literally just changed a mirror after the old one fell off - took me 2 minutes after watching this video, thanks!
Did it fall off the motor? Mine looks like the glass melted off the black heat pad.
@@Bootsk1n it was just the glass that fell off. I’m guessing the warm weather we had over summer dried out the glue and the glass just dropped off. The rest of the mechanism (i.e. the motor etc.) was fine - just the glass that came off. Couldn’t believe it 😂
Same thing just happened last week in my 2015 S that I've had since Nov 2014. Glass literally separated from the back piece that mounts to the housing.
@@alexshootsphotos I’ve had to do both of mine since I’ve had the car (about 4 years now). According to professor Google it’s a “golf thing” that the wing mirror glass randomly falls off. You have to laugh really 😂
@@cha02psc Same happend to me. Right side just flew off while driving and left side came off a few months later while washing the car. (07 passat)
Thank you, had a broken one & replaced very easily after watching.
Just got these in yesterday and installed them today. Removal is obviously more difficult and risky than installation, as stated in the video.
Suggest using a plastic pry tool to pry from behind the mirror at the center. Also use a think flat-blade screwdriver to slightly undo the outer clips, that seems to help.
Suggest also having a mat under the mirror in the worst-case scenario that either the glass breaks when removing, or you drop the new mirror. (Thankfully I did neither.)
The metal tabs on my old mirrors had a bit of white grease on them which isn't mentioned in any of the videos I've watched. Oh yeah I got the impression the metal tabs snapped into something, but they just stand free and I think guide against the inside of the mirror cavity.
The most difficult part of reinstalling was attaching the wires and snapping them into the guide channels. It's a bit fiddly.
Other than that, pretty straightforward.
Haven't driven with them yet as I just finished installing.
You rock! Thanks for the extra tips. Installing these tonight.
great video. you should do an install tutorial on the auto folding mirrors
Appreciate these videos, thank's guys
No problem. Thanks for watching.
This morning, at the second turn my mirror said "nah, im leaving..bye" and literally just hop off the car and walked away, and i think i need get a new one, so thanks your tutorial! =)
Hey there,
The mirror on my golf mk7.5 is equipped with a lane assist blind spit yellow indicator light.
Is the procedure of removing the mirror the same as in this video?
Thanks!
Thanks nice and easy
Thanks just about t do it now
My passager door mirror went bang and then the glass went black has I had the heater mirror s on
Thanks!
Would these work on a MK7 VW Jetta (2021)? Thanks.
Just got mine installed. Thanks for the video, guys!
No problem... Thanks for the order. We appreciate it very much. Hope the video was helpful during your install.
It was helpful in telling me how I should be careful when pressing the new mirrors on, yet I still managed to break the first one. :/
+David Cluck Did you break the old one removing it or the new one going on? I have a set ordered and this is getting me paranoid.
+Rick L I broke the first of the two new mirrors. I was doing it at light and was pushing too hard when I put it on. It's really pretty easy.
+David Cluck Hi Dave - thanks for the reply, sorry to hear about the breakage. Talking to my local VW dealer, the service manager told me how easy it is to swap these over and went to a used car in the showroom to demonstrate. He managed to break the mirror removing it. Maybe I need to schedule a vacation to Charlotte this year and let the guys at Deutsche Auto Parts do the swap. I has to warmer than Wisconsin.
How do you remove the entire mirror?
My mirror glass recently fell off while hitting a bump time for replacement
What do you think about using a small suction cup on the middle of the mirror to aid in the extraction?
It could help. Its worth a try if you want.
The site shows like dotted lines on them, is that a sticker or are they permanent? Is the whole mirror aspherical or just the corner passed the dotted lines?
The line is permanent (printed on, not etched, but not a sticker). The "aspherical"-ness extends outward of these lines; it is normal vision inward of the lines.
Just got my replacement mirror in the mail and no Shopdap sticker Paul! :(.
excellent video. how can I order a set of these for my 2016 gti?
+Bryan Nogues Take a look here deutscheautoparts.com/mk7-blind-spot-mirrors-5g0-857-521.html
Why didnt the GTI MK7 come with these in the first place?
Euro-spec only. The US-spec (and I suspect also Canada and Latin America) MK7's, all variants, all models in fact, do not have these.
I only ever learned about these myself when I rented an Audi A3 in Germany a few months ago that had these. Also a Ford C-Max after that that had it on only one side (can't remember which).
On the passenger side most likely. My '02 SAAB 9-5 had the same euro-spec mirror.
True story!
outdated / bad US laws, these mirrors would prevent so many accidents
Would this be the same process for the MK6 variant?
Yes, I've done this exact thing with my previous car, which was a Mk6 Sportwagen (variant). Basically the only difference is a slightly different glass shape.
Fun fact on the MK7.5 R the mirror wires are glue to the mirror, you cannot remove it without using heat to get the glue removed from the wires.
What glue would be best to stick a fallen mirror off?
My fallen too. Quality is shocking ;/
Is it necessary to disconnect the battery before replacing the glass due to the wiring?
wouldn't be enough voltage to hurt, but as long as the wiring isn't exposed through the housing then you'll be fine
How this will work ? Because the there is Radars in behind bumper detecting the cars are in blind spot or behind ? It's not just the mirrors
These have European-style "aspherical" glass that is curved slightly more at the outer ends to provide more outward visibility.
If your car has Blind Spot detection, you will want the set that is meant for DAP and is about $30 or more per pair. Those have the Blind Spot indicators and work with DAP.
Howdy do you sell these mirrors for the 2015 B7 too? Thanks.
+Zavier H Im sorry we dont.
+Deutsche Auto Parts Thanks.
So, are the blind spot mirrors are heated as well?
William Galaspie Yes the blind spot mirrors are also heated
I must have moved the passenger side glass Inward too much. Didn't seem like I move it any more then the driver's side lol. A plastic tab popped out of the mirror motor backing and prevented it from moving any direction after I installed the wide angle glass. To remove the motor via one central torx screw in the motor if this happens to you. I was able to push the tab back into place that was making the motor bind up. Everything works fine now.
Which wire goes on which slot??
I've never seen in any video that it matters; however on both of mine the black/red wire was on "top", and blue wire at the "bottom".
You can also freeze-frame at 1:06 and see how they are configured.
Will it fit vw cc 2013 lux?
Tung Tran This will work for a CC deutscheautoparts.com/make-model-year/volkswagen/cc/2013-current/exterior/mirrors/vw-cc-euro-aspherical-blind-spot-mirrors.html
I just installed mine on my cc but for some reason when I'm adjusting the driver side mirror, the passenger mirror is moving as well. Do you know why that might happen after install?
Nathaniel Cruz Tough to say. Could be a bad mirror knob deutscheautoparts.com/5k1-959-565-xsh.html
+Nathaniel Cruz You have an option to turn it OFF in your setting. You're welcome ;)
has to be electrical, you probably connected the terminal wires wrong or opposite.
You have your setting on mirror synch. You can turn it off. Check the manual.
I thought it was a Mirror - not a “Meeragh”?
Im not seeing anything light up...? Is a light supposed to come up in the mirror?
+CreativeControl904 If you have blind spot monitoring these are the mirrors you need deutscheautoparts.com/mk7-blind-spot-mirrors-with-dap-blind-spot-monitor.html
I believe the wires are for the mirror heater.
You said you change the mirror caps, but don't show the process to do so. Big shame.
/\ /\ Broke his glass :((
$131?... I though ECS was overpriced.
+Mark7 GTI if you are comparing these to the blue aftermarket Chinese ones they are not the same. We offered them for a short time but found the quality to not meet our standards so we discontinued them.
No of course not, I was comparing them to the ECS units.
Those are Chinese aftermarket. ECS sells the OEM ones for $144.74 currently.
Ah gotcha. Was planning to do this but way too much money.
@Mark7 GTI Becautoparts sells non-OEM ones for $80
