  • We decided to take project Vivaro's EGR valve out and clean it, whilst it was out I wanted to find out how easy it was to delete and if it run ok like it.
    Here is what we did.

    I have to warn you that I have no formal automotive training, and have just learned by breaking stuff. If you can learn anything from my mistakes then great, but you do so at your own risk!

    Excellent video - Thankyou! - I am not a mechanic but this job looked pretty straight forward as the only fluid involved is the cleaning fluid :-) I gave it a go. My EGR was really clogged up and after a thorough clean it's back in and working so much better. From start to finish it took me 2h20mins as a novice.. Local workshop was going to charge me €600...so Thankyou for sharing!

    Interesting about your and others comments regarding any difference in feel. I blanked off my EGR on an 01 VW T4 2.5 TDi and had a huge reduction in turbo lag. It felt slower as there was no surge at 1800rpm but pulled smoothly throughout the rev range

    Really need to poke the hole behind the Egr valve that goes to the turbo solonoid they block all the time. Vaccum hose inlet behind Egr at the back of the manifold

    When disassembling such slightly contaminated assemblies, I spill the joints with an easily penetrating lubricant, such as WD40. Then disassembly is much easier. And when assembling, I process it with an aerosol or plastic silicone lubricant, then the assembly is easier and the chances of keeping the ears are much higher :)

    Hiya,I cleaned my egr valve,(2006 vivaro 1.9 diesel,was totally clogged with crud),and it ran perfect for about a month then got the hesitation and stutter back so decided to fit new egr🙂 again it was running like a sowing machine for a fortnight then went back to coughing and farting again,once it does pick it's revs up it goes like the clappers,can't pull anymore hair out cos I've got none left Lol,any ideas or suggestions

    • @LarcsWorkshop

      Sounds like a right pain in the backside. If it's the same as mine, have you tried rotating it (to do the delete) and see if it plays up then? If it still does, it could be a different issue. Good luck sorting it out 🤞.

      Hi again,tried the delete on my vivaro egr which proved no difference at all,good news tho,while faffing around under the bonnet,( took the air filter housing out),on replacing it I forgot to plug in the MAF sensor,what do you know,the revs picked up and Ran a lot better,not perfect but runnable,when I noticed I'd not plugged MAF sensor in I slipped it back in and it went back to running rough again,fitted new MAF sensor and now runs better than ever, doesn't miss a beat and runs like a sowing machine☺️, love my vivaro again now lol,hope this helps anyone with same symptoms,thanks for being a great platform👍👍

    What was the purpose of rotating the solenoid 180 degrees when you refitted it?

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Před 2 lety +1

      Rotating it deletes the function of the EGR without bringing up a fault code.

    What is the length of the rear of the van? Looked online and I'm getting between 210cm and 245cm. I'm wanting to buy a van to move objects about 240cm in length so if I can do so in one of these then perfect, don't want to have to buy anything bigger.

    • @LarcsWorkshop
      @LarcsWorkshop  Před 3 lety +1

      It's 2840mm from the closed back doors to the step below the seats, about 2600mm from the doors to the back/top of the seats (I have no bulkhead though). It's 1260mm between the rear wheel tubs. Mine is a LWB and I've had 2.4m worktops on the floor easy👍.

      Hi Anglan, I own a Trafic and surprisingly compact van on the road in terms if its cargo space, here is the load length capacity of them: Length: swb: 2,400mm lwb: 2,800mm
      Always aim for the LWB, Sheets of 8x4 plywood have no problem what so ever fitting in my van and they are roughly 2440mm at there longest length. Also to note the bulkhead is at an angle so you lose a bit of cargo space with the taller the load

      Mines been unplugged for about 4 hours and it hasn't even noticed. Mine was an aftermarket one, poorly clocked with 1 bolt and clearly leaking. So I stuck it back as it should be and it wouldn't rev past 1400rpm. Unplugged it and it's behaving fine. No idea why it doesn't care 🤷‍♂️

    altering the egr is illegal as you are changing the emissions ,,,and as yours is a electric valve then it does have an effect on the ecu ,,a good egr cleaner does the job ,i have to clean mine after every trip to the uk as it clogs and goes into limp mode after 5000 kilometres with out fail ,and strangely enough always at the very same point of my journey grrrr
