  • My 04 Polaris Ranger 6x6 was stuck in gear. It stuck in neutral actually but still wouldn't go into any gear. This is what I found.

    Lol. My old English teacher told me the word unthawed doesn't exist. It's either frozen and the opposite is thawed. Lol! Regardless it is a very helpful and informative video. Thanks!

      If you look it up they say it's a word. I can't say I got an A+ in english but I feel I can communicate pretty well. My spelling was horrible but has actually gotten better with all the comments and stuff I respond to. I see more words and that has really helped my spelling.

    Glad it was an easy fix! It's a wonder they didn't do internal damage beating on that linkage.

      Or break the plastic cover. Someone beat on that lever hard.

    Thank you , I have a shifting problem and I hope you solved it. Funny thing, I was looking at that plastic over this morning. Tomorrow I'm going in. I hope it has a broken spring, it's Sept. here in Mn. , shouldn't be any Ice yet.Thanks again, great video, well done.

      I would guess your problem is the spring unless you were hearing bad noises from the trans. Really easy to check the spring. I know it's not cold enough to freeze but you still might have water inside. That probably caused the spring to rust and fail. Good luck.

    Good video. Thanks. Before the end of your video, I was ready to suggest using some contact cleaner spray. I've used it with good success in the past. But, it looks like the problem worked itself out. Thanks again.

      If it's hard to shift while running and then easy to shift when the engine is off it's probably your clutch.

    Had the same issue including the failure of the high range light. Not spending $100 for a switch on a 17 year old machine - just check the lever position for high gear

    our Polaris will not shift unless we turn it off. we can change gears easy when its not running. but we have to turn it completely off to do a gear shift. Any ideas on what is wrong?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety +1

      Idle is to high or your clutch is shot.

    • @tyhodges8455

      @@mossman381 Thanks we will try to idle down AGAIN tomorrow. hope its not the clutch. that will be another question for you! we have been watching your videos for the last 2 hrs. YOU ARE GOOD! thank you!!!

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      This problem with shifting was water related. It was stuck in gear and wouldn't move at all. The idle is set on the carb. You turn the little knob. You don't want the idle so low it kills the engine all the time. I had a Ranger with a bad clutch and I had to shut it off to shift it. That was before CZcams so I don't have a video on a clutch replacement.

    Riding my 2000 xpedition a couple days ago and something up front locked up and it stalled, I thought the engine blew up but once I got it in neutral it fired back up, put it in 4wd and made it home. It’s been too cold for me to even look at it, I’ll try this weekend to see what it is.

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      That doesn't sound good. I would see what the fluid looks like.

      mossman381 yeah as soon as this damn cold brakes, I’m crossing my fingers it’s something in the front end, it’s been taking spells where it pulls hard left or right, I have to put it in reverse for a foot or two and it’s fine, it’s an old beater, just haven’t had a chance to dig into it. Thanks mossman.

    Our 2019 ranger north start shifter feels loose when it’s in park. And when we want to put it into high gear it feels like you have put it in pretty hard?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 5 lety

      I haven't run the new 1000 Rangers so I don't know how they feel. I have run quite a few of the 900 Rangers and all of them seem to shift pretty stiff like. As for the loose feeling in park I would probably go back to your dealer. Maybe try out some other new Rangers they have to see if they feel the same.

    Seems like im having all the same problems with my ranger as u have had with yours. Is the gear ahift cable the same as the 4x4 selector cable

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 3 lety

      These problems are very common on these older Rangers. Gear shift cable should be the same 4x4 or 6x6. The trans is in the same spot on both.

    • @guerom1367
      @guerom1367 Před 3 lety

      @@mossman381 is the cable for the shifter that makes it 4wd or 2wd the same? Seems like these rangers r real problematic. Also i thought i changed all the fluids out when i got it. I changed the motor oil, rear differential, and transmission. I think i missed the front differential tho. Is this correct?

    • @mossman381
      @mossman381  Před 3 lety

      4wd is selected with a switch not a cable. If you have a 4x4 model the lever on the dash is for the rear diff lock. 6x6 models don't have a selectable diff lock. They are locked all the time. The front diff should have the fluid changed as well. Might be more important for the front diff because there is very little fluid in there.
