This guy has the best, goofiest personality. I love his sense of humor. And he plays beautifully. I look forward to his videos.

at first sight i thought: that doesn't look as huge as i imagined it to be... not as lengthy as the flute bags at least....
(given the basic length of the flute, flute bags are usually long, and sometimes tall and wide... if you carry along the piccolo)
and then i saw the breadth of the bag and realized: that bag could carry A LOT if you take out the oboe from it....😂😂😂
and yeah, i can hear some bassonists and cellists laughing out there😂😊

Funny, I have the same tiny Bonne Maman jar for wetting reeds. :)

I collab'd with an oboist a few years ago, and she showed me inside her case. I was surprised to see no turkey feathers, just like in your kit. When I was studying, we (and our teachers) used turkey feathers to swap out our oboes. Now it looks like manufactured oboe swabs are a cottage industry. I'm guessing there was an animal cruelty issue with the continued use of turkey feathers as oboe swabs. In high school symphonic band, I became instantly popular when my other wind-playing colleagues saw me blotting my keys with cigarette paper. Since nowadays it's me and my EWI, I keep thinking it might be fun to film a "What's in my EWI Case?" video. (Spoiler alert: It's my EWI, a USB cable, and a cheesecloth for swabbing purposes.) Oh yeah, and Happy New Year back at-cha!!

Super interesting comment! Yeah, the turkey feathers were bigger some time ago. I used them to oil the bore of my oboe but not even anymore.

Hey, I've had both goose and turkey feathers, but I've always find the modern swabs more effective. Note that people are eating turkey everyday all around the world, so feathers are available in large quantity 😅, you don't have to "hurt" a living bird to get one. Btw, I just discovered that some oboe shops sell turkey feathers for 5 € a unit, that's just insane.

I'm going to buy a little pot for soaking my reeds which can stick to the music stand. Have you seen these? I think that would be very useful. I hope that one day I will be able to play oboe in a concert band or at church in a group. That would be so lovely, and a water pot like that would be very good for rehearsals. I'm getting on ok with the oboe, just need to get better at dynamics!! I find it difficult to play quietly, everything is loud. Can you help with this please? Thank you so much, as I don't have a teacher yet. Very excited indeed about buying my new oboe. Our local music shop where we have rented an oboe for six months trial since last May has ordered a brand new Buffet Student oboe for me, model BC4131 Thumb plate. Have you seen this one? It certainly has received excellent reviews. Apparently it caters for people with all sizes of hands, and my hands are very small, so stretching with my little finger is difficult. I'm currently learning to play E flat, and that is quite hard to play, but I think this new Buffet Student oboe will be easier as it is a new design. I will let you know how I get on when my new oboe arrives!! Very exciting times ahead here!! 🥰

Hi there, Happy New Year to you too!! Just to say that I'm new here, and I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I took up the oboe last May, as it was a birthday present from my hubby to start a six months trial renting of an oboe, and it is truly wonderful!! I will be buying a brand new one of my very own very soon, as the rental has expired, and our music shop has ordered me one. I'm getting a brand new Buffet Student oboe, and I believe that it is the Prodige Thumbplate BC4131 model. Feeling mega excited, as this oboe has fantastic reviews, and I really can't wait to try it!! Of course I will test it out very thoroughly before purchasing it, so vitally important to try before you buy!! So I don't have an oboe bag yet, but of course the new Buffet will have one. I'm currently learning on a Buffet Artiste, a very old model which Buffet don't make any more, but it plays nicely, producing a pretty good sound, and I've been very lucky as the music shop have extended the rental so I can still practice while waiting for the new oboe to arrive. I buy my reeds online from Regency Reeds who are a very good company. They are super speedy at dispatching reed orders, and they are always neatly packaged, also very responsive reeds with a very good sound and at a lower price of £13.50 which is really fantastic!! I'm very happy buying reeds from this extremely reliable company as I would be absolutely hopeless at making them!! I'm really not a craftswoman so I will carry on with doing what works really well. Here's to a wonderfully magical year of oboe playing!! Thank you for your wonderful videos, and may God bless you lots with your beautiful music in 2024. 🤩
