The most frequently asked question about the new JD-08 and JX-08? Polyphony!
ℹ The JD-08 has a maximum polyphony of 128 voices. Please note, this can vary depending on patch load.
ℹ The JX-08 has a maximum polyphony of 20 voices.
ℹ Sequencer - Two-part, eight notes per part (polyphonic)
If only it comes with 3 octaves keys instead of only 2 octaves.
@@paulussantosociwidjaja4781 it's a boutique so it comes WITHOUT keyboard... The optional 2 octave toy is a gimmick for quick sketches. Add a decent 61-76-88 keyboard !
@@deauvillevrienden And portability. Wasn't gonna get the keyboard for the reasons you state, but even I have to admit that it's convenient for on-the-go or as a quick addition live.
Sometimes I want to get out of my home studio and sit in the lounge with some headphones, so I’ll be grabbing the keyboard too.
@@alistairsteadman3765 Exactly! I can't deny the convenience, especially with the built-in polyphonic sequencer.
Man, David's demo's are always rock solid!
Loved the JD800 so much and really excited to see and hear the new boutique version. Lovely demo, cant wait to get my hands and ears on it. It’s going to be a hit for a new generation of producers. Well done Roland! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
Thank you for the kind words. We can't wait to hear what you'll create with it! 🧡
Great demo David. Nice one.
Now I can finally play those mall gigs.
It's such a good demo, no keyboard wanging!
Wow Roland this is amazing. Big fan of your products and own all of the Boutiques so far, a few doubles too haha. I’m surrounded by Roland. Also own some of your classic gear too from the 80s and 90s. Would love to try these new ones. Massive congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥
wow been asking for this since the Boutiques started and you guys really delivered and did not let down by any means. thank you Roland, you've always been my favorite!
We're so happy you like it! 🧡
My prayers have been answered! Thank you Roland!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these!!!
Happy to serve! Thank you for your kind words ^^.
Was not expecting that! I always wanted to get a JD800 but they are so damn expensive nowadays... I really love those amazing pads that the JD800 can do! What would be even better is a Boutique JV1080 with the same amount of control as the JD08... That would be amazing! Cheers Roland (and David)!
Finally! Expanded polyphony! Love that.
Such a nice touch to reproduce the skewed layout of the JD-800 on the left hand side. Well done Roland!
Thanks make, it's all in the details. Can't wait for you to experience it 🧡
@@rolandglobal Yeah I loved that bit of detail. Really made me smile when I saw it. I know what I'll be getting for Christmas now :-)
Wow. Back in the day the JD800 was a battleship of a synth. Now a boutique. Amazing. I really hope they do a JP8000 version
The leap in technology over the past 30 years is truly remarkable.
Yes! This gives me hope for a jp-8000 as well. This is pretty awesome itself though; I might have to get one!
@@rolandglobal guys, as you see a lot of people waiting for smaller JP8000 :D
Why do the 8000 when you can do the 8080?
@@rolandglobal shame there hasn't been a leap in UX design.
The boutique line is some of my favorite stuff ever made.
I LOVE the micro machine nature of em. Can't wait for my jd to come in :)
I'm hoping they're going to release a poly analog version of one of these. If they did that they would sell a lot! Cuz Dropbox has got that new Jupiter style $600 desktop. I mean they should be able to pull this off. If they were smart I'd be interesting if they did some more specialty products in this line like granular synthesis etc I mean they would have a big market if they entered this boutique into the modern era.
The only analog boutique sized module they released was the SE-02 and it was mono, I just hope if they were to release future boutiques like a JP-04 or other past synths, that they release fully polyphonic ANALOG boutiques at the same price as the SE-02, going back and re-releasing old boutiques doesn’t make business sense (except for the early models, I mean cmon man 4 voices??) now that I think about it, a re-issue of the Jupiter 8 synths with a built in Jupiter 4 engine, 8 voice polyphony would actually fly off the shelves
I can’t believe how far things have come. I remember my mate back in the day saving for years for the original synth. I remember the day he fired the huge piece of kit up in his bedroom. It was like a spaceship landing.
Now it’s all able to be thrown in a backpack.
"all" lol
....good luck focusing partials using the TVF sliders :)
.... but is it really the same? No.
7:27 I like how he explains the difference between midi synchronization and triggering by saying that synchronization is synchronization, while triggering is actually triggering...
I like how your comment is just repeating what all of us heard in the video.
(I swear I’m not really _that guy,_ I actually love timestamp comments 😅)
Yep preordered. This looks and sounds so awesome!
The JD 800 was the main synth when I was initiated into the mysteries of MiDi, way back. Dude went on to top the charts in the UK for 40 weeks or so, working his magic. Nice of you to bring it up to date!
Stoked that you like it and thanks for sharing that story!
Thanks Roland it's the kind of synth i want for so long, when i was 14 years old i could'nt afford the originale JD 800 , but i try so much the best at my local shop, i finaly get an MC 303 instead ^^
We're stoked you'll be able to fulfill your life long dream!🧡
Fantastic! More Boutiques! Collect them all. I need to buy a new rack for these new Boutiques! 😀
What a synthesizer, love it
Good demo.
Looking forward to the inevitable comparison vids with the VST version.
I imagine it'll sound the same as the VST.. half suspect the Roland ESC2/BMC chips are ARM quad cores with some extra DSP logic or such.. so they can easy cross-compile plugins from x64
I don't have the money to get an actual jd-800, but really like the 90s video game-esque aesthetic the sound has. Amazing pads and iconic keys - not to mention the really cool distorted leads (which I'm a really big fan of). This new boutique model might just be the best solution to my problem, thanks Roland!
You will love the JD-08! Go for it
@@rolandglobal Roland the fans have been asking for a JP-8000 so make it happen it will be a knock out...
bravo roland.... fisrt roland synth i'm excited about since....well your sh01a !!! the sequencer looks awesome..exactly the thing that i can use, and trig in is the way to go.. ever since my sh101 and dr55 from way back in 1983 land its been my way of syncing . well done roland...proud of you xx
Bring this to new Zealand asap. The boutique series is so cute and lovely sounding
We'll do our best, thank you 🧡☺️
This is sooooo cool! I like the way they took up the original design and implemented it in the boutique version.
Happy you noticed the resemblance with the OG JD-08 - true connoisseur! 🧡
Well, I'm sold. And I'll join those asking for a jp8080 in this form factor or better. Thank you, Roland!
It is really nice to see the JD800 get so much attention. I hope that it arrives in the Fantom as well!

Roland you have now have the best spokesperson and and someone how makes explanations so simplified. I have Dysgraphia show not tell and with simplistic words. Thank you for your kind words. We agree, David is truly a great demonstrator! 🧡
Love those distorted tones!
Love it brotha!!!! Awesome job!!!!
Thanks Ed, you're awesome 😎🔥🧡
I just bought this synth and man its amazing! Ive been using it with your Galaxia software along side the drum machines for a jam!
This guy's an excellent demo artist
It's a cute adorable little critter, gonna have to get one since I have the JD-800..... 2 of these monsters would be amazing together
Roland is killing it lately, holy man
Smashed it out of the park👍❤️🙏
A very interesting thing, I think I’ll buy it after the release. I’ll be very happy if you release a boutique version of Roland JP-8000

@@rolandglobal fancy seeing you here Mr Wright…make that two insta purchases ( I had the original before you btw ;))
I am reading that I wasn't quite the only one jokingly suggesting a JD-800 in Boutique format. Well, the cramming worked with the SH-02, but your spaceship JD-800 would be a totally different ballpark. Still, you managed to surprise me once again. Just heard this wonderful news on Talking Synths on the Syntaur channel while they were actually talking about string machines, another love of mine. So it's by chance that this news came along. And the JX-8P as well. Come on, guys. This is incredible news. But yes, please make a Boutique JP-8000/8080, like asked (begged) in 50% of the comments. All my wet dreams will come true. Bravo!
Very cool demo!
thank you kindly 🧡
Will get this when it is available.
Great sounds ! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
This was an overview and demo. Thank you.
glad you liked it ☺️🙏
I've been joking Roland should boutique the JD-800 for years, thinking it probably wouldn't be possible, as mammoth as the original was.
Roland proved me wrong. And I want one.
Haha right?
🧡
The jd 08 would be beast for Psytrance with that randomisation
The 20's is truly the golden age of synths.
Synth bonanza! 🧡
My JD-08 arrives tomorrow and I'm super-excited. I told myself last month that I didn't need anymore synths after buying a Hydrasynth but here we are 😂 It looks incredible. Great video. But that blue wire just getting in the way of your fingers really triggers my OCD 🙈
This looks cool
Now I want one!
Wicked. A mini JD-800.
Let's hope you guys do a mini JP-8000 👊👊👊👊💪💥🔥🔥🔥
can't wait to buy it
We can´t wait for you too have it! 🧡
I love the boutique series. If I was rich, I'd collect them all. Need to make palm sized mini versions so I can collect them.
Dope demo! Kung D 👊🏻
David är en beast! Vi ska hälsa till honom från dig 😊
Nice! A mini-JD-800, with a multi-directional sequencer... A great way to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of this little guy's Granddaddy!
After having watched both the JD-08 and the JX-08 I'm still pretty excited about these new releases. However having both a JX-03 and JP-08 I'd like to say that usability would increase 10x by growing the size of the boxes. Why don't you go for 19" rack width with the option of adding rack ears to them? With a little bit bigger space and nobs (and 43 cm instead of 30 cm) it would be a lot easier using these boutiques. And hey, you skipped the pitch and modulation bars and upgraded to usb-c (which is good since micro-usb was never really fool proof), so I believe there would be a much bigger market for these gadgets by just increasing them in size to a boutique mark 2.
And this would open up for a full-size keybed of 2 octaves or 3 octaves for the mini toylike keybed (which are really hard to use for someone who is used to play synth or hammer-action keys) and the missing pitch bender. Improve the series by making them a little more user friendly, please!
A rack format would be great for a lot of these boutiques, they feel just a little cramped for their large feature set.
I prefer what Korg does. If they make a small synth, like the Monologue, they usually make it simplistic to match, which makes it a powerful little box that is quick to use. Same thing with the bass station 2. This thing unfortunately has the negatives of being both small and complex to program at the same time.
MIDI keyboards do exist sir
@@t55a2 Of course they are an option, but a midi keyboard won't increase the size of those tiny slides and knobs. I've used a JX03 in a live situation and it:s not very user-friendly.
Also Arturia's Minibrute is more playable than the Microbrute which has those awful minikeys.
Amen to that. Its so silly to have these be so small. I have owned a tr09 for years and ive never stopped thinking, "this thing is for tiny people" lol
What I wouldn't do for more throw distance on my SH-01A faders!
NICE!
Best boutique by far! You should have made a larger format version of this one (need not be 5 octaves necessarily)... hope something arises in that direction...
It already happened and was called JD-XA. :p
Geniaaaal !!! :)
Sweet roland 👍🏻 2:30 i really dig the guitar stortion sound. This is a sound thats close to my sound pallette. Love it 🙏
Maybe a little premature, but when are we going to see a jp8000? Super saws in a small size would be super.
The synths look and sound awesome, and great presentation, but my favorite part of the video are the giant Lego block baffles!
😂
Timbres e harmônicos maravilhosos!!!
that thing sounds rad!
We'll share more sound demos on our IG soon.

Just sold my jd800 yesterday after getting the Keybed replaced, guess I know what I’m buying today 😮💨😍
🧡☺️ The timing!
Excellent demo! And it does sound like my old JD-800, too. No need for an original to get those sounds.
Sounds great! I see that 707 in the background 🧐 hopefully some news about that upcoming as well 🤞
Model expansions for mc707 would be amazing!
Great overview - really looking forward to this synth being available!
Also, I bet it is available, but would like to confirm - can you assign the two patch slots to different midi channels to control them separately?
I would like to know this too.
@RolandChannel, is it sysx-compatible with the real JD800? I would love to have real-time MIDI control over this 128-voice expander box using the faders on the actual thing. Well, also sending the thoroughly collected patches to it...
So is it possible, or is it a sealed blackbox?
Was wondering if Roland would Boutique the JD-800. Very cool!
Glad you like it
Well done for Botique series. I'd need some other series as the faders are to small for me. Something Argon or Cobalt or Reface size would be welcome. Just need more travel room on the faders.
Nice. I notice you filmed this in the Tardis too. Wish I could meet the Doctor one day.
Man, no matter what instrument, this guy is SO talented...🎹 And the JD-08 is cute af:)
Pre-Ordered! I used to have the original JD-800. I am glad to see this JD-08 has up to 128 voice polyphony compared to the 24 of the original. It will make an even greater pad synth.
on thomann there is written only 4 poliphony voices, where yu find this info ?
Yeah, where you see this info about polyphony? If this digital synth has only 4-voice polyphony at €410, or it can expand its polyphony with additional cost, it'll be another big joke for synth industry.
@@BlackBlofeld you can see on another comment of mine that Roland answered that poliphony Is 128 notes (depending on the structure of the patch), but you can see that comment to be sure ;)
There VST version is more true to the original, especially Sound wise.
Plus 2 times cheaper.
@@maydaygoingdown5602 it's common talk that vst version on roland cloud ( made with ACB technology ) are a little more faithfull comparing to the zencore modal versions inside this two new roland boutique and inside new fantom and jupiter x/xm .. i agree with that imho
What is the resolution of the faders? 0-256? I like the form factor of the boutiques but with 10mm faders, 1mm = 25 bytes. Hope tones won't be hard to dial in
1mm = 25 _bits_
(a byte is 8 bits)
Omg you made my dream come true
Sweet dreams are made of Roland Boutique 🧡
I wanna buy this one!!!
Dear Roland, this gentleman was the perfect pick for this video. Well delivered, great job and of course, great sounding synth! I just wish you guys would start building some more sturdy feeling products like you used to. Give me some weight! :)
Hey! This is great news. What a treat.
Please could you let me know if this synth engine will accept the original JD-800 MIDI messages? 🤞🏽
Jesus!! I want one!!!
Look forward to it in Indonesia
Just in time for Christmas
🎅 Let's Go ho ho!
After the D50 , The JD800 was the last of my fav Roland synths
That's two for two then. Do you have a third fav?
I cant believe they actually did it, id suggested a couple of years ago for the JD even though i thought that the panel controls would have been a problem in a small form factor, well done Roland for being able to do it! The big question is, does this come installed with all the additional ram cards?
That is amazing to hear. Great minds 🧠 👊
The JD-08 includes the original 64 presets from the JD-800, plus 21 new presets with total memory for 256 patches. The JD-08 includes the original 108 waveforms, multi-phase time variant envelopes, two-stage multi-effects, and tone sliders all found on the original JD-800.
@@rolandglobal Great minds indeed :) that's awesome! I used to have the Original JD back in 92', so it looks like i'll be throwing down some cash on this since trying to get an original these days is hard as the prices are going through the roof!
I hope Roland make a new batch TR-09, JP-08, D-05 and others! :-)
Thanks for the feedback.
Hey, what's the polyphony on these two new units, please? Thanks :)
Oh man Roland please do JP 8000 boutique. That would be instant gold strike - first day buy from me
wow lovely! are patches from the original compatible with this? like the d50 & d05?
Great demonstration video! I miss my JD-800 .. Can someone please build an improved clone of the original programmer for the JD-800?! That would be super fun to use with the JD-08!
707 & 727 GOTTA BE COMING SOON TOO I BET
Yes! Another boutique! 💪👏
This thing rocks x real, I thing I'll try go x
Nifty! They've done good job of shrinking down the interface.
I don't really get where Roland are coming from with the polyphony on these things, 128 notes on this, 4 on everything else?
the jd800 is the one i was waiting for but i do wish it had a proper lcd screen for editing or at least give us a proper vst editor so we can really get under the hood and tweak it..the top is missing tons off editing parameters so most people will only use the presets which is a real shame because the full size jd800 was a beast of a synth.
Looks great!
Question, Does motion record support external midi cc?
Lets say i wanted to use microkorg as keyboard for this and also sequence microkorg from track b, would i be able to wiggle filter on microkorg and record it?
Another point, very nice touch having individual step length! Is it possible to change step dividers per track, eg. 1/8 on track b(8bar) and 1/16 on track a(1bar)
Please please hurry this to retailers, would love to wiggle it around christmas, rather than wait til january. 😁
When I grow up I want a Roland.
Vaporwave machine. This is the first boutique I think I'll buy
Let's go!
I love that Roland are scrabbling to stand out beside Behringer’s steady flow of clones. Behringer have set the standard for affordable, well made synth gear. It’s very healthy for the market and invaluable for the end user.
"well made" - in my experience the Neutron was shipped with broken MIDI implementation; it crashes every time within a half hour under simple MIDI note on-off. And in practical use the placement of the osc mixer knob between the osc tuning knobs is a UI/ergo disaster, tuning can fly off the handle easily with the slightest touch.
I'd take a Roland over a Behringer any day! All that history where Behringer just steals it!
Cool demo, how many voices does it have, and how many steps long is the sequencer?
I’d actually like to see Behringer make clones of the boutique series
Ironic af 🤣🤣🤣
Srsly brud
@@eleven9286 what?
You know they will. And they will include sysex control too, unlike this unit. Im not knocking it, its still an amazing unit
If Roland will sue Alesis about a mesh drumhead patent, my gut tells me they might be more inclined to send a cease and desist for that matter.
Will the boutique version have the possibility for aftertouch as the original did? Don’t see where anyone asked nor is it noted on your website. I assume no for the k-25m but if you have a midi controller with aftertouch will is support!!
God damn Roland for the win
excellent roland.. i never had any synth from roland but having the jd 800 was a dream to get and now i think on my birthday later i will buy this. and good that it is not big i could put it on my table in my room.. my question - same sound as the bigger jd 800?
Glad you like it! Yes it has the same sounds as the original, and more actually.
