The mele is NOT too bassy IMO. It's my favorite and I have plenty of iems. I often wonder if even a little more wouldn't of hurt.

A side by side shot for size comparison with the Mele/Olina body would be very useful for those of us considering another purchase. Just my 2 cents.
I wasn't planning on picking up another set at least until I heard more about the Maka but I never did pick up the Mele. This really did help show the difference between your sets and that shell? Low whistles. So sweet. Had to order a set. Store had a nice looking blue and gold cable too so why not 🍻

Those are beautiful, and I will definitely be picking up a pair later this year due to me really liking the Mele’s that you tuned. I got the Mele’s soon after finding your channel, and I honestly love them. Great for long sessions, and the bass guitar in rock, metal and country sounds perfect. Question though, I’m looking for a throw around pair of earbuds for mowing the lawn, dishes etc. Do you still recommend the VE Bonus IE at $20?

I've been playing around with these earphones the past week changing ear tips and listening to different dacs. They impress me more and more now that I have found really suitable ear tips. They are so good on all the dacs, detailed crazy good sound profile and just a joy to listen to all kinds of music and not just Black Sabbath. Malcom McLaren's Waltz, the whole album, just doesn't get any better. And this enormously great presentation comes from just a FiiO Q3 and the KAIs.
Listening to this on my new Kai's. Awesome and thank you. You're pretty much bang on to my taste of sound (that sounds weird said out loud :P). The build and fit for me is spot on just shy of actual custom moulds. Again, thank you for giving me what I wanted.

I’ve been waiting for your planar set Chris. But.....mmm......I’m VERY close to ordering this set. I have the MELE and Olina and love them both. Having an iem that takes elements from both sets sounds very appealing. And those shells on the KAI look amazing!

Hello HBB. Another Beautiful set at a stunning price! I'm still enjoying the Olina (with filter mod for the rear vent hole) The treble is now non-fatiguing and a delightfully immersive IEM for an incredible price. I can't imagine how much better the TRI X HBB KAI sounds. BTW 2 days ago i saw the 'HBB MAKA Coming Soon' on Linsoul. The system will Notify me once ready. You're definitely keeping yourself busy. Right now i'm saving up for a HIDIZS S9 Pro to increase my source quality. Keep it up man! For the Community By the Community!

Nice looking, graph looks good. Im going to try this set and i hope it plays my music library very well( it should we seem to enjoy, pretty much, the same music). Price seems decent. How would you say this separates the bass and drums in Sweet Leaf when compared to Mele?
I’m a big fan of Mele for chill listening, and seeing the graphs overlaid, it looks like this set would be a great all-rounder. Also, as someone who isn’t a fan of flashy gold, the design looks great. Glad the collab came together well for you.
Tad more sub bass and a tad less mid bass. The Kai plays the Sweet Leaf solo's best of the 2 because of that. The feedback you just gave of mele is common. great chill set, loses a little accuracy (can be too chill/smooth) This was made to fix that. better driver helps too. I am jamming "Go your own Way" fleetwood Mac as I type....now Silver spring is starting..

The mele had perfect bass. Treble extension was lacking though. Like upper treble mostly. Olina had Alot of shout stock without the mod but after adding the filter it's been appreciated and used plenty. I do use spring tips on the mele though and I have Heard people say that spring tips affect bass differently. Fit was the best on mele with spring tips and very light feeling. What's interesting is the Harman cut in mid bass and at first I thought is was better but after a while it becomes lacking in body and feels thin so I stopped trying to eq mid bass lol.
Yeah mele is too relaxing for some. Playing with midbass though takes note weight away ..right away. Glad you enjoy Olina post mod. Props to Redeyes/Shortbus

Nice set of iems. I just ordered a pair. I'll let you know how they turn out for me when I receive them. I ordered them mainly because of the sound profile to go with a couple of small dacs that don't really carry the bass that well. But now, you have inspired me to listen to the old Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep I used to listen to some 45 years ago. Looking forward to this.

I believe I have found one of the very best Bluetooth listening experiences that I can have for a decent amount of money. I am streaming from Spotify on my win10 computer. A FiiO BTA30 pro converts to LDAC Bluetooth. My receiver is an IKKO ITB03. This device has dual AK4377 dac chips and a RT6863 opamp. Now to the absolutely best surprise. The KAIs are delivering fantastic bass and crisp treble. All voices are clear. Drums are responding with great impact. It is just a huge joy to listen to if you don't expect anything better than what Bluetooth can deliver. This combo is just super. The only thing to complain about is the Bluetooth reach but that's another story.

What IEM under $100 would you recommend for RNB, EDM, City Pop, Soul, Jazz genres? I like some punchy low end that does not bleed into the mids, while not being too bright and fatiguing with forward mids, and good soundstage. Cymbal strikes from my CCA CRA are unbearable, while some vocals are too shouty, and sibilant and I would want an upgrade. I typically don't listen to tracks that are too slow, and laidback, and so I want an IEM that could make me bob my head 😅. Currently eyeing this, Truthear x Crinacle Zero, Tinhifi T3+, NF Audio NA3
Get the MELE or the KAI if you want a bit more detail retrieval. I’d just both if I didn’t have the MELE already.
Easily the best looking set. Definitely buying this one for the looks, even though i dont need a dd at this point

Hi HBB, sweet looking unit, would the fit be more like the T3+ body style (with nozzle tilted slightly forward) or the Aria (nozzle more right angled)?
Checking before purchase cos the Aria is less comfy because I have a more "closed" Tragus.

KAI looks to have the nozzle pointed forward as all sets should have for proper fit. Right angle nozzles do not work on my ears either.
@@Assimilator702 thanks! glad to know. I've found that even a slight tilt forward results in significant improvement to fit security.
@@KelvinKamsg If you think about it the nozzle also needs an upward trajectory. My ear canal is roughly a 45 degree angle pointing towards my eye. I always twist the body of the iem back to get that forward/upward angle. So once the tip seals the body should fit comfortably in my outer ear.

The HBB Maka is actually an incoming $35 replacement for the Mele which is why you see just that. I say check Amazon and other sites if you want to try and find a pair, though I suspect that the Maka is going to be the superiorly made iem.

Looking at the graph quickly reminds me of 03. So I checked your squiqlink and saw some of my gripes with 03 got rectified. Mid-bass hump and 5k peak. This might be the 03 upgrade I've been waiting for. (praying this is it 🙏)

I think that the Thieaudio Elixir is in trouble. Looking at the graft comparisons on the Kai and Elixir,they look very close or similar. For a $130 difference,I’ll take the Kai, and the fit and looks are better! Got in the contest and hope I win (Ha Ha). Good review.
For fitting, can anybody describe it how different it with mele? Coz imo for my ear (especially my left ear), mele somehow too small n really hurt my ear n cant seal well...

Received the set today, cable is terrible swapped it within the hour for a tripowin cable. Wide bore tips are perfect and so is the sound, i can't really pinpoint it but i think it is a bit softer then the t3+ which makes it a more relaxed listening. Are the stock wide bore tips whizzer tips?
After letting de stock cable hang with the iems for weight at night it's a lot better

Got my set of Kai’s in yesterday and I love them. Kudos to TRI and HBB for putting out a “character” iem set like the Kai in a flood of neutral tuned iems dumped on the consumer market in the last 2-3 months.

The Kai looks sharp, fits well, sounds good….very nice job on the tuning Chris! There is some very stiff competition against the Kai’s in this $70-$80 range…you know who the competitors are without me naming them. However, I think the kai will be right there with the best and its tuning will keep it there. No shit man, hours of listening with no fatigue at all! Long jam sessions indeed. I like them brother, but, in the words of Columbo….”eh, just one more question” Chris…do you with your kai sets or have you heard anyone say anything at all about damn irritating ‘driver flex’? My set, unfortunately, has it quite bad. The right more so than the left but its moderate in both sides. Changing tips has no effect on the flex(my go to tips-final type e or spinfit cp145). Makes no sense that these iems should have driver flex as they have 2 vents or ports that should be enough. Just curious if you have or have heard about any flex with the kai’s. Still a great set for 80 bucks brother!
Hey, how does it compare to the Tin t3 plus? That's the one I was considering buying at that price range. But if the Kai is just as good and looking this good then I'm definitely getting the Kai

That's a matter of personal opinion really since everyone has their own sound preferences. That being said I own the Kai's and love them. Before them the Mele's were my favorite and I always hesitated to go for the Olina's since they looked like there might not be enough in the bass to mid-bass region for me to enjoy them enough. Then when the Kai's looked like a happy middle ground between the Mele's and the Olina's tuning I placed my bet and didn't regret it one bit! 😄

been about a month and i do really enjoy them however they put a little too much pressure on my concha making them uncomfortable after a short while, but i think you really did a great job tuning this set.

[umm no] …pretty thin sounding, though it fits nice. I was hoping for something a little calmer in the upper mids than IKKO oH 10, which always is trying to slip out of my ears. Is there something that would be similar though a little less bright than the IKKO?
I'm trying to see how they could come off as sounding thin at all but I can't. That being said if do you have a good seal between your tips and ear canal? Outside of that I can't imagine how they could sound thin other than having a faulty set. Have you tried the Mele's?
@@speedy2davey thanks for the note. I did open them up again and tried foam tips, and yes the bass is good. The upper end is not as expansive and complex as the OH10, but vocals are smoother on Paul Simon’s Graceland record. I do like the Kato more than the Ostry KC09 or Final E3000, especially in the mids and highs.
Would the mele offer smoother vocals than the OH 10? I guess I’m looking for an upgrade but with calmer upper mid‘s. I thought the hook-X or Thieaudio elixir might work but those might not be better for my odd hearing.
@@joefilter2923 oh yeah I definitely think you'll find them smoother, even with voices that are naturally shrill sounding they won't tear your eardrums up. Depending on your budget constraints I would even recommend the Kai's which are my first favorite in front of the Mele's because that awesome middle ground tuning between the Olina's and the Mele's while still sounding around as smooth in the vocals as them. 😎
