The Hyundai Kia PCV Valve Location and Replacing It

  • Let's locate and find the hidden Hyundai Kia PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve and replace it on a 2013 Hyundai 3.3L Santa Fe. The PCV is designed to release pressure inside the engine block. It also has emission reducing qualities. The details on how to locate and replace the valve are fairly simple once you know where it is located. Thanks for stopping by the Ozzstar's Cars cannel. -Glen (Ozz)

    A lot of people are asking about the PCV and oil burning. It is a possible scenario as well as a clogged air filter. All related to high manifold vacuum operation. Which is very light throttle, steady highway driving or idling. I believe that the catalytic converter will vaporize some oil so you may not see it or smell it. This could be the only way my Kia will go through a quart in 400 miles of 75 mph driving. No drips, bone dry underneath, no smoke that I can see, no smell.

    Thanks for the informative video. Today's modern engines require a functioning PCV valve more than I realized, I ordered the part and am installing it this weekend. I changed the spark plugs,coils and intake manifold gasket in my 2014 Sorento 3.3 V6 six months ago but I didn't realize that the PCV valve was located under the throttle body. Shucks,now I have to go through the whole process of removing the air box,wire harnesses,hoses and throttle body again to install the new valve. I'll change the air filter and throttle body gasket while I have the it all apart again too. Nevertheless I was lucky to come across this video. Two thumbs up Glen!

    Thanks for the great video! It is very informative. I am requesting you make a video showing how to use CRC GDI Intake Valve and Turbo Cleaner (or your favorite product) through the PVC intake hose. A Hyundai tech on a different thread stated "Just need to find a vacuum hose(I used the PCV intake hose) and spray in bursts until the can is empty with a helper in the car holding the revs at 2k RPM". Yet another tech stated " We have a cleaner that we run through the injectors via the inlet at the high pressure pump as well as a spray that goes into the intake to clean the throttle body and the intake valves". Curious how you would go about performing this service, considering there are so many different opinions. Thank you!

    Now I am mad, did not know the valve was there. I decided to do the plugs (can you imagine what the dealer charges for that?), which, as you mentioned, includes removing the battery, airbox, manifold (and manifold gasket), hoses, connectors etc, and I though, man, one of those coil packs in the back go bad, I am doing this all over again (the front are easy to get to). So, I changed the coil packs while there.
    If I would have known the PVC valve was there, I would have spent the 12 bucks to change that too.
    The good news is I don't have to take the manifold off to change this valve.

    When you are reassembling, do you have what the torque settings are for the four bolts holding the throttle body? I've looked for days and can't find them. I'm replacing the PCV valve on a 2019 Kia Sorento 3.3L. On another note, I was browsing your videos about Corvettes just for fun. I restored a 71, body on, then found a 70 LT1 that I spent ten years searching for number correct parts, did a full off frame restoration breaking down every nut and bolt and rebuilding everything to NCRS spec, I have to say in all honesty about the C3's, they really were a bucket of bolts, beautiful styling but still a Detroit bucket of bolts. On the upside, I had an '84 that everyone cussed for the crossfire fuel injection, but I did mostly highway miles and had 313,000 on it when I sold it running great and that crossfire never gave a bit of problem.

    • @ozzstars_cars
      @ozzstars_cars  Před 5 měsíci

      313k miles on that crossfire has to be a record! I don't know the exact throttle body bolt torque specs for your Kia but I go two ugga duggas and have never had a problem. Btw, early C3's are my favorite classic Corvette, for the styling and simplicity. Thanks for your comment. -Glen (Ozz)

    Hello, this video on replacing a spark plug and the one on the oil pressure switch were both incredibly helpful to me socially. However, I had a problem that needs your assistance to be resolved.
    I followed your instructions to change the oil pressure switch on my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe, but when I got to the last step, I hammered a little too hard and a piece of the aluminum threaded housing broke off.
    It was actually my fault; I had seen another video in which the mechanic was hammering, but since it was my first time, I was unable to perform the final step correctly and felt as though I had missed everything.
    I couldn't believe how quickly I disassembled those pieces of parts until I got to the underneath oil pressure switch. However, there wasn't enough room to turn the switch, which forced me to look at other videos to find the best solution for my circumstances.
    What is the best way to fix this switch holder and re-tap it again, I wonder.
    Also, please send me the steps I need to take in order to disassemble the metal coolant pipe so I can decide whether to use cold or hot welding on that portion.
    I value your prompt response.

    • @user-mp1xo7wu5b
      @user-mp1xo7wu5b Před rokem

      @@ozzstars_cars Yes, Oil Catch Can is a little attractive way to deal with oil flying into the DPF. Moreover, at first glance it seems that you don’t have to worry at all, the oil after DPF regeneration will leave behind only a small fraction of the original weight / volume, ~% 0.8 ash. That is, the DPF will fill with oil ash for a long time.
      However, before regeneration occurs, between DPF burns, unburned oil will occupy a large volume in the DPF itself, increasing the frequency of regeneration. And the maximum amount of soot in the regeneration cycle for Hyundai is very small 17g (and even less than 17-3.88g). Such a situation may occur that the burns will take place every 50-100 km. Am I wrong (?) and what should I do in this case?

    On my 2012 Hyundai Accent, it is burning too much oil. Like it is under the minimum after 1000 miles. There are no leaks around. Engine is 1.6L (not turbo). So, it is obviously burning it somewhere. Is it possible that I'm losing so much oil because of the PCV valve? Car has 65,000 miles.

    • @ozzstars_cars
      @ozzstars_cars  Před rokem

      Anything is possible. Compression test. Cylinder leak down test. Check for worn out piston rings or leaky valve seals. Good luck.

      I'm so curious if you replaced this and if it resolved that sound for you? I've been having the same and Googled everything I can think of and can't quite find the problem. I get a rumbling/growl intermittently but only at idle, park or real low acceleration. Seems once it's moving I don't have it. Mines a 2017 hyundai santa fe but I'm wondering if this would be a fix.

    • @chadg6874
      @chadg6874 Před rokem

      @@cuppscraps hey there! Well as it turns out, the problem appeared to be caused by going too long between oil changes. We were off by a whole year in our memory of when the last oil change was and realized it had gone 23,000 miles since then! It wasn't soup yet but definitely burned old oil and I'm sure there was sludge. I noticed the dipstick had crusty burned oil all over it that was very hard to get off... So I'm sure that same stuff was all over the inside of the engine, causing problems. What I ended up doing, first, changing the oil, then immediately adding seafoam to new oil, ran it 300 miles, changed oil again. I also used seafoam spray through the throttle body. And do new plugs. That seemed to help. I never got around to changing the pcv but the little tune up above seemed to help. Unfortunately the Kia was totalled after I got sideswiped by an uninsured a-hole at 80mph.. so we will never know how much life the engine had left

      @@chadg6874 oh no!! 😣 but thanks for the reply, that gives me some things to try regardless once I read up on the seafoam and a couple other things I was going to do (sparkplugs) seems either can't hurt to start. Thanks!

I even contacted the corporate offices and asked about the huge lawsuit that pertains to the issue but they said there's nothing they can do. We talked to a lawyer and of course they want money to forward letters to hyundai Corp. Its a nightmare and I wouldn't buy a hyundai or a Kia if you give me one for free.
