After pioneering the concept of Balkan clubbing with his now-legendary Bucovina Club parties and albums, after working his DJ voodoo around the world (and driving crowds to ecstatic bliss), after setting very high standards for dancefloor-oriented Gypsy music with his own seminal tracks and with his remixes of tracks by Mahala Rai Banda, Taraf de Haidouks & more...
...Shantel has now moved on to the next step with the fab Disko Partizani! album, which lays the groundwork for a new brand of pop music. This is the sound of new Europe, centered in the middle of our old continent, but incorporating vibrant influences from the emerging new frontier which stretches all the way to Mitteleuropa, the South East, Greece, Turkey and beyond...
Disko Partizani! sees Shantel successfully synthesizing his experiences as a producer, musician and DJ to create catchy, energetic and festive pop songs, full of hooks and surprises. The album features great performances by a host of musicians from southeast Europe and by Shantel himself, who also appears on lead vocals, gracing several tracks with an unexpected, elegant deadpan delivery.
Essay Recordings (Shantel's label) and Crammed have joined forces for this very special album, which will come out in early September 2007.
Shantel will be extensively touring with the Disko Partizani project, accompanied by his Bucovina Club Orkestar, a full 8-piece band.
Shantel, who started out as a respected electronica producer (with two albums out on Studio K7), has taken to the music of Eastern Europe following a trip to Bucovina, in search of his family roots. His Bucovina Club albums have earned him several awards (including a BBC World Music Award).
Stop press: Shantel has written the original music for "The Edge Of Heaven", the new Fatih Akin movie which just won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

he is Romanian born in Germany. not Turkish but his one the favorite country is Turkey because he spents so much time in Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum and Antalya etc.. if he makes 10 concerts in a year 5 of them are in Turkey. you can see his schedule on his official side. his albums half songs are also Turkish. we accepted him like one of us in Turkey :) cheers ;)

It was back in 2008 when I have spent the summer holidays with my girlfriend in Turkey. This song was played every evening. We got to know people from Russia and after all inclusive was over we continued to party with 20 people in our room: Drinking, music and just talking. Where have those times gone? 😢

Stefan Hantel, better known by his stage name Shantel (born January 1, 1968), is a German DJ and producer. He is known for his work with gypsy brass orchestras, DJing and remixing traditional Balkan music with electronic beats.Hantel is of Bukovina German descent. His grandparents on the maternal side were from the Romanian part of Bukovina.Shantel began his DJ career in Frankfurt, Germany, and was inspired by the audience reaction to gypsy brass bands such as Fanfare Ciocărlia and trumpeter Boban Marković to infuse electronically tweaked Balkan gypsy music into his DJ set. Shantel released two compilations of his popular DJ night, Bucovina Club, on his own Essay label, which won the Club Global award in the 2006 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music. He was one of several DJs to remix recordings of Taraf de Haïdouks and Kočani Orkestar on the Electric Gypsyland compilations from Belgium's Crammed Discs label, and released his next album on that label. He gained popularity in Turkey after recording the clip of 'Disko Partizani' in Istanbul.[2] Shantel's 2007 album Disko Partizani departed somewhat from the techno sound of Bucovina Club, concentrating more on the music's Balkan roots.
