6. Truck - You're going to have to do a ton of research to find the best truck for yourself, look on auction sites, dealership websites everywhere possible and ALWAYS BRING A MECHANIC WITH YOU!!! Look for either a 24 foot box truck, or even a 26 foot box truck
7. DOT Decals - Google someone who does any type of vinyl wraps or anything of that nature and they will be able to assist you!
8. DOT Inspection - When purchasing your truck try your best to get your DOT Inspection rolled in with the purchase, if not then you can always google any DOT inspection shop in your area to get this process taken care of
9. ELD/Logbooks

11. GPS - You can either use your personal cell phone, or you can shop around at truck stops, amazon or any other source that sells GPS that fits your business.

This is best video have came across this year. Outstanding and knowledgeable. Keep it up man. I was a truck driver for over 20 years before I actually took the opportunity of applying for a business Grant which I use to start my own trucking company. These are the few tips i will tell all truck drivers and for those who are interested.
1) Protect your license. Companies will ask you to break the law. Almost force you to. Don't do it. Don't get greedy and speed to make more money. Your license is more important than kissing your companies butt or making a few extra bucks.
2) Try and stay local. You may have to work crappy jobs for a year or so, but if you still have a good driving record and you are a good worker you can move on to a really good job easily.
3) Get an hourly paying job. It's just better. I got to a point where I would never work for anything other than hourly.
4) Get a job that pays overtime. Anyone that tells you that you'll just pay more in taxes don't know how taxes work. Companies will tell employees that most of your overtime will go to taxes to trick dumb employees into working for less. Not a penny more is taxed because it's overtime
5) Always keep your ears open for a better job. Be a good/hard worker but as for loyalty, be loyal to you and your family.
6) Something I always say out loud on a daily basis... safety first. Live your life on the motto of safety first. It should be tattooed on the inside of your eyelids.
7) The number one rule I always advice is that you always keep your ear open for better opportunities. I was able to start my own company because I stayed inform with the available offers around me.
If you are also thinking of starting your own Trucking company, I will advise you look into grants.

Call the company your renting from ask if they accept umbrella insurance, if they do get the vin # from them to lock in the insurance.

I'm going to be honest bro you're going to have more options with the 18 wheelers. If you already have a CDL I would say build a fleet that way. If someone comes into this game without a CDL or no goals to get one I would suggest box trucking.
Do your research. I drove a Truck for 18 years. Things to consider.
Cost of insurance
Constantly finding a responsible driver
Always getting cited by DOT
Cost of permits going up each year
Maintenance on trucks

It’s crazy a friend of mine had me drive her box truck for her she just started the company. Needless to say I haven’t driven for a while.. them trucks are expensive to keep on the road if you don’t have a nest egg

You find loads through load boards, brokers, shippers, or hire a dispatcher to book/find loads for you.

@@PermanentHigh Yes sir I’m located out in NC and I quickly grew to 3 trucks in 2 months by the grace of god contracting with lowes delivering appliances. Income is life changing my man first month is always the hardest but anything is obtainable with the right information and god. This video is gold 💯

I think you should get everything filled out/ finalized which he explains how in this video and from there figure out who you want to contract/ run loads for and that will give you a better idea on your approach. Your approach will not be the same as mine as my approach was not the same as his. God bless you and keep believing!

Yes you could start off with renting from either of those companies, a friend of mine got all his paperwork set up and started off by renting from Enterprise. I will be doing a video discussing either buying or renting a box truck very soon!

Spent 15 years in this industry it was good to me and I’ve seen it be good to others as well… Timothy provided great information to get started and operate on the road legally… Do some research before buying a truck… look out of state if you have to… Find a great mechanic, individual or shop as well as mobile mechanic if your preferred mechanic or shop is not mobile…. Find a trailer repair shop to repair your back door or box, because cables snap often, rollers come off track or the track may need to be replaced plus they should be able to repair your lift-gate… Find a tire shop and tow truck company… price out as much as you can to be aware of all expenses… keep on top of your taxes… Most importantly take care of your truck/trucks…

Great video! Officially a subscriber now. Love how you got straight to the point. Some guys just put me to sleep bcuz they just talk too slow or repeat stuff over and over again. You inspired me to give this a try. But rn i don't have a truck. Can I start some of the process of getting my paperwork in order like obtaining the EIN#, DOT/MC#, BOC-3, UCR#, DOT decals, and the keep trucking ELD/logbooks, (and GPS)? This way when i do find a truck i won't need all that stuff. I would just need to worry about 3 things... The insurance, DOT Inspection, and a factoring company.

I've been a trucker for over 20 years. Dude on point, good video too. You can save yourself that $80 dollar DOT decal fee cause there's a way around it but I ain't tellin'. DOT officers don't like me...I know they're watching.
The only problem I have is #11 the GPS. I have always bought my own GPS's. I run 2 simultaneously, Rand McNally and Garmin. A company nor owner ever bought me a GPS and if I was running my own company, I wouldn't buy GPS and leave that to the driver. There's nothing in federal regulations say you have to buy a GPS. But hey, if you want to, it's your money. Save a driver money so she can buy more tokens to fly over the Ambassador bridge.
