I broke the bulb beneath this microwave and couldn't get the bulb's socket out. I figured it would be simple enough to drop the bottom but I didn't want to unscrew those 500 screws unless I saw someone else do it first and knew what was back there. From there it was easy to unscrew the light socket and, using needle-nosed pliers, unscrew the bulb socket. Now I can replace the bulb and stop having to get yelled at about it. Thank you so much!

Problem-Intermittently magnetron would not start, with a door close error. Open, close door a few times allowed it to start. Then it was just door close error all the time. Thank you for the video! You gave me the muster in disassembling the door interlocks with just a few hours before having to get ready for a three day work stent. Large family really missed having a microwave!! I was figuring I would have to dismount the whole oven before your video. The actual disassembly was very straight forward. In my case all the parts were functional. What I found was that each of the interlocks are held in place by a single screw and a sheet metal tab from the cabinet frame. Repeated use of the door bent one of the tabs, so that the interlock tilted enough, the bottom switches did not all change state. Bent the tabs back into a suitable position, problem solved. Work time about 40 minutes. Thanks again!

Need philips head style screwdriver, ohm/continuity meter and torx head bit set for this disassembly (Walmart multibitset $10, can now disassemble pretty much any appliance..loving it!! lol .... 1) Unplug unit. 2) Check MW door to insure the two male interlock tabs are intact (each has an intact hole at end) 3) Remove the two screws holding top plastic grate outside, above door, top of microwave. Lift out grate. 4) right side top, remove single screw holding control panel. 5) Caution: panel has several very short travel, wire bundles with connectors that need to be disconnected before panel is fully removed. While the connectors are different sizes minimizing wrong connections, may be prudent for the less brave to take cell phone pics of still connected panel back before disconnection. With MW door open, dismount control panel by sliding control frame up and away from MW. Connected wire will allow just a few inches of travel, granting enough access to carefully unplug connections. Connectors have lock tabs on one side that need to be squeezed to separate connector. There is also, two slip on wire terminations, slide blue connector insulation up wire to expose, I then carefully pry off connector using knife blade edge. Detach ground wire at cabinet. 6) Use torx bit to remove the top or bottom interlock assembly (lower/upper door switch) one at a time. Switch is held in position by one screw and a foldover sheet metal tab from cabinet. Suggest testing one switch at a time. (spring on each switch looks oddly placed, but if each spring leg end is connected, is probably ok looped coil is not pinned to anything) 7)To test... switch with two wires - disconnect one wire, check for state change (open/close circuit) across switch with switch button using ohm meter... switch with three wires - disconnect comm wire (center wire, check side of individual switched for pin function layout) check for state change (open/close circuit) across each side of switch with switch button using ohm meter. Check white plastic claw on interlock. Check tabs that press switch buttons to insure they depress switch buttons when in correct travel position. The claw grabs the MW door tab and that limits the amount of travel this spring loaded assembly travels. I used a bit to hold the claw from over traveling the switch buttons while testing. Replace switches that do not change state. Replace interlocks that have broken tabs or spring mounts. 8). Remount interconnector once finished testing. In my case the sheet metal tab had bent out of the holding position and allowed the interconnector to engage but tilt, not actuating the switch buttons. 9) Once satisfied with interlock results, connect wires, mount them. Open and close door several times to insure proper closure. 10) reconnect control panel connectors.. don't forget the ground wire 11) Remount control panel and screw down. 12) Plug in and check if problem solved. 13) Solved - screw down top grill. 14) Still error - see step two... good luck, yes I have lots of free time..lol

Great video. My microwave started shooting sparks above the instrument panel. I replaced the diode and it’s as good as new (except greasier)!

I appreciate you all for creating this wonderful video. It made doing what the home warranty company said would not be worth paying someone to do very easy. They'd rather just replace the unit that needs a small fan repair.

So I had some sparking coming from the top of mine.. If you pause at 2:36 mark.. the small capacitor (?) on the small wire next to/below that thicker braided insulated white wire is burnt out. It was touching that white wire so the insulation on that one is a little burnt too. Can these wires be replaced?

"With 2~3-speed motor, Hot voltage connects to main winding at different points. Only 1 point at a time receives power. That's what the switch does. When voltage is applied to each point, the main winding is energized as voltage from Black Hot wire completes circuit with White neutral wire." I would imagine there is a connection issue with "point 2".

🆘 Customers need to think twice before buying the Whirlpool microwave- wmh53521hz-5. When the light won’t shut off the only way to fix it is to buy a new motherboard, and they range in price from $156 to over $300 online plus tax & shipping. Also $150 for service call to install it. And it’s an inherent problem in this Whirlpool model. You can buy a new microwave for $450 or pay that much for repairs or buy an LED stick up under cabinet lights for $12 to $18 as a alternative solution.
