- Join our Fine Art Consultant, Lucy Edwards, as she guides us through the art of Johnny Depp and his latest art collection, 'The Bunnyman Genesis'.
Infused with a celestial undertone, this fantastical series of mixed media screen prints overlaid with gold detail is rooted in childhood memories. Some years ago, Depp saw a sketch of a figure by his son, who’d been unsettled by a nightmare in which he’d appeared. The figure reminded the artist that, decades before, he’d also experienced recurring dreams involving this character. “That dream kept coming to me. I had it a lot and that’s sort of what The Bunnyman became, that figure in the dream”.
Like all great urban legends or dark fairytales, the myth of The Bunnyman evolved over time and through countless retellings, to take on supernatural elements, existing at a doorway between reality and imagination. Depp perceives him as a powerful guardian and symbol of strength. “The Bunnyman is something that I feel very close to”.

It's incredible how multi talented Johnny is. I love the bunny man paintings and what they represent. Very special that Johnny and his son Jack both share this vision of the bunny man. Maybe one day Johnny could write a story for the bunny man and create a film. I'd love to watch that vision come to life on the screen!

Hearing about JD’s art has transformed my life and completed my existence. He is worthy of all praise as one of the world’s greatest geniuses since the dawn of time.
The more I learn about Johnny, the more I realise just how much of a kindred spirit he is. Rizla art is the latest synergy. I've been making art with Rizlas for a couple of decades now and have a work of Hunter S Thompson that I really want to sell to Johnny, so he can donate it to the Gonzo Foundation. Either that or sell it to Rogan for his compound.
Absolutely beautiful, and just surreal that he is now also getting the full freedom to express himself in all colors he wants. Surely I can't afford any of those paintings but I hope that by keeping their picture as my wallpaper makes him feel more supported and much loved. Is the red and black one referencing the Indigenous Australian flag? Just upside down? The flag’s design consists of a coloured rectangle divided in half horizontally. The top half of the flag is black to symbolise Aboriginal people. The red in the lower half stands for the earth and the colour of ochre, which has ceremonial significance. The circle of yellow in the centre of the flag represents the sun.
