    Great video. Just wanted to add that I just had the valley plate fixed on my LS460. It also is an issue with other models with the 4.6 engine so it's not iso to just the IS F which I know has a different V8 but it's a common issue across the board.

    Great job with the video on identifying quite a few issues with our cars! A few more would be the window rubber molding that covers the chrome trim on the sides lifts up and degrades, requiring replacement semi-often. Also the roof moldings often get pre-mature paint fade and you end up needing to replace them (they come painted to match). Also the trunk buttons melt which requires replacement. Two interior pieces I can think of that wear prematurely in my opinion after seeing so many of these cars come through the dealer are the steering wheels and shift knobs wearing out. Two noise concerns often had are noises when going over bumps from the sunroof- which requires an adjustment and change of the sunroof seal, also a squeal when in manual mode shifting hard from 1-2-3, which is the drive belt that needs to get changed out (they go through them relatively fast, 60-80k miles). Shifter plastic covers also commonly break. One more final thing that some owners have issues with is a intermittent airbag light on, or just straight up a airbag light on the dash, without having had any accidents. There is a warranty enhancement for replacement of the driver side knee airbag inflator connector. I read through all comments and didn’t see these so wanted to add my 2 pennies !

    • @ISFASTER

    • @IainFraser81
      @IainFraser81 Před 2 lety

      @@newera8388 yes I ended up getting one and this video was very helpful because it prompted me to find a car without these issues. Valley plate was done, control arm bushings replaced, etc. The subwoofer was actually missing from my car but I've replaced it with an aftermarket unit that sounds great. The car itself: I absolutely love it and everything they say is true (good and bad). It's fast, it's fun, it sounds great, feels great to drive - however she takes a while to "wake up" if you're driving normally and then put your foot down, and you do have to be driving it hard to get the fun noises... but for me, that's what makes it such a solid car to drive: all play when it's time to play, but sedate and undramatic when you're just cruising in traffic (except for the exhaust rumble that's there as a constant reminder it's not an IS250)

    • @IainFraser81
      @IainFraser81 Před 2 lety

      Ha! That said, I got smoked at the lights by a VW Golf R the other day. Apparently they took the rumble as a sign I wanted to race (I didn't), so I was in full auto non-sport and took off normally until I saw it "was on" so to speak. But the "F" was like "oh hey human, I got your throttle input, but I can tell you probably only want to go a little bit faster... oh okay, a bit more? How about that? Still not enough? Oh, shit sorry, I got you now fam.. BAAAAAAARRRRM" by which time it was all over. So if you want the taps on at a moments notice, you have to either floor it from the get-go or be in full manual.

      @@IainFraser81How did you find one? What was your methodology? I am looking for one

    • @IainFraser81
      @IainFraser81 Před rokem

      @@Symphoniics I'm in Australia, so it was really just monitoring CarSales. I'd gone to a few dealerships, and even Lexus itself, and left my name with them in case one came up. They all said the same thing: best of luck, if you can find one, buy it! So I resigned myself to the fact I wasn't going to get one locally so I'd have to ship it from interstate. That means I was going to have to buy it sight unseen, which added some complexity:
      For me, that meant the car must not be under any kind of finance (because I can't go to the bank with the guy to make sure he uses my money to clear his loan). I have to have someone trustworthy look it over and take it for a drive. I'll have to get it shipped. And I'll have to get it registered and complianced in my state when it arrives.
      I really took my time following a lot of ISFs to see how much the seller usually has to drop the price before it sells: seeing where the market actually is, rather than what everyone's asking price is, so I know what the market really supports when I make an offer.
      Because of my rule about finance, I had to let one or two "perfect" cars go, but that's okay. I eventually made an offer on a white MY10.
      There's a great company running out of Queensland who are set up to find classic cars. They do a full inspection with photos, take it for a test drive and give you their recommendation on if you should buy it. They can also be there in person to handle the sale and take possession of the vehicle and ship it to you. Thankfully they also do sports and luxury cars, so they were fine looking at the F. They weren't especially cheap, but their service was great and it made the whole thing much safer.
      In my case, the big cross-country railway was flooded out, so my car had to be LITERALLY shipped, which again added to the cost. But the first time I saw the car for myself was when it rolled off the truck into my driveway. And it's been great!
      All that additional stuff added about 5-6000 Australian dollars to the price, but I had my heart set on an ISF so I gritted my teeth and paid it.
      I have had one setback in the year I've owned it: the starter motor died. That is a ridiculously expensive thing to fix. If you're looking for an ISF, try to make sure your exhaust headers aren't cracked in "the usual place" because the heat off that big V8 can cook your starter motor. That's what happened to me.
      Best of luck in your search!

    IIRC the coolant leaks were really only prevalent on 2009 and earlier models. Toyota had a bad batch of sealant or something company-wide. The Tundra engines get coolant leaks as well in those years. Haven’t looked into other engines.

    • @ISFASTER
      @ISFASTER  Před 5 lety +1

      I’ve seen/heard of it happening to 2010+ models as well, may just seem like the 08-09s are more affected because those two years account for over 50% of ISFs sold.

    Additionlly to usual faults (valley plate leak, cracked headers, starter problems etc) I guess we can add radiators that blow up to the list! Had mine fckd yesterday. 115 000km on the clock only, mint condition car. Luckily I catched it just as it started leaking after seeing fresh fluid under a car on shopping mall parking lot close to home. Pulled it out today and it's a major PITA for something that should be simple radiator replacement. Of course, never heard of this issue on them or had any car in generally that would have radiator fail so soon. Yet, one google search later reveals it's super common on them around that mileage. If your has more and it was never changed, you are running on a borrowed time. New oem one is up to 1000$, depends where you are. Full aluminums are like 2-3x more than for other cars for some reason (1000-1800$ here in Japan). I've uncrimped and removed top tank and surely enough it is cracked around inlet hose area where it's the hotest and whole plastic has became brittle.

    Another issue worth mentioning that I have experienced and have heard from other owners, is a clicking noise on the front end when backing up. On mine it's just a quick click noise on drivers side front end, then immediatley goes away once car is moving. Possibly worn ball joint ?

    rearward front lca bushing tends to go soft. but the inner tire wear is more related to camber change during suspension travel while track driving... I definitely destroyed my inner tires driving really hard, even with rearward lca bushings. The suggested camber adjustment fix is probably the best way to fully fix this. also getting stiffer sidewall tires seems to help quite a bit.
    the valley plate leak is caused by the corrosive coolant eating away at the FIPG, I did mine with permatex "The Right Stuff" still good 2 years later. The example you showed where its dripping down is an EXTREME example. Easier way to check is using a borescope. Run it down near the PCV hose and you should be able to see the red crusty stuff if you have the leak.
    Also, when performing the vally plate reseal. be REALLY CAREFUL with the direct injectors.... I believe there is a harness connector towards the rear, it may be easier to literally remove the injectors without unplugging them then shattering the DI injectors they are very brittle. also be careful that you do not roll the o-ring on the bridge pipe during installation, you may need a mirror or borescope or something to verify it is not rolled (you should be able to see it in the gap) it may be helpful to dip the oring in coolant as it can act as a lubricant, also get a new one from the dealership they are cheap and typically the old one is stretched in comparison to a new one increasing chances of rolling the ring.

It stopped the air to go in so there was an instant power cut at 5500 rpm. All good! When you guys get the aftermarket intake, do think about the silicone ones since it would get old and weak.
