    SMPTE 2110 gear at this price point is insane. I'm working in theatre/opera/liveAV. We tested Riedel Mediornet IP as we were looking in IP based video and it's great but just too expensive, but this makes SMPTE 2110 a real competitor to SDVoE pricewise for our needs.
    Great job Blackmagic!
    (Sfp instead of just RJ45 would have been even better)

      The 2110 products are the most exciting of anything they announced this week.

    The updated scopes / rack monitors mentioned in your wish list video would be great, in addition to being able to more easily match colour between their cameras, especially for live use. The lens options available for their studio cameras are "interesting". I agree that most 4k users would usually need more than 8 inputs, with 2 M/E as a minimum. But it is great to see new 4k switchers and products. No doubt they'll be more new products in time, but they may not be what we're hanging going out for.

      "IP baseband" is an oxymoron. SDI is baseband, but IP video is not. MPEG, H264, HEVC, RF are not baseband either.

    I’m still waiting for a replacement for the micro cinema/broadcast cameras, they’re perfect for my workflow but they’re getting pretty old.
    I’m intrigued by 2110, I’ve worked a lot with ndi, but it’s mostly useful working with cameras and software that support it so I guess 2110 is a pretty different workflow

    The new ENG kit is amazing and it's only $245. It's now listed. I have been always worried about those holes on the top but I don't like to put the camera in a "bag". Last time I just wrapped the whole camera in plastic wrap.
    Sadly no firmware update but I'm pretty sure they'll add at least that BRAW stills feature to the BG2 too, if not the vertical video feature. Hopefully they'll finally fix some of the bugs too.

    Hi Doug, thanks for being such a great source of info on broadcast and broadcast related hardware. I was wondering if you could explain why anyone would choose the ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K over spending a little bit more for the constellation 4K. Are there any advantages to choosing the older 4K model? It seems the constellation is better in every way yet Blackmagic continues to keep the Production/Broadcast line of switchers running along side their constellation line.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před 8 měsíci

      There aren't a lot of a reasons these days. The older model does have a few features not present on the Constellation:
      * Borders around SuperSource windows
      * Rotatable DVE (you can rotate the video in a window at an arbitrary angle)
      * Timecode connections
      The other thing is reliability. The older models are built like tanks and just work for forever. The Constellations... not quite so much. They've been a bit of a problematic product line. I see people posting online all the time that theirs is acting up or has just died.
      But aside from that, the Constellations are a lot more fully-featured and offer a lot more capabilities... the main one being frame rate converters and scalers on the inputs.

    Have to say I have issues with bm product policy … they have some nice toys in the entry sector and on the high end but the middle ground is quite lacking some stuff.
    Mixer wir approx 20 inputs - dedicated iso recorder - good video playback (playlists etc and alpha) and a real replay system for the lower tier with good interface

  • @Digital-Michigan

    Did you say that 8 program outs can now be used as a aux like the constellation can? Looking at the website it says its for connecting to other cameras. I see that there is a aux 1 and aux 2 on the back the of the switcher but for the love of all things holy please blackmagic just give me more aux outs on the TV studios. Its really easy to toss a aja 1 x 6 da anywhere for program out or link multiple TVs or projectors with a couple of decimators, what I need is a couple more aux outs!!!!

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před rokem

      At least for now, the routable aux outputs are specific to the 4K model. Who knows if they can/will change that on the HD model.

    Blackmagic Cloud Dock is interesting but from what I can tell there's no cheap way to use it. It's Hyperdeck extreme or a whole switcher. Would be nice to have an SDI to Clouddock recorder converter that just does SDI to IP. Would get us close to external ISO recording

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před rokem +1

      The 4K version does not have Isolated recording. And from Grant’s comments in the introduction video, it sounds like they won’t ever produce a product that does that. He indicated that the cost, computation power, and heat prevent it from happening.

    • @doveshouse
      @doveshouse Před rokem +1

      @@djp_video yes yes... Seems reasonable understandable. I just wish there was a device that could simply take multiple SDI outputs, leave it in whatever format it is coming out, and simply connected via fiber to my (raid) NAS, which is capable of writing up to five 4k streams simultaneously. Then all the files from a single live show could be in the same file folder on my NAS, and I wouldn't have to deal with a gazillion hyperdecks and FTP-ing them (corralling them all) to my NAS. Ten minutes after my Livestream ends, I just want all 4k files and audio to be in one file folder and ready for a post Livestream high quality edit!!!!!

    It is a shame how the term ‘cloud’ has been used by vendors in their marketing and naming of products or services. It has no meaning now. Everything is cloud!
    This is another data point. Blackmagic uses the term to describe storage on a network. The term causes much confusion.
