    Good video. Nice diagnostic.I take it ur machine must be older than 5 years? I was wondering why u wouldn't just send it back under warranty?

    • @iainportalupi
      @iainportalupi  Před 6 lety +1

      legalsolutions07 it's only 1 year old but if I sent it back for warranty work I'd have to pay for shipping plus mailing it off would have made for a boring video.

    • @legalsolutions07
      @legalsolutions07 Před 6 lety +1

      Good point. Have u ever experienced the readout flickering for about 5 seconds when turning on the unit and turning off the unit (no cables were connected)? Any thoughts if this is normal?

    • @iainportalupi
      @iainportalupi  Před 6 lety

      legalsolutions07 mine does flicker when I shut it off. It's the input capacitors slowly discharging and the control circuit goes into some sort of weird brown out condition as the voltage drops off. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, it's just weird and gives it a cheap feel. I've never seen it at the beginning other than the display flickering once when the auto voltage change over circuit kicks in on 120v. I have an MT-125 tig welder which is a heavily modified Everlast power tig 185 and it doesn't do that on shut down, but it is in a different price bracket where weird things like flickering displays aren't acceptable. I'm going to be using the MT-125 today so I'll study it closer when I turn it off.

    • @legalsolutions07
      @legalsolutions07 Před 6 lety +1

      Thank you for your info.

    • @iainportalupi
      @iainportalupi  Před 6 lety

      legalsolutions07 You're welcome, also I used the MT-125 yesterday and today and it doesn't flicker at all on shut down. The display just goes off and stays off so the flicker must be peculiar to Everlast's lower priced welders.

    Well done dude, very impressive fix...that makes me wonder..can you help me with a MERSUD 2020 TIG HF AC/DC, am from Chile south america and the issue is that I do not `ve HF to start the machine, right after use the MMA to do the welding in cast iron i went back to HFAC to do the welding in aluminum TIG and there is where it didn`t `ve any current, i checked the HF terminals and used sand paper to polish it just in case something maybe wrong, I did check up continuity in the starter button attached to the tig torch; it works, it doesn`t light up the error light neither and bottom line is that I do not`ve current, not a tiny little spark in the HF, gas solenoid; it works and everything including the fan works except for this almost imperceptible detail; it does not weld!... any advice?

    • @iainportalupi
      @iainportalupi  Před 6 lety

      MARIO PROVIDEL thanks for watching, I’ve never dealt with a Mersud welder before but I have done this the following test before to see if the HF part is the only fault. Set the welder to HFAC and get everything set up for welding a scrap piece of aluminum. Then step on the foot pedal and once the argon starts flowing touch the tungsten to the aluminum briefly and if the arc starts when you pull the tungsten away the problem is definitely in the HF start somewhere if the arc doesn’t start with this test the welder isn’t going into tig mode at all. One word of warning this scratch start method will contaminate the tungsten so if you have an old/contaminated tungsten I’d try it with that. I had issues with my AHP welder not starting on aluminum when it was new because the points were out of adjustment from the factory. It would start 9 out of 10 tries but after I set the gap it starts every time. Let me know how the test goes and I’ll see what I can find out about Mersud 2020 welders.

    I have the same little welder. When i started it up it went to 000. Turned on off several times and slowly showed amps but not the full amount. Only 60 on 110 and 220v. Although it should amps it was all over the place from welding cold to really hot. I pulled it apart and tested the voltage regulator as you did and it is reading only 10amps in place. What should it be reading with a proper new one in place? Thanks

    • @iainportalupi
      @iainportalupi  Před 6 lety

      Maxtv doo The first thing I would check is that the potentiometer on the front panel is working. You can check that with a multimeter set to the resistance setting.

    Hi Lain
    I bought a Arcsonic MMA200I. This machine is for 220V+-15%. When I take it to work and plug it into 208V it welds like a champ. When I take it home and plug it in, it will weld a short bead then the fault light comes on and it will nolonger weld. My household voltage is 244 volts. Is there some jumpers inside or a varipot that can be adjusted to make it tolerate my 244 voltage. It' s suposed to be able to handle 220 +-15% so it should be able to handle up to 253 volts. Can you help me with this welder?
    Thanks
    Jim

    Hey I am pretty new to circuit boards but recently my welder, a everlast 160st went stopped working. I was. Told by someone who had the same, it is a fuse that needs to be replaced. They said it’s been to long for them to remember where that fuse was located at tho. Can you help me out in locating it? The inside of my machine is perfectly identical to yours.

    • @iainportalupi

    Hi Lian.. liked your video. I have a DC inverter ARC 250 where the symptoms are almost the same - the OC light glows and the display working but no output. After checking could find all the final diodes (within the output board) beeping where the mosfets seems okay as no beep. It is 4 pairs mosfets and diodes on both side with the controller driven circuit inputs 24volts DC. Any suggestions?

    I have a everlast powermaster 205 welder. It was never used and when the plasma torch was connected the welder whined and smoke came out. Bad sign! We sent it to Everlast a welder that tig and stick worked. Plasma was dead. When i came back the HF was dead. When it was powered with a outside source it worked fine. We put on an interval timer and it works fine. Does anyone have an idea how the HF activation circuit on the welder works. Too many ICs and no wiring diagram. Everlast warranty is an illusion. They gave us our labor charges back and we ended up with a welder with smashed plastic bezel and broken fan and DOA. They told us they would not fix it and they voided on the two everlast welders we just bought for no legal reason. They told me they would not sell me parts or service ever. When I complained to Alex ( Sale Manager) he emailed me back and said no more emails.
    I think it is Miller or Lincoln Time.
