Great tip with the bag. They use to sell a dry cleaning bag years ago. I tried to find it recently but couldn’t. So glad you suggested just a regular bag. Easy peasy!

Let me tell you something----if you have ever bought anything from anywhere be it a store or online resold clothes---WASH THEM before you wear them. I don't fault any seller for sending them with a dryer sheet or febreezed because they are just trying to make some money in this world. But to be shocked that someone didn't run them through the wash...like really? Even if you got them from a rack in a store, you don't know how many dirty people tried them on before you got them or if it was a return by someone who wore it. So the lesson is, if you buy clothes, wash before they touch your body. My PSA is over.

Banyo there is a You Tube video from a girl who used to work at Goodwill. After her video you will (a) want to puke; and (b) never look at Goodwill/thrift store clothing the same again. 🤢

@@kimberlys2851 Oh believe, I saw it a few months ago. I thrift all the time as my side job and I have a whole container of wet wipes in my car which I wash my hands down with after a trip to the thrift, and they are disturbingly brown every time. I've seen trailers where clothes are housed while they wait to be put out. There isn't enough piped in perfume floating through these buildings to hide the smell lurking betwixt the fabrics----I KNOW! This is precisely why one should NEVER assume clothes they receive that are used are washed or that a seller has washed them or that even straight from the store itself---whether Nordstrom or Goodwill, that the clothes are free from all manner of disgusting fair. You just don't know. For the love of good googly moogly, wash everything!!!!

Thanks, appreciate this. I make and sell handmade knitwear. I was totally bummed out after hours of work to notice an odor after storing items in a plastic storage tub in a climate controlled, smoke free area of my home. Very psyched to use your method. Hope it works!!

I throw the fabric sheet in the dryer with the shirt. is will keep the shirt from wrinkling and heat the dryer sheet smell in. I've done this for YEARS and it works magic! You're welcome!

@@sourcedfromparadise8368 they don't. I lay them out when they are warm and let them cool down so they are flat again if they curl. You don't have to tumble them too long. Just enough to heat the garment up and get the smell of the dryer sheet warmed in :)

I saw a video which I really enjoyed it's called Gentleman's Gazette Preston schlueter if I'm not mistaken he said by spraying vodka on the item and letting it dry that will remove the musty smell I'm going to try that. I think the vodka smell goes away once it dries then I would wash it after if it didn't have tags. I recommend watching his video and you decide. The dryer sheet is good but as long as you use a mild sent just like you recommend 👍

Hi. If it's seriously nasty, I would try hand-washing in Woolite (label should say for handwashing/delicates)...keeping that tag out of the water...rinsing then air-drying. It's really good for getting moldy/musty smells out.

I just got some vintage clothes with tags still on them. I'm thinking about protecting the tag in a little jewelry ziplock baggie and hand wash the clothes but I'm scared to make a move. They smell like old dusty house. Those dryer sheets are not safe though. I try to use non harmful, chemical free products because I don't want to take a chance on breathing in or touching something that might be dangerous for the body. What about a steamer? Are those easy to use?

A few thing that’s worked for getting that old smell out is to hang it outside in the sun, ozone machine, and lightly misting wool with vodka (who knew).
