  • German prosecutors on Thursday said police in the Bavarian city of Bayreuth had arrested two men on suspicion of spying for Russia.
The two are accused, among other things, of acting as agents for sabotage purposes and of preparing explosives, the German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced in Karlsruhe.
Germany also summoned Russia's ambassador in Berlin after the arrests were announced.
"We will not allow Putin to bring his terror to Germany," Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock wrote on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Such things cannot be easily or rapidly changed to invalidate the utility value of that already gathered and transferred intelligence. With this information, "the next guy" might not need to scout, they could potentially jump straight to the sabotage. Providing far less opportunity for German or other ally/partner intelligence to discover them before they are able to act. That would be a fairly bad case scenario outcome, but it's far from unrealistic.

First, it's not just greed, you will also find in Poland some who are so opposed to what they see as a decadent west that they see Putin as a potential savior. The fact that they are much fewer in number makes them more dangerous. First because this fuels their radicalization. Second, because they are more likely to be able to penetrate Ukrainian defenses without raising suspicion.
