    This is one of the most heart aching break ups I have ever experienced and I am still struggling to get over. Kim Taeri and Nam Joohyuk performances are crazy and shows how new love built on unconditional faith is difficult to maintain without communication. Their love began on the promise of happiness so it’s understandable that once it starts to get broken repeatedly, love has reached its limit. I’m glad it was at least on good terms. It’s exactly what Jaurim’s 2521 reality is, capturing the moment where pure love burnt bright but short. The bittersweet memories help you mature and its innocence is something you can recall when times are tough. I just hoped that they at least tried and failed at this first hurdle after supporting, depending on and not wanting to lose each other. Surely if it hurts this much, it’s worth fighting to work it out 😭

      It’ll be worth the sacrifice when you truly respect and love the person whatever shortcomings they might have in the past. I could have understood better if the both broke up now to face their career while they still maintained their friendship once in awhile and be like you know what let's just be friends again till later on in our lives and if after am about to retire, you still available, then we are more matured to make it work back. After all they made it look like she also has a busy schedule right in now in her life and won't have time for relationship that much. They made their characters put in so much work that breaking everything up within few hiccups didn't make any sense to me at all. Her mum can bring Yijin back from new york after some few years like she did after the seven years which won't even be up to sevens year if he was still with her. they could re unite back. Went from stage denial to directly stage depression. It ending in just 2 episodes felt like a slap to my face. Yes i get the message they were trying to potray and seeing the ending, i wish they would have stayed friends. What confuse me is how easily their relationship broke. They were so much stronger than this and had gone through alot. If only they gave it a try one more time. In the end, he chose his career and she chose not to live a life full of waiting (but ended up marrying someone who's away from home just like yijin so it was all for nothing.) Yiin applying asa correspondent in NY without talking to heedo about it first felt so out of character. I refuse to believe that a man who would without hesitation take a bullet for heedo would give up so easily. Ya'll will argue that he wanted to become a great reporter but he couldve become one while staying in Korea. LOVE needs SOME sacrifices. U can't always have it ur way. They both gave up too easily. If the breakup started at around ep 13, i still would have been prepared. But the whole drama revolved around their beautiful relationship only for it to end so badly. I know ya'll will say it makes it more beautiful and bittersweet, but in MY opinion, i felt so distant from yijin and heedo. they werent the same characters they were till ep 13. This kdrama couldve been THE best but the ending in my opinion took out 2 points out of 5. But all in all, thank you NJH and KTR for the beautiful acting and scenes that i will cherish forever.

      I agree wholeheartedly. Till epi 13 he was all in it but at the end his career was more important than her..It's not like they were dating for years either. Also he never shared his feelings with her , I'm so disappointed with that. When things started to get tough, they broke up. So this proves that their relationship was to only to make them happy. Love is about being together in the good & the bad times. The writer just wanted a sad ending for the heck of it.

      Blame the writer for ruining the character's growth 💔 that's what really frustrates me coz suddenly, the characters that we love so much and the qualities that made them lovable got ruined all because the writer is so determined to give the story a sad ending. To somehow show that in reality nothing lasts forever 😑😤
      I don't mind if they don't end up together as long as they stayed in character because Yijin & Heedo and their love is probably the best characters ever written in all kdrama history (let's just forget about ep 16)

    • @nerisac637
      @nerisac637 Před 2 lety +31

      Same. If Yijin was too much into his career, he would not make time for Heedo at all but he was visiting her after his shift. The rushed ending and open ended questions spoiled the beautiful buildup of the story.

    • @marissamcwhiter9381
      @marissamcwhiter9381 Před 2 lety +147

      IMO...the break up was not out of character ...it’s not just wanting to be a good reporter that broke him...it’s being in the middle of hell on earth that did that. This was 9/11 where the tragedy continued on for months and created a huge impact in the world. He was right in the middle of that coming face to face with people he couldn’t really help. It’s a huge trauma for a sensitive empathetic person like Yijin to be in the midst of this tragedy that it was completely changing him. It created this need in him to be involved in the greater events of the world, to make a difference. The problem is it was also within his character to carry his burden alone...so as not to affect anyone else he loves. It’s like suddenly getting plunged into a great trauma...you end up being different. His priorities in life changed...he needed to work this out and probably would be able to...he did eventually go home to be an anchor which makes him less of a frontline person. What made it not work is the combination of Heedo that was dealing with her own personal demons, her childhood trauma of being left alone and abandoned by her mom. If this was another person without this experience they may be able to be patient and wait , eventually getting tired and bitter as well because they don’t know how it feels until they experienced it. But Heedo knew by experience that she won’t be happy, she knew she would simply grow to resent him. What makes this break up beautiful for me, is they did it before they started to hate each other and grow out of love. Doing it this early they stopped hurting each other, they stopped the inevitable guilt constantly eating at them and they can move on keeping their beautiful memories alive. But of course we don’t know how it truly ended Cos for me Heedo’s situation in the present was very vague. We know she doesn’t live with Minchaes father...are they still married? We know she has a shop named 2521...was she truly able to move on from Yijin or did she continue carrying a torch for him. Her mother is still in touch with Yijin, can they possibly get back together? What will finding the diary do for Heedo? In coping with this ending I’ve chosen to imagine that the diary might open a way for Heedo to reach out to Yijin and they might eventually find a way to start again...this thought is comforting for me...🙂

      @Thomas Santa it was a neglect in Yijin part. He is having his own personal issue and his communication to Heedo was lacking. Hee Do just felt left out and neglected because Yijin never shared anything to her anymore. Even her support to him became a burden to Yijin because they simply lived in different world different situation. Yijin were occupied in his own work and death news all the time, he was depressed and refused to talk about his problems. Hee do just felt she is becoming stranger to Yijin’s world that any words to comfort him, just could not reach him anymore. I’m sure they both love each other, it’s just distance makes everything harder for them to communicate heart to heart. My guess is, Yijin’s love language is physical touch and Heedo is words of affirmation. 😊

      Thanks for this insight. Yes it's probably why people are so affected because they literally fell in love with the Heedo and Yijin that came out of Kim Taeri and Nam Joo Hyuk. Reading from their interviews, KTR prepared by learning fencing, getting a good skin regimen, and getting inspiration for teenage looks from a UK teenage series. She said Nam Joo Hyuk also gave his own input for Yijin and it was quite different from the Yijin she read on the script. So they really gave a lot of effort and preparation for this series.

The times gave BJN the opportunity to become a real news reporter. The times gave these two to each other when they needed it the most and the times drove these two apart. Nothing lasts forever other than their memories and that is most beautiful lesson this drama teaches us about life to cherish the good times because we don’t know when there will be a last.

      Yes its sad they couldn’t continue to be friendly after the break up...but I think this simply means that the feelings are still there so it’s difficult to be casual and friendly. Perfectly illustrated by the conversation between Yijin and Seungwan when she asked him if he wants to hear about his ex...he said he’ll just hear it in the news. It was still too painful for him. This is the tragedy of it all...their love was not easy to get over. I’m sure they didn’t expect that...

    I understand the frustrations and heartbreaks of the viewers watching this drama including myself. Even Kim Tae Ri admitted she hated the ending too. But to be fair with the writers, they left hints suggesting they won’t end up together. As much as I wanted them to end up together, it only made sense for these two to break up. The amount of stress they’re dealing from constant disappointments of broken promises is not healthy anymore. Hee Do is always waiting, compromising, and that’s what she’s been doing all her life from her relationship with her mom. Yi Jin always apologizing, never on time, and just shows up whenever he can. They have already been growing apart little by little and their relationship is not as supportive as before. I loved the fact that they took the courage to face the reality that no matter how much they still LOVED each other, it’s not working out so rather than holding on to an unhealthy relationship they chose to let each other go. That to me is TRUE LOVE. It takes a lot of courage to let go of someone you love deeply in order to free them from the pain and wishing them happiness even if it meant you’re not part of that happiness anymore. I really enjoyed watching this series. It reminded me so much of my HS days including nostalgia of living int the 90s. I am officially a fan of Nam Joo Hyuk after this drama. Kim Tae Ri couldn’t play her part better. She nailed it so much it’s astonishing knowing how much age gap she and her character had. Hopefully these two can do another project in the future!

    When I first saw this scene, it broke my heart for real. It was like a real break up and I couldn’t even breathe properly. My heart feels so heavy. It’s so realistic. I mean they knew they had to let each other go because they do not want to hurt each other more. That is understandable for a relationship which started from friendship because it is the best foundation of any romantic relationship. You may not get it at first because of frustration but eventually you will because this is how a coming of age drama should end. Showing a message about “It’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

    Read a lot of reddit comments claiming that the writer butchered the characters and this is unlike Heedo and Yijin but that just tells me that they didn't watch the drama closely. This was bound to happen and the writer was careful enough to set it up from the start of the drama. Heedo's problem with Yijin has always been that he would never open up to her, and even to the end, he did not. For good reason though, he didn't want to put his burden onto her. He wanted to protect her as he always had. They love each other but they just aren't compatible, they have different ideas of love, and that's why it hurts so much.

    • @marissamcwhiter9381
      @marissamcwhiter9381 Před 2 lety +27

      Yup this was very much in character...they built their character up in this show so we would understand. The way Yijin empathizes too much with others...how he promised those people his father owes money to that he will never be happy...the way he tried to help everyone in the squad at different times...making their problems his. This just shows how deeply he would feel the 9/11 tragedy and how it would change his priorities...he would need therapy and a lot of time before he would prioritize his own happiness. That’s why he didn’t want Heedo to share that burden...he loves her too much. Also Heedo...remember she also tries to turn tragedy to comedy So she can move on? Well that would be impossible to do if she stayed with him at this time of their life...she would be miserable...so totally in character for her to choose to let go of him as well. That’s why I love this drama and what the writer did. You really have to pay attention to the many details to understand why this happened.

    • @babygoo89
      @babygoo89 Před 2 lety +6

      One of the best comments I’ve read. Very well said. People blamed the writer only because the ending wasn’t something they’d hoped for. I’ve watched many kdramas and 25 21 is definitely one of my top 5s. It’s well written and the script has prepped audience well on their characters and eventually the break-up, only if you paid meticulous attention to the characters and their dialogues, and perhaps have gone through the era of 2000 (and 911) or have experienced similar situations as the protagonists do. This ending, in my opinion, was as realistic as it could be. I actually think it doesn’t make sense if they stayed together cos this type of relationship definitely wouldn’t last long. I am from that generation as the protagonists (I was exactly at Yi Jin’s age in the time that this drama was set in) so I can relate well. The only fall short for me is that I wish there could just be 1 extra episode for us to see more of their love before the relationship started going downhill because their love was just too beautiful.

    • @muizz6681
      @muizz6681 Před 2 lety +1

I’m still a teenager and I deeply felt the excitement to enjoy my youth and follow my dreams(as if I have one🤥). It spiked me that these days will be one of the best times in life and I should enjoy the fullest out of it. The best memories in life may not be the endgame after all, but the fact that it was one of the best moments in life never fades away. And that’s why this drama still deserves a raise. They loved without regret, supported each other through tough times and their break up led them to greater heights in their careers which they dreamt of. Nam Joo Hyuk and Kim Tae Ri's acting is authentic; exceptional. And this drama's OSTs, the timing when they are played, are perfection. The poigbant break up makes 2521 even more memorable. The actings were top notch, Nam Joo Hyuk never fails to deliver both visuals and talent even without exploiting or delving into his sexiness, Kim Tae Ri is such a delight to watch, her ability to express emotions in any spectrum is really laudable, the other characters are also unbelievably talented, not missing any chance to showcase their contribution to the drama, and I specially love the ending for Bona and Choi Hyun Wook, for staying together despite the circumstances, which I sincerely hoped would be the case for our main lead as they’ve been the original ones who had to go through so much adversities. Here because I just finished watching this show. It was excellent. It was true to life. People don't always end up with their first love but that person impacts you forever. So relatable!

    This drama had such a beautiful and hear warming meaning, and this scene was everything! They meant sooo much to eachother and felt them being away from eachother was best cause they cared for eachother and wanted them to be happy. This last hug shows that how much they still care for eachother and will always support eachother even if they are not together. Every single dialogue had such deep meaning, a masterpiece indeed. This drama made me cry, laugh and made my heart warm! Gonna miss 2521 sooo muchhhh💖💖💖

    this series is so sad, and somewhat depressing.... but teach us the art of letting go... not all break ups necessarily be falling out of love, sometimes break ups lead to gives each party a kind of nourishing individually. 25 21 is a series that gives you a different kind of heart break attack that will surely you don't know it is coming..
