  • showing what seems to be a common issue for the hyundai or kia 2.7l engine with system lean at idle codes..also a system rich code that i believe could be linked to the failure.

    This was exactly what was wrong with my car. Followed your instructions (had to go pick up a pair of long needle-nose pliers at Harbor Freight) and the numbers behaved exactly the same way. Thanks for saving me a lot of money. Subscribed!

    Nice video. "Purge" is normally closed and "vent" is normally open. Therefore, when purge sticks open, vacuum leak because vent is open. Rich condition will develop at start-up (build up of fuel vapors) converts to lean condition as engine runs (drawing only atmosphere).

    • @jamesdanner7850
      @jamesdanner7850  Před 9 lety

      Yea. In hindsight I should have looked to see if freeze frame data showed the rich conditions at colder engine temps. Good thinking...thanks

      @BigMac2222 Před 8 lety +1

      +johnwrench4speed Vent is only open during key off though, it closes during key on or run. The lean condition came from a bypass valve built in to the gas cap opening when the vacuum in the tank gets too strong.

    • @johnwrench4speed
      @johnwrench4speed Před 8 lety +1

      +Derrick Hodges The vent, or as Hyundai describes it Canister Close Valve (CCV), and as described in ALLDATA:
      "The Canister Close Valve (CCV) is located between canister and fuel tank air filter. It closes off the air inlet to the canister for the Evaporative Emissions System leak detection inspection function and also prevents fuel vapors from escaping from the Canister when the vehicle is not operating."
      Therefore, in order for fuel to be drawn from the fuel tank during engine operation, the vent has to be open.

    • @BigMac2222
      @BigMac2222 Před 8 lety +1

      johnwrench4speed Looks like basic CVV operation. However, an open vent is not the only means for air to enter a tank. Nearly all vehicles that still use gas caps have a vacuum bypass valve built in to keep the tank from imploding under too high vacuum scenarios. If that bypass valve is stuck open air will enter the tank even with a perfectly functioning vent/purge system.

    Nice job as usual, James. I have seen a lot of purge solenoid problems with Hyundai cars. Usually hard start and poor run after filling the fuel tank. Sometimes I think those cars are completely built with Dorman parts. {:-)

    fixed many kia's and Hyundai 's with the same codes, some do have issues with the canister coming apart and clogging the purge valve. I have had several 4 cyl. that would stall in the am running very rich from an over saturated canister too.

    • @jamesdanner7850
      @jamesdanner7850  Před 8 lety +2

      Ok. That's good to know. One of the complaints on this car was running poorly and stalling but I never experienced it in the shop. Seems like the rich issue is happening cold or long soak time

      This is not weird There is not enough information her to explain what is needed to believe.We all have sinned and come short of the glory of god. This does not mean we are horrible nasty people, just not as perfect aa God. We have not kept all of God's law.. God sent Jesus to do for us what we can not do for ourselves, pay for sin. He lived totally sin free, allowed men to do all the horrible things to him that the did, hang him on a cross to. He was buried, and third day rose from the dead, Proving he did not lie. It is finished. For God so loved you that He gave his only begotten Son , that when you believe in him, you shall not perish, but have everlasting life. The gift is your's believe it.

    Why not clear the codes?

    • @jamesdanner7850
      @jamesdanner7850  Před 8 lety +2

      The way pa emissions is set up, check engine light has to be off and all readiness monitors ready or complete. (all but one) to pass. If I cleared the codes ,the monitors go not ready or incomplete . The result of a test after that is "NOT READY FOR TESTING" I needed to issue a sticker that day so my option is to issue a waiver sticker. That's qualified by spending more than $150 towards the cause of failure. But I need an initial test fail and an after repairs test fail ,where I enter the repair data. A not ready test won't let me enter data ,so I can't get waiver approval from state . I usually clear the codes after the waiver is approved
