Oh...this Is a nice experience, showing US this train from Nice to Paris...we were furious about that...well done...the landscape worth the trip....about 40 years ago we did the trip from Rome to Paris by train...not High Speed,13 hours...a big hug
The TGV Paris-Bordeaux is even faster than TGV Nice-Paris: Paris-Bordeaux (570 km) Tuesday 12 March 2024, departure Paris 9:04am - arrival Bordeaux 11:14am, travel time *2hr 10min* - city center to city center. If you book your seat a week in advance it can be cheap: 25 euros.😊
Very good to know!
Always fancied doing a train between Paris and the South. By the time you’ve factored in the faffing around at the airport at either end there’s not much difference. Plus as you said, you see so much more from the train ! Hope you enjoyed Paris!
It’s a lovely journey and I’d add an hour just to avoid doing airport security
It's well worth the cost for comfortable seating and no DVTs! Definitely a winner.
The seat was VERY comfortable
Thank you for posting this vlog. I love taking trains in Europe, and this trip looks so pretty. I am not a fan of CDG airport, so any chance to avoid it is a good thing!
Indeed we had a day at CDG in Pret A Manger waiting for a connection….
I love train journeys aswell. Much more relaxing than flying , much less bother than a hover as the advert said
What happened to hovers?!
@@MeandMonAmi voice search it should have been an advert for hovercraft but was for qualcast mowers taking about Flymo :)
Thank you for doing this one, it is something I’d wondered about vs flights so was much appreciated!
for sure and some flights take you everywhere before you get to your destination 12 hours later.
Yes Trains dont tend to land in Marseille instead of Nice
Hi lads from Spain. I started my career on BR as a guard and my trains ALWAYS left on time, the only difficulty was keeping them on time when prospective passengers were still running towards the station and not there ready to board.
True and signals. Signals always seem to cause bother
@alejandrayalanbowman367 Reply 4 mo later. Had to comment, as one of those risk-taking passengers you described. Huffing and puffing on the walk to the station, knowing that the Ped Crossing at a busy artery road could lose you 3-4 mins. Then craning head down the track, looking for the telltale front train lights, all the while running with bags bumping. Or slowed to a trot if no train in sight. Sometimes arriving dishevelled and panting on the platform to read 'Train running 7 mins late'. Yes, I can imagine that being a strictly on-time Guard, but watching all that human drama playing out in front of you each day, could have been very difficult indeed 😊
Great train ride!! The comfort, the extensive buffet ( compared to you know where!) and the coastal views as well as up through central France. If you factor in 1st class seats with lots of leg room and arriving in central Paris, it’s a no brainier for me.
Do they have hop on, hop off ticket? Would love to take a week to do that journey. 💙❤️
Not sure about the hop on/off they certainly have that on the riviera
The Cote d'Azur is really stunning.
Last October I took my family from Pitlochry in the Highlands to Disneyland Paris by train. It took 2 days (stopping at a hotel in London overnight) but it was brilliant. Eurostar was great but I really enjoyed the TGV (First Class like yourselves) from Lille to Paris. Absolutely superb. What a shame Motorails don't run any more. If they did you could have taken Elton!
I know we’d love to do the moto rail! The first class seats are very comfortable and standard looked pretty decent also
That must've been fun!
After you have gone 185m/h all electric Elton will have to work a bit harder 😂😂
Thank you for taking us along, from the outside the higher price compared to flight was well worth it. Great views and even a nice buffet with prices much better than on any train in Germany!
Yup I think standard looked pretty good to me also but a bit more jammed in and I knew I had to edit so I wanted to be sure I could
Fascinating. Brought back many happy TGV memories. Thanks so much! 🤗
Thanks Avid
I took Ouigo (low-cost HS train) from Paris to Nice last summer, it left on time and made it to Nice 4min early. My cousin bought my Ouigo Plus ticket 3 wks in advance for €44. We made sure to bring beverages and snacks with us because Ouigo doesn't offer food in France (it does in Spain!!!). Otherwise it was comfortable, fast and I was able to catch up with the Mandalorian episodes that I had downloaded on my tablet. Excellent and cheap.
Good deal!
Really enjoyed watching your journey. We love train journeys, especially across Europe. You should try the night train from Paris to Nice (or other direction). Not luxury but good value for money.
Thanks for the tip!
nicely made film Tim. as old folk in France we share one over 60 rail card. well worth it if you use the train a few times each year. cheapest we got to paris was €40 one way.
Thanks. I ain’t there yet…
I love travelling by train. Enjoy your trip!
Me too
I've done a similar journey from London to Koln via Eurostar. Total time is 6.5 hours, about 2 less than flying. You're right to factor in airport time and transfers as they tend to be the worst!
Yup the train is so much less stressful at the boarding/leaving stage
Loved the train video, have a thought for the cyclists who started a 7 stage journey from Paris to Nice in the annual pro race, you better avoid Nice next Sunday boys.
I know and they do it every year! Thank goodness they didn’t arrive this weekend. Unbelievably bad weather here with rockfalls etc
A different and super interesting episode, of course by train one can appreciate the views much more, however, I think in terms of price vs the time it takes, the plane continues to be a more valid option, the train is good for those who are not in such a hurry to reach the destination and prefer to enjoy the scenery.
I hope you have a wonderful stay in Paris; there are certainly many interesting things to see in the City of Light.
Thanks. Paris this Sunday.
Now that was fun. I was as excited as you as the build up to departure time got close!
Was Twiggy on her own little vacation?
She was with her Aunty Nicola!
For the flight you have to get to the airport, have to be there way before for security, do not arrive in Paris but have to get there, you have luggage constrains, no animals. I wager the time is about the same. Also first class is a lot more then the wooden class you get on Ryan air. What about the bar/restaurant on the train? The electric and internet access? Nah, train every time. Even if it´s 30min more.
Very very nice video, as always. Also, internal flight under 2h (really 4h with everything you have to do) will be illegal soon if a train is available.
You got seats on Ryanair? We had to stand all the way!
I agree. The Nice Paris flight escapes that rule (I think).
The low spark of high heeled boys 😊 - thanks for another educational video!
Had to look that up!
I took the TGV OuiGo from Paris to Nice, one-way, last August. It was only 25E to start, but I bought up the package that included wifi, seat choice, and extra luggage for 9E more. The OuiGo is only 2nd class but the upper floor has nice single row seats, F2F for a couple (or single file for solo travel), that are not bad at all. All in all, less than EasyJet.
Very good deal
Love your video's they are the highlight of my TV viewing on Sunday nights, I some times fall down on liking them because its harder on the telly to like etc than on the laptop. I used to work for British Rail and had a "Free Travel" pass. Furthest i got was Berlin a few days after the reunification of Germany! Holland and Belgium always seemed the favourite destination? Those French trains are nice I have been on a double decker train in France.
Thanks. We even have double deckers on our local lines down here
Today is another very special episode, by train to Paris. Ultimately, this is also electric transport! I wish you both a lot of fun in Paris, always nice to be there!
Indeed and quiet!
We take the TGV from Nice to Paris every year. It's much more enjoyable than flying. We make a baguette, pack some crisps and a bottle of Rose', sit back and take in the views in quiet comfort!
Perfect we did the same minus the rose
Normally in France, the TGV will be the best option. For Paris - Nice, a lot of the journey is along the Cote d’Azure on the picturesque but quite slow 19th century line. Hence, many will favour the plane until the high speed line is in place down there.
Wonderful video. Mundane topic yet strangely captivating with your quirky style. Love the editing work.
Thank you kindly!
Merci pour votre visite 😊
Thanks for your visit'😊
Welcome in France ❤
Wow! You must have spent a tonne of time in advance taping all those drone scenes of the train speeding along and city sights along the way. Unless you used some purchased stock footage, of course. You viewers do appreciate your high production values. And that woman quickly taking off her shoe in the airport (14:48).
Mr Boo on the roof of the train with the drone!
Poor Mr. Boo!
Hello chaps..watched your video on Paris yesterday , the algorhythm must have found me as I'm always watching Paris ones ! Anyway I do this trip often as I live down here and family up there but I've always loved a train journey . I've had a few adventures due to 'climatic conditions' but the comfort of a TGV although more expensive wins for me and it's city centre to city centre. So merci and will catch up with your earlier videos and the sun is back !!!!
Welcome onboard Susan. There’s a few to be getting on with!
You never know, if Mr Boo maintains a super attentive surveillance out of the train windows, you might see the Paris-Nice tour par bicyclette going in the opposite direction.. due to arrive in Nice later in the week.. watching it at the moment on the net.
I hope the weather improves for them it’s been dire this week. Avalanches ice storms and rockfalls
Great video, I’ve always thought about taking the train from Nice to Paris - do you know if they allow dogs on? A lot more scenic than on a plane, although more expensive. Can’t wait to see more of your Paris adventures ❤
Yup they take dogs but you have to pay if certain size.
@@MeandMonAmi good to know 👍🏻 thanks - have a lovely time in Paris
Enjoyed the video
Thanks
13:49 Toilet time like a real train vlogger! Making up time on a direct train from Marseille to Paris is almost impossible since they are going at max speed of 300km/h, the maximun allowed speed on this line., all the way! Another limiting factor is that the time slots on the the high speed line are so tight they would catch up with another TGV anyway.
Interesting! I think we did make up a bit of time and then lost it going slowly into Gare de Lyon but I may be wrong. Signals were the issue!
@@MeandMonAmi The last bit from the outskirts of Paris into Gare de Lyon always ”takes forever” 😀
Fun video, thanks! It is the journey back that seems to go wrong for me ... hope that isn't the case for you two! Looking forward to seeing what you decide to see in Paris! Enjoy!
watch this space!
Excellent Thanks!!
Great video loved it ❤
Thanks
A fabulous vlog and must say that knocks our UK trains into the shade somewhat. A good buffet car menu too 👍
I feared the TGV would be showing its age but not a bit..
Remember Bill Bryson wrote. " I can remember when you couldn't buy a British rail sandwich without wondering if this was your last act before a long period on a Life-support machine. " Good job he didn't go on celebrity Bakeoff with Pru!
Brunch Muffins!
Only taken the TGV from Lyon to Paris many years ago but vastly preferred to flying. Outshines anything in the UK and way cheaper.
It’s an impressive beast for4 sure
Always prefer the train over the plane for internal journeys. And you get t see so much more. And if there's a screaming baby in the seat behind you can always get up and move to the other end of the train! Great video as always. Thanks guys. ❤❤
Mercifully it only screamed on arrival!
Great job
Great video. Wanted to mention that you didn’t consider the cost of carry on and checked baggage on Easy Jet and the cost of going to and from the airports. Thanks!
Thanks
Thank you for another video 😊. Do you know how bad the regular not first class seats are? It would be easier to get to Nice on train from where I am, but not for 200 euro.
They look absolutely fine to me. Certainly not bad at all
Better than a first class on ScotRail for sure.
the moto for UK public transport is: please mind the gap between the time table and our arrival!! it is so appaulling they have even taken down the time table in most instances especially for buses, and my parents live less than 3 miles from their town, and only buses they will ever see is those that are not in service, because it was decided that 95% of their village had at least 1 car, so therefore they do not need a bus service as well regardless of those who actually need public transport like those that have had to return their driving licence on medical grounds, I would hate to see what a taxi charges now with the inflation on everything, then you would have to think of times 2 directions, I think the train tickets were a steal at 200 euros thinking of taxi prices each day for the essential shopping trip a few times a week, like our local shops don't sell milk to last more than 2-3 days before the best before date, and then say the fridge is on the blink then lucky for milk to last 2 days.
I’m old fashioned and I think public transport is a right everyone should have. We are lucky here with an excellent and inexpensive bus service (though not so hot on night buses)
better by train than plane!? ..its not the uk rail network so im up for it #ecotravel
indeed!
When entering the train, please walk as far as possible in the direction of Le Mans! Then people from Marseille fit-in too! 😂😂
Nice video, I much prefer the train to air travel. The TGV looks great. I've used high speed rail in Europe but not TGV. Unfortunately the last train in Cyprus ran on 31st December 1951. There are rumours that EU funding is available for a new railway system, I hope it's built before I kick the bucket 🙂 Having said that we have a good intercity bus service which is only €8 for a day ticket.
Wowzer I’d no idea you didn’t have a railway!
Mister Me & Mister Boo! Let the train 🚆 take the strain as the ada say & looking at those seats the train is a definitely yes instead of flying!, very enlightening vlog Tim ! Stay safe and well and obviously stay charged 🎉
Those seats are incredibly comfortable.
❤.....I much prefer train travel to flying as I tend to faint and suffer with nausea on planes.
Price can be prohibitive for trains sometimes though so i treat air travel as a necessary evil...I will also bus it everywhere on holiday or simply trek too !
Another great vlog that had us giggling in parts,Thank you 😀
Yup we often fly places because of price but we haven’t gone on holiday this year so we splurged
The thing to remember with the French TGV system is that whilst the same train completes the point to point, it may not run at its rated full speed on some pieces of track in between because the track/signalling has not been upgraded to TGV full capability .. I think this is the case with some of the TGV lines running from Paris to the West, viz TGV full speed only a available on the Paris-Brest connection up to Rennes, beyond that its completed at TER speeds.
You it was flawless on bthe full TGV lines
We always print our tickets at home, since the scanners at Nice-ville Gare are so fickle with phones. I noticed one person in the station was not happy about you filming him. 😅
Indeed who was that?
@@MeandMonAmi The guy sitting down by the eye glass machine. Look at his hand.
How long is the journey in Elton ?😂
Now that’s a calculation!
I went to paris to see final stage of Tour de France in 2013 . Caught a stomach bug on first day and had to watch the race in the hotel room. I was there for 5 days so did some sightseeing on the last day when feeling a bit better . Even though The train is more expensive it is more relaxing. And easier to have a sleep . Great video as always.
It is cheaper then air travel if you do book normal seats. First class is not regular.
The standard price was still €40 more than the flight
@@MeandMonAmiIncluding transfer to the airport and transfer from the airport to Paris? What about a dog or luggage? No, even if it is 40Euros more, train every time.
I agree
It would be awesome if you guys could give us an update on Notre Dame while you are in Paris 😀
The scaffolding is largely off but it won’t be open in time for olympics
@@MeandMonAmi thanks 😀
But how does that compare to doing the same journey in your Citroen Ami?
The Ami would be perfect in Paris, because it's small.
I think very similar times!;
Impressive but nothing like the trains here in northern ireland think they are still using Stevensons rocket but another great video
I think I saw the rocket In York and the mallard!
Train looks much more enjoyable than flying, even if it does take longer. Looking forward to some Parisian content next week
It’s coming
next video - same trip in the amie?
A short series over 4 weeks!;
‘Paul’ almost as good as Coults in Batley 😂
Well, nearly ….!
Used to love Coults is it still going?
Oh yes! 😊
More expensive and the journey is longer but you get to see the France you don’t see from the air! If you want to tour Europe, you can buy a Eurorailpass and get unlimited rail travel anywhere in the Schengen zone! Hope you guys enjoy Paris! 😊
I always wanted to get the Euro pass when I was 16 and didn’t have the courage. Maybe time!
Lucky barstewards, ... on the derelict lugger prison ship HMS UK, reported Norovirus infection levels are now double the UK 5 - year average at about 400 a day.. applying the Lloyd George correction factor of x 3 - 10 (Derived from estimates of number of guns needed at the front to win WW1) you can reckon its more like 1200-4000 a day. Your's truly laid low, again, for the nth time in the last 6 months. Hoever, UK HMG is assuring us that once the resident population have mastered eating sand, cement and pea shingle, they'll be huge cost advantages accruing to the UK pebble-dashing industry.
Get well soon!
Btw: I sent your video to a friend who visits family in France, and he just replied: "They should have mentioned Senior discounts for old-timers

Thanks Jack. Yes sadly (or not) I aint quite old enough for this pass which is probably why we overlooked it but it’s great info for those who are!
Someday, mainland UK might have a top-to-toe HST
I saw a sticker in the double glazing on this which said 2005 and I checked a few other windows and they had the same so presumably this was the age of this rolling stock. It felt so modern to me..
The damage flying QueasyJet I takes on the soul is incalculable. For me, it’s TGV all the way.
I increasingly agree. I used to love flying but not any more
The price comparison isn't really fair. I just looked up the prices for two weeks out and you pay at least 150€ for a return ticket and this is with only a small bag. With your carry-on or checked baggage, you pay 50€ per flight extra. So already 250€ per person.
Flights can be much cheaper depending on when you book but I prefer the train
In my city all trains leave on time (Amsterdam)
Do they arrive on time?
I loved it. It is so long since I was on a French Train and I spent most of the time looking out the window. The only Train I would say is better is the Hogwarts Express. 🧸🧸🚙
There is something so very special about trains, even the modern ones. Can you imagine how much fun it would be, though lengthy, if you were in the age of steam. I bet the first class in those days would have been paradise. Will there be a return home video, or maybe a quick look into gay-Paris?
The old Train bleue from London to South Of France must have been an incredible journey
Enjoy Paris! And I was hoping for a glimpse of the monstrosity they buit next door to Nice Ville Station. Must be just about finished by now. If it's half as ugly as in the visualisation they had on the fence, it's really bad.
It’s still not finished! We will cover it
What are you men going to do in Paris? Great vlog. Have a great time! 😃
Coming Sunday!
320 km/h 😍
Great video guys, but why didn’t you go by Joe Le Taxi?. Until next time, Stay charged Byyyyeeee
Thanks. I think at other times of year may be cheaper as well (school hols)
Wow, Paris by train from my home is faster than from Nice! :)

Whats happening in Paris guys? We need a tour of Pigalle and all of its sights etc. I have not been there in about 10 years.
Coming this week. Pigalle is very changed
The sink in the loo looked manky!
It did in retrospect. Luckily my glasses didn’t pick it up when filming !
But how long would it have taken in the Ami?
A mere matter of…
Why isn't the eye testing machine called *Cornice des Yeux"
I shall consult Mr Boo!
Thanks guys! I was just looking into air-vs TGV times and costs from Nice to Paris and was going to drop you a message about the JEC world event in Paris opening March 5th, and suggest if you happen to be in Paris it might be worth a look as its the world event for things like renewable energy, 3D printing and EV technologies and more. Aptera, apparently will be building bodies for their "affordable" 3-wheel solar-electric sports car in Italy and will be exhibiting there. czcams.com/video/q0xsEkP-rQg/video.html
What you relate Tim at 7:20 is exactly what makes high-speed rail the better choice, and it was great to catch a glimpse of 1st class on the TGV and reflect back on Japan's Shinkansen. In green car (1st class) even after 6 hours you always wished it was longer, where after 30min on a domestic 747 from Tokyo to Osaka you wished you would have hitchhiked.
Btw, If you do a follow-on, perhaps Mr. Boo could cover a bit on rail passes like France rail pass, Eurail and Forfait, and if they make sense for those visiting or residing and taking holiday in France and Italy?
Thanks Jack. We were only talking about the various cards this morning. Great Idea. The Aptera is very interesting too even if it does look a bit like a flying car!
@@MeandMonAmi Cool, very much Looking forward to the next installments from Paris. Aptera was modeled after a Cirrus carbon fiber aircraft, a couple of flying buddies love it and want one. I saw the original prototypes years ago and was intrigued for $20k but now it's not something I'd shell out $35,000 for.
BTW, did you notice the Carice, super light Dutch sports car? I like concept, a bit like a cross between an old Porsche and Sunbeam.

@@MeandMonAmi Wow! I just watched some video of the Swiss-Italian made Thermal-formed Aptera Body now on display in Paris, and It's not hard to imagine that the days of stamping, cutting, bolting and welding hundreds of chunks of leaky-creaky metal metal together coming to a close. Simply injection mold and glue together body parts like a model car.
I'm guessing the AMI and future quadacycles would be much easier to make this way than by welding all that steel frame together and screwing plastic panels to it.

I may have to take it all back about rip-off Brtiain.... Rail Europe is quoting single, Paris to Nice (426 miles), departing 06:34 tomorrow, £155, and London to Edinburgh (403 miles), departing 06:00, £68.90.
Oddly, after 09:00 French prices go DOWN, £130, whilst British prices go UP, £190.... Euh ?
Dynamic Pricing. Our TGV was rammed and I suspect they often are
Wonder how long it would take in Elton? 😄
Indeed!
If you compare flying with easyjet you should also mention the regular train ticket price. Comparing first class to easyjet is a bit unfair imo
I did it’s in the video
@@MeandMonAmithose were the first class tickets, right?
@tteric67 Watching this video 4 mo later. The regular TGV ticket fare was flashed on screen when we watched the queues for the ticket machines. €120 Return Nice-Paris vs €200 First Class vs €80 Easy Jet fares checked on the same day. Not sure if €80 is a Return Airfare also?
Much better by train (in France)Get cab to station go in station go down to platform get on train relaxed{No no taking everything out your pockets no trying to hold your trousers up no standing in queues while being told to hurry up no being told your plane is now leaving from a different gate on the other side of the terminal no fights from drunken brits and all the other joys of flying now days
