Being a harp player for over 40 years I love to hear the latest and greatest mics, I found the bullet is my one and only till now.
I am an one hand musician, and on the harmonica, I use a Shaker Mad Cat to plug into my small 10 watts amp.
I don't play ampifyed very often, but love the sound of my Peavy backstage plus with my fender p51 mic,
very cool - love that sound!!!!
This was a HUGE help thank you
very good..I subbed... love to play harp
Nice demo!!
Hey Will, just want to say thanks for your great tutorial! I like your vids and rig rundown on your mics was a good idea... Keep on blowin'!
Great survey of Shaker's excellent mics. Thanks for the comparo. I've used a dynamic Shaker for years and loved it (really durable, great feedback resistance, very adaptable), but I think I need to branch out into the rest of the range and you've helped me figure out which direction to go in. Thanks!
Thank you, Will Wilde.
This was a very well done tutorial/comparison of mics, and exactly the type of information I was looking for. I noticed this was first posted 2 years ago...it astounds me that I just discovered you now (I have been compiling my favorite blues harmonica artists from CZcams for sometime). When I have time - likely this weekend, I am going to look at your other videos, and will definitely check out your CD. By the way, being that I am born and raised in Chicago, it always gives me a thrill when a blues artist refers to 'Chicago blues'. Blues and pizza - makes me proud of my city!
The last sample riff you play in the mad dog is super tasty
I brought the shaker " MAD DOG " and was extremely satisfied. Lightweight and feedback resistant too....
Très bon article
Hi Will, great playing.
I was wondering about the Retro Rocket. I have one, and like it but when I play it back to back with my Shure 57, I find the Rocket to not be as responsive to a lighter attack than the 57. Also the sound seems a little more muffled.
Do you get the same impression?
Btw, you play beautifully!👍😎
Hi Will. I want to say I really enjoy your style of playing. I've been watching a few of your videos, I'm just starting out on the harmonica, I've been working on the scales that you show, really helpful. There is a section on this video around 5:45 where you start off with a scale then you go into a real cool harmonica rhythm do you have a video on how to play that. Thanks Mike,I would like to buy you CD where would I buy that at.
Thanks Michael, glad you found the videos helpful. I will keep that in mind for a video, it is basically just the riff from Runnin' Shoes. You can buy my CD here: www.willharmonicawilde.com/shop
You can learn how to play it here: czcams.com/video/RIqnuO-7nY8/video.html
Now if I can master the 12 bar blues!
Thanks. Is the mic plugged directly into an amp or are you using an effects pedal of some kind? BTW great sounds and your playing is fantastic. Man, I hope to get half that good.
Direct here, no effects.
I guess my next question would be do you ever use guitar pedals and which ones ?
I think the MadCat had the best sound. The MadDog would be my second choice. Louder version of the MadCat.
Nice!
I saw that I could order the shaker with the crystal element on eBay. I don't think those are available any more from the company. Which one do you recommend? I think in your video you said that one of the mics that you had had the crystal element. Thanks.
Hi Frank, yes I don't think Shaker make the crystal one any more. It's a shame because the Retro Rocket with the crystal element was my favorite Shaker mic, I used it on all of my "Raw Blues" album.
You've got it dialed brah.
Haha, switched back to orthodox grip on the MadDog ;) U Rock!!!
Will, do you use an impedance matching transformer between the shaker mics and amp?
Larry Milco no they are all high impedance already
How do these compared to the green bullet for feedback?? Which one has the lowest feedback? Thx
In my experience these are much more feedback resistant. The modern green bullets (Share 520DX) are terrible for feeding back.
hi will what is the best crystal harmonica are The Dynamic.
The Retro Rocket with Crystal element is my favorite.
Are there "Wireless one handed harmonica MICROPHONES...on the market ?
I would like to know that too!
what amp do you use for gigging great mics for recording but when gigging its all about the amp real distortion sound can use filthy distortion recording but gigging different story even using A95U converter into desk
Fender Super Reverb
Will Wilde what year is your amp.
did you put diff tubes in
Deneice Zeve also, is the new shaker retro rocket dynamic that just came out the same as you demo-ed? or was yours crystal?
Hi Deneice. It's a standard Fender Super Reverb Reissue, no modifications. My Shaker is the older one with the crystal element.
thanks great demo. question: which one is best if i just want to play through a house PA? I what to overdrive going into the PA...I do NOT want to lug around another amp........becuase I'm already luggiing around a piano!
Retro rocket
I just ordered the xlr shaker
Overdriving the input on a mixing console is not going to yield the same tone or distortion characteristics as overdriving a tube amp that is then mic'ed. There might be some sort of compact option like a guitar effect pedal that might get your closer without having to lug an amp around.
I use a madcat mic into a pa going through a boss blues driver pedal and it works pretty great. The pedal sounds pretty terrible for guitar in my opinion but I think it does a good job mimicking an amp for a harp. Definitely easier than lugging an amp around. When I fly to gigs that’s generally my setup and I’ve always been very pleased.
hey, why is the retro rocket your preferred mic?
Just sounds the best out of these mics
@@willharmonicawilde thank you, I wish it were the mad dog that came up first, I like hand cuping techniques. Thank you
@@Mundproductionfunkhaus you can get just as much cupping effects with the retro rocket, it's really small- less than half the size of a green bullet.
@@willharmonicawilde kool, it also looks simpler than the other models with the level controller; a little clumsy for me. I have a Bulletini but find it too big...
Hey will could you send me that first mic? I’ll give you my address ;) lol jk. I came back here to listen a year later because Iv been looking for mics but the more I look the more I lean towards bullets. I’m subscribed on my other channel but this is the channel I post with. Thanks man. Been digging your duet jams with others!
Thanks man, glad you like the colabs! The retro rocket is my favorite of the Shaker mics.
So. Conflicted lol been talking to Dennis about getting one of his mics but we’ll see. Thanks for responding bud
The harmonica is about ready to go for a renaissance of some sort if makers will be brave enough to produce harps that are designed to forge past sounds steeped in 100 years of the past.
