. He could probably hear the soilders waiting around outside.
curledEspecially
Long story short is that they KNEW Steve would be focusing on this woman as she was going to be the one to come in and break the news to him. So they made everything about her look intentionally off.
immediately
@@bikinibro thank you
@@bikinibro Then why did she say she didn't know what he was talking about, adding to the confusion? Wouldn't it be better if she just explained it to him then and there instead of pressing a panic button and calling a bunch of large men in imposing black clothes that are armed?

@@gamingpro2216 Endgame was set in 2023 and Avengers was 2012. I didn't look it up, but I figured Cap woke up not long before Loki attacked because he seemed pretty new to the culture in that movie, and he'd have gone back in time soon after Tony's funeral.
The musical score really helps swell the emotion in this scene. The slow buildup of what seems like a tense scene, ending with that sharp, sad swelling rise when he says "I had a date".
Also, it's kind of of neat that the first thing he thinks about is the date. Not who won the war, or the state of technology around him. It shows how cool and levelheaded he is, while also underscoring the importance of Peggy to him, that he can get over the changes around him, but not the fact that he lost Peggy. It's something that makes Steve such a compelling character.
Easily the best part of the movie. His being out of time and loving Peggy is so beautifully resolved with the very last scene of the whole Avengers storyline with Endgame where they finally get to be together, actually quite profound. The quality difference between this and Winter Soldier is crazy.
"It's just...I had a date..." I swear to god, breaks my heart every time
pkphantom same. Its also the most important line that steve ever says and when people say that he should’ve stayed with Bucky, it kinda angers me. "You gonna be okay?" One of the few times Nick Fury showed genuine concern and calm at the same time. I love it.
Well, Nick idolized Cap growing up (IIRC, Cap knew Nick's father), and both he and Cap are soldiers, so there's also that commonality between them. Fury knows Cap is tough as hell, but learning that you'd basically woken up from a 70-year nap would be a huge blow to *anyone* let alone someone who'd seen the kind of crap Cap had. I mean, he'd already lost Bucky, and now he's realizing that he most likely lost Peggy as well.
Ok
Fury is kinda like the father/uncle to the avengers
Or the more emotionless view, Cap is basically Shield property based on an "inactive" file. So yeah.... let's just say Fury is not a soulless corporate figure and we're all happy xd

What MCU needs to do is show Peggy sitting at a table at the dance waiting for Steve to appear. She would have been so torn up about him being killed, she'd still go to keep her end of the bargain for the date. Then have young Steve walk in and say, " I kept my promise." That would be a killer start for the next Cap and Peggy movie.

Imagine how that must be for both him and Peggy. For Peggy, it was a literal lifetime. She grew old, had children and possibly grandchildren before Cap woke up. Meanwhile, in Cap's mind, he took a nap and was transported into the future 70 years.
And by going back in time, Steve prevented said children and grandchildren.
Which is one of the reasons, I think it's shitty writing. Steve wasn't that selfish. He would have finished the mission and come home.

As a baseball fan, I appreciate this attention to detail. Steve Rogers is from Brooklyn. The reason he remembers being at that game is because right after he wakes up, Pete Reiser (a Brooklyn Dodger) hits an inside-the-park grand slam at Ebbets Field. This is a very rare (and exciting) play and no baseball fan would ever forget being there when it happened. That game occurred on May 25th, 1941 and that ITP GS the last one to occur before we officially entered the war. Of course he would recognize that immediately.

2:50 this moment right here was when we knew from now on that he would be heartbroken over Peggy 💔
Cap be like:
So everything is colored now huh?
He didn't even need to open the door to get Technicolor.
Man there’s a couple ways to read this 😭😭😭
@@EastsideRay You turned this joke from mildly funny, to hillarious lmao

@@EastsideRay I thought that was the whole point of the joke? Like TV but also people ha ha..? Pretty sure that WAS the joke..
I can see in his mind he says “dang still no flying cars”
Edit: I don’t like people who talk about the amount of likes they have but jeez 11k is a lot
When you witness the IronMan suit and an Avengers quinjet flying around the idea of flying cars doesn't seem as special.
Someone didn't watch Agents of Shield
Lol
I’m pretty sure Phil has a flying car so....
Massive flying battleship: Am I a joke
This just makes me sad and remembering when Marvel/MCU was good. Joe Johnston knocked this one out of the stratosphere.
He saved the world, but paid the highest personal price for it. He lost his friends, his world, and the love of his life. "I had a date" is a simple but crushing expression of that.
Plot twist, the Avengers was all in Captain America’s head, then he woke up, and he was skinny.
Brandon Chen ‘he was skinny’
Brandon Chen awful
bruh
I ruined the 200 likes :)
I hate this with a passion
Fury:”we thought it would be best if we broke it to you slowly.”
Also fury:”You’ve been asleep for almost 70 years.”

Noice
For almost 70 years, ALMOST he's been asleep for 69 0_0??
Lol
I miss this MCU
At this moment, older Steve Rogers is hearing about this. Living out his life with Peggy.
Imagine if he woke up during the *coronavirus.*
If you say about that. The two billboards behind Steve has a Corona beer billboard and a bacteria virus billboard.
😂😂😂
@@quinnmackay-smith9352 but that’s just a “coincidence”
Too bad a coincidence isn’t a real thing, just a made up word.
Strange that you mentioned that. I don't know if you heard about the teen in the UK who was in a coma for 10 months. Woke up to see the world changed very differently from the one he knew before his coma. I can only imagine what that's like.
@TurboTime I hope you’re kidding.
This scene is perfectly linked with Endgame’s ending scene. We could feel how much he wanted the normal life desperately like everyone. We all know Steve Rogers really deserves to take one last chance for the date after he saved the Universe with Avengers.
And it was also meant to be. The Avengers would've failed many times without Steve Rogers. They needed him in the modern day, and when all the work was finally done, he got his second chance. He basically got to retire after Thanos was defeated.
@@chrisredfield6274 Yes, just still missing Steve Rogers and Chris Evans. Captain America is the character not fit to modern world. It is really old cold-war style. However, Marvel and Chris himself did wonderful job to make that Captain America becomes everybody’s favorite character. Wish that we still have a chance to see him in Multiverse.
Yes and it amplified when he saw Peggy working in her office, he was inches away from her but he decided to focus on his mission
Nah it was dumb, threw his character development out the window
@@datboi9539
How? His character was pretty much done after endgame and evans contract had ended too. I honestly do wish they would’ve kept him for a little longer but the infinity saga was over.
"The game. It's from May 1941. I know cause I was there."
That agent was probably the biggest butt of the joke in SHIELD for years. Out of all the baseball games they could've picked, they just so happened to pick the one Steve actually went to, subsequently blew the illusion for him, and got two agents thrown through a damn wall.
And now 12 years later, he finally had his long awaited date. We'll miss you Cap :((
Same
He finally had his date 82 years later XD
I mean... fuck her career and husband and kids or whatever I guess.
Peggy Carter was reduced to a love interest and had not one single line. Definitely passed the sexy lamp test.
Don’t make me cry 😣😭
Same..
Imagine waking up almost 70 years later and realising almost everyone you know is dead. Damn. 😳
Edit: I’m aware that Steve had no family or friends left in 1945, except for friends like Howard Stark, Colonel Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones’s character), the Howling Commandos and Peggy Carter. Even though Peggy wasn’t dead yet but he initially didn’t know that when he woke up, he immediately assumed she was also long gone. Plus he didn’t know Bucky had survived his fall either.
I’m just saying that if I was in Cap’s shoes and I woke up over half a century later after being frozen, I would also be upset to realise that most of my friends and loved ones are dead.
He didn't have anyone left except for Peggy anyway. :( His mother died and Bucky was thought to be dead.
@@soil80 I said *”just about everyone”.* That means ALMOST everyone.
@@stephenmurphy2212 that’s not his point. He’s saying that Steve wasn’t close/didn’t personally know many people in the first place, and the people he did know (such as Bucky) were thought to have died before Steve went into the coma.
@@ha5541 He knew quite a handful of people like the Howling Commandos, Colonel Chester Phillips, Howard Stark and Peggy of course.
@@ha5541 And my point was if it was me who woke up 70 years later after being frozen, I would also be saddened to realise most of my friends and loved ones are dead.
Choked me up again. Thank you.
Crazy to think that while this Cap woke up from being frozen, the same Cap that went back in time to return the infinity stones is in the sideline somewhere watching all the events we know happen.
Did nobody really check to see what game they were playing? They didn’t think to play something from like 1946 and say he’d been in a coma for a few months or something? They chose 1941?
@@FantasyDepression Nick said himself that they wanted to break it to Cap slowly. Having someone like Cap have a freak out within New York City would be extremely dangerous.
I know right? Like just any game after his crash would have done it
@@FantasyDepression I'm not saying that the theory is wrong, maybe Nick did want to seed in hints. However even S.H.I.E.L.D wouldn't know what game he has been too. Experiencing the game probably kept better in his mind then hearing it over the radio, so when the play by play game winning hit was heard, it triggered that memory of actually seeing it. kind of like a picture of an old trip.
So the theory still holds, however it was a very risky for Nick to make and it would have gone south if Steve didn't have the will power to stay calm.
@@FantasyDepression It's possible Fury didn't even know anything about that. He had so many plates spinning at this point in the series it's not inconceivable that he doesn't have the time to focus on Steve all the time. I figure that one of the SHIELD people at the little headquarters there made the mistake of picking a game Steve knew too well, and didn't think anything of it. It's not a decision Fury would've been privy to either, since he had so many other bigger things to worry about and probably trusted those people not to screw it up. But alas, not everyone is Fury, so mistakes were made.
Cap didn't wake up right away, so they probably had a lot of games play and eventually they got lazy with the dates. My question is, why have a radio at all?
They had, the entire 1940s worth of baseball to choose and they chose a game Steve was at before America joined the war? Why not just grab one from the middle of 45 and call it a day?
The problem would most likely be how many games where recorded and available?
SouthernMercenary they can record it themselves
Also, they shouldn't have used black uniforms like that. They would look too much like HYDRA troopers.
Wyatt Peterson but back then THeY ARE HYDRA....😅😅 THEY ALL WORK FOR HYDRA...UN KNOWING LY 😂
@@narakita4315 Yes, but Steve probably THOUGHT they were HYDRA (which they could have been in actuality) but they were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
