This guy is a really good presenter.
Really like his professionalism.
This guy would excel in any form of sales. I can tell this is where he wants to be.
also he sells them with the perfect Kraftwerk/Anthony Rother style of sound he creates on them. one gotta know about them and their sound to aim at the customer interested in the original synths...like me for instance...lol. yup, he does this very professional - leaves no question unanswered.
This guy does the best demos for roland!
yes, great demo & explanation
Finally Roland have got over the 4 voice poly problem - Thank you!!!!
@@roberttodd2414 I wouldn’t say “far” less accurate.
@@roberttodd2414 Having had extensive experience with the original (JD-800) instrument, we're just going to have to disagree.
@@roberttodd2414 yeah doesn´t have any sense to me. We are in the year 2021 so adding a bit more powerful CPU to the boutiques shouldn´t increase dramatically the price. I prefer the ACB boutiques. The zencore ones are super cool MIDI controllers with the Roland Cloud VST built in. I love it, don´t get me wrong, but if you have the Roland Cloud or a Jupiter X/Fantom, you already have this sounds, and because the boutique line has so many options to choose from, my top 5 are ACB models.
it is pretty maddening they just keep rereleasing worse versions of synths from 30 years ago
@@roberttodd2414 you wouldn’t have ACB in the JD08 as it was digital to start with. Plus ACB is a fancy marketing word for digital anyway.
Roland should make a keyboard that holds multiple boutiques
Great idea, fit 4 boutiques into one full size 61 keybed.
I completely agree. For some people who want to get 2 or more Boutique synths to combine sounds as done on the demonstrations, would benefit to have a keyboard that holds 2 or maybe up to 3 modules in a single housing. Specially now that they got several models out.
1000000% agree - with full size keys + aftertouch!! I'm waiting..!
Yes!! I'd finally make a move into boutiques if they do that
That's pretty much what the Jupiter is, I got this model out on it and it's pretty nice they recently let out a software d50 so I'm hoping that's the next expansion. The prices kinda blow but I'd rather pay 150 then a full 1200 for a jd800
Looks like they really took the time to do it right this time. So many great features, and thank you for USB-C! Please make this standard for everything
By far the best video on these new synths. Great job. I can't wait to get the JD-08.
Glad you liked it!
Another vote for Dustin Good, this is maybe the best factory demo I've ever seen.
He did a great job with the MC707 Video Manual as well!
Dustin, you’re MVP, thanks for in-depth explanation and demos!
Incredible in-depth demo - thanks so much!
Glad you liked it!
Excellent presentation and amazing sounds! bring back some great memories from the old days, recently bought JD-08, JX-08 and awaiting SH-01a, can't wait to explore and record with them!
Rock on!
Thank you for doing this extremely thorough and well produced demonstration. I just pre-ordered both of these new models and can't wait to get my hands on them!
Amazing, you'll love them!
Sold my JD800 in 1997 and always regretted it. May have to pick this up!
Thanks so much for this! I still have my JD-800 that I bought in the early 90’s, but I never quite grasped the programming features and functionality of the machine. This video really helped explain the panel (tho miniaturized) and sectional integration.
It’s too bad CZcams wasn’t around when the original JD-800 came out!
I have a jd08 on order, wanted the original for years now so I had to get this reissue. Thanks for the great video, now I'm certain I've made a great buy. Cheers!
Dustin your jam around the 45:00 mark had some proper neo-electro energy going on. Really vibing with that. Love it.
I had a JD-800 for a decade and a JX8 for ages, both are amongst my faves. I shall be getting these two :)
SAME!! At this point in time, I'm convinced there's just no truly digitizing the glorious analog sound...but this sounds pretty damn good. Good enough to sell my snobby ear!
@@neonether analog emulation has never been better, some older iconic analog synths are harder to emulate but eventually they will get it right.
@@Novaheart1998 Fully agree. Technological progress dictates it should get there some day. Currently I love some soft synths as much as my analogs. They’re just different.
Great video! Thanks for a clear demo, Dustin!
You bet!
Dustin , thanks so much for such a great in-depth review.
Dude Im so excited about this...Merry Christmas to me and Hallelujah I can finally get a JD-800!!!
Amazing presenter!! The best boutiques yet plus the D-05.
Awesome.... Thanks for upping the polyphony! 😺
Just got the JD08 what a fantastic little synth, great demo.
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION DUSTY !!
Excellent demo many thanks
good to see my local music store making great content! keep it up guys
Great demo!
Great demo, Dustin! Cheers from LA.
Wow, that pattern length change with the kalimba sound was amazing when paired with the other synth groove. Very nice.
Yup, smart and efficient programming.
That plant on the left is so cool!
It's literally the most recurring character of all our videos. That and the lamp.
Now we just need the Alpha Juno, all that I have been waiting for since the first boutique
Yes! Love my Alpha Juno 2!
Agreed - would LOVE an Alpha Juno Boutique!
I mean at this point they’re the same price as the boutique, why make it? It’s just going to make owning the original variant more expensive.
@@motherfuckerlimited1019 Because of full midi control, size, and that I dont need a keyboard, and also the fact that an Alpha Juno II is not the same price as a boutique, at least not in all countries. I think the JD08 is an even stranger beast to come to life again, I mean, those faders are just too small, and it's not even ACB
@@motherfuckerlimited1019 It seems youtube is kind of broken and my replys arent working, here in Denmark it's not the same price at all as a boutique
Good job dustin, your a real roland synth guy.
I just ordered a JX-08 based on some other reviews/sound examples but Dustin's tutorial has me even more hyped for it to arrive!
Just ordered mine as well based on this (and Sonic State!) Will fit nicely between my MC707 and TR-8S. :)
Hey would you know if it is able to chain patterns in the sequencer?
@@jgbpkoolguys As far as I know, it doesn't have a pattern chain/song mode option. But you are able to create up to 64 step patterns with a different note resolution for sequence A and sequence B (ie- quarter notes for sequence A and 16th notes for sequence B). This plus creative incorporation of the Arp can make some pretty long and complex patterns. Outside of that, I use a deeper external sequencer for pattern chain/song mode options.
@@niceheartwhitesuit Awesome, thanks for responding. How do you like the Jx-08 so far?
@@jgbpkoolguys it’s wonderful! It definitely nails that vintage analog Roland synth vibe, but is also able to push into more modern sounds thanks to the great built in effects. One thing that is easily overlooked though is the ability to select different filter options including a moogy ladder style. This greatly affects the voice of the instrument and makes it even more versatile. It definitely gets more mileage when used with a decent velocity (and aftertouch) sensitive midi-keyboard fwiw.
Dustin is legit. Well done demo.
Thanks!
Just... wow. Bravo!
SUPER VIDEO ! THANKS FOR SHARING THE AWESOME POWER OF THESE 2 UNITS. I'VE JUST BOUGHT THE JD 08 AFTER HEARING IT'S RANGE OF PRESETS.
NICELY PRESENTED TOO ! BEST REGARDS . . . EDDIE ( A UK FOLLOWER )
Thanks for watching from across the pond Eddie!
Killing it!👍💯
These are fantastic 😃
This man is fantastic. Synths nice too.
I am still hoping Roland make an ACB version of the Jupiter-4 and give it a few extra features.
I doubt it as these new ones are zen core not acb
@@The_Invisible_Man May as well get a Jupiter X-m then. LOL!
Funny enough, I think your wish might come true in the form of a JU-04 very soon!
@@DiamondWoodStudiosJP-04
I love that they're offering this as both a micro keys version and a desktop module as well. The JD-800 was a beast and I so wanted one when I was younger. Day One of release.
There technically aren't two different versions. The "desktop module" is just docked into the keyboard: www.long-mcquade.com/64458
You can separate the module section from the keybed section...
I Love my boutique, really fun this new boutiques ❤ 😊👌
Excellent demo. I think I am going to get both of these. The previous boutique synths did not interest me but these two do.
Awesome we hope you enjoy them!
Awesomeness!!!
Great video thank you, any chance of some more on the jx08 😁
the best demonstration on boutique series i ever see by far. congrats. its soo easy for me now to understand how work these little marvel machines. they are amazing. thank you very much dustin. i don't see why are two very similar devices made by roland. what are the differences between them? why choose one over another? best regards
Informative
Honestly, this was amazing. I bought both. The ending track was so sick. Im curious if you can mute/unmute steps like you did with seq part A and B.
35:19 It’s a self-contained dub techno machine!
The best thing about Roland is that they’ve been making the best sequencers for 40 years, and they just throw them in. They fixed every complaint I had about the botiques when they gave these USB C and massive polyphony. But it really blows me away that gave them two whole synth engines with separate 64-step sequencers and separate FX chains. And for playing around without a DAW I really love the Mix In input and the HPF on the JX. I don’t even need to plug it into a Zoom pedal cuz it’s already got chorus/delay/reverb.
I really like my SE-02 but this seems to be next level!
Really nice machines from Roland, just a tad late for Christmas. For me, I like the JD best, although I love the JX8P. Maybe the JX would benefit from being played on a more sensitive keyboard, as it, to my ears, sounds somewhat more ”harsh” than the original (which I however never owned). Really appreciate the real time sequencer too.
Great speaker!
это самый замечательный обзор синтезаторов, что я видел. Спасибо!
Пожалуйста!
Amazing new Boutique. 35:35 sold me.
Hi, in roland Jd 08 how do I change the pitch bend of a sound from -2 to -12? How do I save a sound after making changes? Thanks
i'm gonna get me both. i've been waiting for these, since the boutique line began. and this is excactly what i hoped it would be like...oh and BTW: DOPE way to ad it with actual ELECTRO capabilities a la Anthony Rother lol. you guys from roland should approach him with these...i bet he'll love to do ad-video with them. the only setback is, that the sequencers still got no way to chain patterns or have a song mode...but...well...all this for that money is unparalleled.
Yeah, same here.. both! Those prices are ridiculously cheap for such sounds. I even think of layering those two beasts under the same sound ottaviani style... oh my...
20 voice multi timbral, dual voice arpeggio, sound module! This for me is a no brainer at just over $600 Take my money :)
SOLD!
Question: how do I select a preset and program a sequence on part A and then on part B on the JX-08?
How to change the octave for midi control from the k25m for the sh01a? please help (there is written k25m is able to change about 10 octaves with an boutique model.. so how??)?
Dustin for President...of this!!!!
Who's Justin? ;)
@@longandmcquade OMG!!! Sometimes I'm an idiot! lol I was probably distracted while commenting. I fixed it.
"electro ocean"... Drexciya much? 😂💪🏼... Always loved this guy as an absolute gun presenter of Roland gear... Now just idolise him for his taste in music and that end jam also 🙌
what about sysex patch Dump from the jd800 to jd 08?
Thanks for the video!! Any idea if this synth has a TAP TEMPO button at all?
After you program your own patch, how do you save/write it please? Anyone thanks !!
I'd like to know how they respond to MIDI CCs so that I could create patches playable from the Aerophone AE-30.
Midi implementation is in the manual on roland's site.
Probably too much to ask, but will the JX-08 also be able to act as a PG800 to program a JX8P?
May I ask Roland to make a boutique version of the JP8000?
That would be awesome, I am sure they will eventually
Minus the Delay glitch artefacts of the original. Then let it send the ARP pattern notes out to the MIDI DIN outputs so we can stack synths “live”.
That would be cool, but wouldn't it overlap too heavily with the FA, Fantom, grooveboxes, JD-Xi, and System-8? Juno-DS as well to a lesser extent. JP8k defines how Roland does Supersaws in all later synths, even the romplers.
@@Jason75913 since it’s an emulation of the old keyboard synth it could be ok , or add more features into it… I was thinking what would they came out with an XP80 like sequencer keyboard with stuff like JP8000, and a few other classic synths . So it works like a well … workstation/minidaw rompler. Saving patches and performances. Stuff of fantasy for now.
JX blew my mind
20 note Polyphony sold me.
JD-08 or JX-08?
@@elsongs missed that part. im guessing the jd. since the d05 i think has 16. I reckon the jx may have 4? and still 4 when it's in due?
The specs in Roland site says the sequencer has 4 note polyphony for these
I think it says on the website that the JD-08 has 20 voice polyphony, while the other is 128 voice
Edit: Roland responded to a comment on their CZcams video confirming 20 note poly for the JD-08!!!
Glad they got rid of those useless pitch/mod ribbons on the left side. They took up too much panel real estate.
lol "panel real estate"
and the stepped pitch bend in previous releases is fairly annoying
If the JX is two part multitimbral that means it’s basically like a JX-10.
Would be good if some of the other vst companies started releasing them in hardware form.
@@maccagrabme there have been attempts in the past with varying success. The Receptor and the Open Labs Neko come to mind. They face several challenges and keeping up with updates are hard. Arturia tried it early on with the Origin keyboard and module and I think they bit off more than they could chew at the time, though it featured the best keybed they've ever put in a synth.
@@maccagrabme I also forgot Creamware. They had the Noah (I think) as well as an assortment of dedicated tabletop units. They sounded great but were a bit buggy iirc. Personally, I'd like to see Roland go bigger with this stuff and make a tabletop unit of decent size with pro connections on the back.
Well thanks to Vst and Au adopting Arm more now due to Mac OS , I imagine we will see a much cheaper Vst hardware players soon .
Right
Hello, can i create a multisound ( 2 patches or more ) togheter ?
Hi Dustin. Eddie here in the UK again. Can you please tell me how to set all knobs - switches - and faders please to get the best Preset sounds ?
I've tried the Manual but this didn't really help as there are no recommended starting settings. ( Sorry Roland ).
My main problem is that all controls are at the lowest setting out of the box.
Kind Regards . . . Eddie.
JD 08 So beautiful!!!)
Does the JD-08 include any of the waveforms that were available from the SL-JD80 card library?
Unfortunately, it sounds like it only comes with the stock 108 JD-800 waveforms. None from the expansion cards, or the JD-990, which is a HUGE shame. Have additional waveforms would have GREATLY expanded this to new levels.
nice
Any possibility of a Jupiter 6? I had one many moons ago, but sold it which I'm kicking myself for doing that? I have the Jupiter 8 Boutique but a Jupiter 6 version would be sweet. Also at the 18:30 mark it sounded like a Madis song, very cool.
I can believe those that say this new JD-08 is missing some of the fullness and body of the original JD-800. I'm ok with that though since I'm more interested in it for its more icy sounds.
How do i change the octave shift in the jx08?
Great video, the jx08 looks like a great option for a portable polysynth. Also, I loved the series on the MC 707 that Dustin made 👌.
Sure is, and yes Dustin is one of the best presenters in the biz.
I looove the sound at 19:07. Does anyone know where I can find bands that play stuff like this? I've been listening to Synthwave and Vaporwave on Spotify. I also have a JX-8P which I've had since 2009.
Have you listened to Kebu? You might like that.
@@harveytherobot Thanks, let me check it out. I also just got an SH-101 so I can make this kind of thing a lot more easily with its sequencer.
My first reaction to these is "meh, it's just Roland's software emulations of old kit put into a hardware form".
Then I think on, and my second reaction is "YAY, it's Roland's software emulations of old kit put into a hardware form, with proper physical controls".
I want both.
How the JU-06a comperce to these in the topic of functionality?
can you control the JD800 cloud VST with the JD08?
does the glide works as legato on the jx-08 ? leaving one note pressed and pressing a new one slides to the new note?
Yes that's how the glide feature works.
Is there a chance the tr09 is coming back again?
Can i connect the jd08 via midi din so I can use it with a midi controller? I am not talking about USB midi I want to be able to use a proper midi controller and use this as a sound module with a yamaha sy22 synth?
Yes you can!
does the jd do the same thing with the dual arp as the jx?
thanks for the video. one question: will the jd-08 also be capable of controlling the jd-990 parameters like the jd-800?
The JD-08 does not work as a plug and play external controller for the JD-990.
@@longandmcquade thanks for the info.
Awesome video! really helped me learn the jd 08. Anyone know what would be a better choice, the jx 08 or ju 06? Can the jx do everything the ju 06 can?
The better choice is getting both! 😛 But we're a little biased. We'll let the community chime in and advise on which you should pull the trigger on first.
If you watched around the 43:00 mark and liked the "drum-machine-like" abilities of the JD-08 and you'd find that useful, that's what we'd recommend. In that section, the JX-08 is used for bass and pads. If you need/want that more than the percussive abilities of the JD-08, then you can start there.
What is the playable polyphony of these two units? (I’m seeing limited or incorrect info online - even Roland’s specs are unclear [on the jd-08 at least]).
128 for the JD 08. I don’t know for the JX
Roland has the coolest gear presenters
Hello, I've got a question: Can there more than one sequence be saved? Or only 1 with part A and B? Cheers
How can such small sliders have usable resolution?
This guy is good! Well I have the JX-08 0n its way but...now Im already wanting the JD-08 to go with it....this guy is good haha !!
The best!
@@longandmcquade He sure is !!
17:47 I can not stop hearing this sound in a loop
Please can you tell me this presets that exist in the device
Or a sound you created yourself?
(Of course you change it in real time
But does its base exist as presets?)
are they able to receive two different midi channels, one for each part? ok yes, answered at 49:27
Hi. Nice presentation video. Around 19:20 : is it an arpeggio or a sequence that can be heard ? :)
That is a sequence using both parts at once, one for chords and melody, and one for bass.
The Time Variance system Roland used on 90s digital synths like the D-50, JV1080 and so on was such a complicated bugger with an overwhelming number of controls. Must have been a real challenge to make it usable in Boutique format. Switching between TVA / TVF envelopes via a button on the right looks like a sensible compromise to squeeze it in there. Even so, those sliders look titchy.
Sliders at that size are easier to use than knobs IMO
@@AnUnseenRuler yeah and with these new boutiques the sliders are a better shape. I had the JP-08 and it wasn't just small sliders, they were really thin as well. These ones are a bit more chunky, which partly solves it.
@@mrbreaker101 I didn't mind the little faders, it's the lack of sonic mojo that gets me. The factory presets compare well with the Jupiter 8 but stepping away from those sounds it gets hard to come up with good sounds compared to other synths so my JP-08 is one of my least-used synths.
@@mrbreaker101 They’re probably the same thin sliders just with a wide cap on top
@Жан Клон yeah but sweet spots for a variety of modern sounds is way better on most or all later romplers after D-50, TVF/TVA/TV-pitch only get better with time, and they seem to be at their best in the newest Zen-core hardware and Zenology VST, though I prefer the pitch EGs on my FA-06 and Juno-DS keyboards over the Zen-core stuff like my MC-707.
Does the JX 08 accept midi cc messages?
