I was stationed at Herzogenaurch, Germany from 1970 to 1972 it was a secret Germán airbase during WW II. There were tunnels that would go from under the barracks and come out miles away on the other side of town, they were big enough to fit a 2 1/2 truck through with no problems. They had them gated and locked so couldn't explore because so vast people got lost inside them.

That was one massive tunnel system, carved out by hand. I think those cables looked like the core lead for a radio aerial, so yes, a massive comms centre. You would never think of something that big just fro seeing the front of the bunker. The first tunnel system off the street entance, you could just walk past and never know it was there. A couple of very interesting finds. The first tunnel complex has obviously been fitted out as a local air raid shelter sometime long after the war, probably for Cold War use, but the second one, apart from some graffiti, looks virtually untouched, and maybe never used. The orange dots, and yellow markings, look to be some sort of recent survey marks, as if someone has measured, and recorded, the details of this bunker tunnel system. The incoming cables look like high voltage, so maybe this complex was meant to be a hidden command centre tucked away in the hills were nobody would notice. A lot of work went into it so it was obviously important to build it at that spot. We will probably never know why they built it, but, it's still a fascinating look back into distant times. Thank you guys for sharing these hidden tunnel systems. I always love seeing these almost forgotten slices of History. Cheers to you all!

Wooow! That was absolutely nuts! It was the exact sort of military feature I love to see - a rather unassuming entrance which opens up to what seems like endless tunnels. Not only that, but with some extremely interesting artifacts still in place.
I do wonder if such an extensive tunnel system up on the hill in the woods might have been a centralized communications facility. I'm guessing those thick cables coming down from above might be for an antenna array, as it has a distinctly coax look to it. I was also intrigued by the items scattered on the floor; I'd love to have been able to just sit there and sift through it all, as I'm sure there must be some very interesting clues in all that.

What looked like a bunker actually hid this huge tunnel system! Such an incredible find. Thank you HH and EE for bringing history alive for us ❤

Well, that was a double surprise! What a find! Yes, those huge cables coming into the first room were coaxial cables that would run to an antenna - I guess they had one above the bunker or quite close to it - I've never seen them so big before, it must have been for something quite special. Thanks EE and HH!
We think they had a very important COM location there and at a other spot close by. Thanks my friend :)

Glad you made your way out, I got lost going around all those corners in the first bunker. Couldn't make out the connectors in the second bunker. They appear to be single core, could be for high power levels that cannot be managed with multicore cables. Did look like the connector end on the wall has some sort of insulator built into it which is indicative of high voltage cabling. It is similar to antenna connectors, but the cable just seems to be too big for that application.

Couldn't believe how big they were on the inside especially the first one. Amazing how they converted it after WWII for use. Actually found it a shame that it had now been abandoned after all that work and money that had been put into it to renovate it.
This is a unique area with so much going on. I just loved to be there and find that. Thanks so much for being here with us :)
That first room in the mtn bunker with the square hole in the wall, was for a machine gunner to mow down any enemy coming in the entry you came in...the rusted steel square opening is a "gun turrett"

I wish I could go back in time and see this place in all it's glory. If this was for communication equipment then there must have been antenna towers around. Nice discovery freinds and thanks for sharing.

I was thinking the same thing. I worked with telecom while stationed in Germany and some connections and wiring haven't changed much.

My goodness what a huge complex. Did you find out why Berlin wanted this built? What was it's purpose? It just stretched on and on... I could imagine something being manufactured in this large facility or maybe it was storage in a strategic location. I am just astounded at what you found and shared with us. Well that was a surprise indeed!! Not sure which one I loved the most lol. I will say that second bunker was unusual. It could have been for communications being set on a mountain, but wow!! Just thinking the work that was done is unbelievable. The bricks was a plus as well. Very nice in finding this for us to see. Thanks for taking us. You have found there a VERY high level command and planning bunker HH & EE. I saw a generator room and fuel storage, the large room was probably the office, administration, secretaries radio operators. It all points to SOMETHING important nearby. Those cables are 'high tension' high voltage cables. Those sort of things usually went to a very tall radio antenna or a radar array above ground. 16:47 THAT is definitely a cable trench so this bunker had EXTENSIVE comms connections. Possibly even an AREA COMMAND CENTRE? If you could pinpoint on the ground above where this bunker is you might find array mountings or fixings for steel guy lines to support a radio mast. FANTASTIC! This was an amazing explore! That tunnel system was huge! I've never seen anything like that before. This was definitely a surprise. I thought it'd just be a regular bunker but wow! You’re going to find an abandoned laboratory in one of those caves, with some sort of war monster or man machine sealed inside still alive. Don’t open the door or go down any pits. If theres a length of chain leading around a corner, don’t follow it.

very Impressive and intriguing with that entrance blocked off I wonder what is behind there perhaps you go back with a portable hammer drill and find out or would that be illegal?. Imagine finding one that has never been found with gear still in there from WW2 wow what a bonus that would be lol.

You have to wonder that as the Allie’s started their bombing campaign on German targets, if the structures were built so the Germans could continue their research and development of weapons? A lot of facilities were moved underground not just storage. Somewhere in the area has to someplace or someone who knows what this was used for. It was odd to see the markings inside the bunker as if it was being surveyed. Two such huge places and interesting to see.

I think the concrete spray is to keep rocks and dirt from falling onto their poured floor. It looks like they probably kept that compound clean like a house.

I'd love to be able to get up there and see where that passage goes! You would need an extendable ladder for that and those aren't easy to carry around. What an extensive tunnel system! I can only imagine the months it took to hollow all of that out. You've got to hand it to the Germans. Extremely devoted to their missons no matter what it was. What an awesome explore! Very intriguing exploration. I was stationed at Metro Tango (15km from Hahn AB) in the late 1980’s. Made some MTB and hikes to TFC Boerfink and found other sites during my time there in the former West Germany.

Crazy stuff . There could be another level below what you are walking on based on the access holes in the floors and their depth . You might try to take a metal detector with you next time and quite possibly find some trinkets or even old coins from the era or even a stashed weapon possibly. Good-by to the evil and hate and greed and death and destruction caused by these people and let this be a monument to their failure . Thanks for share. :O)

Yea I actually think it might have been one of the places he stored mam of the valuables and collectibles and art. He's a liberal so he just wanted money and anything valuable
those pink spray-paint marks are from a surveyor ,most likely measuring the inside of the tunnel

Hitler said, "Fortify and so they did". That underground tunnel system is huge. I can't begin to imagine the time spent planning, getting the resources needed, and constructed. I could hear EE humming in the background. That bunker was one unique bunker. A very large underground Regelbau. Very unbelievable!!! So much detail. Good question, "Why did they put it there"? I am sure you will find out and tell us. It went on and on. ....... Not just a regular run of the mill Regelbau. The Germans did an amazing job. Secrets that they keep. Thank you for doing the research and taking us there. Thank you HH and EE. I will give some $$'s soon as I can. 💕

Probably it is an ancient tunnel system, as to find thousands all over the world, that they build out for their purpose. Surprising is, that it is free to get in... Most ancient systems are filled up with stones and concrete

Just out of curiosities sake, do you wear any sort of gas monitoring device when you go into deep bunkers underground, etc? I know they would have had ventilation and things of that nature, but I imagine that there could be a possibility of toxic gases accumulating in an unused area after that amount of time. I love these videos by the way!
Sometime we do and sometimes not. We do have proper air quality gear and masks if we need them. Thanks for being here :)
