- In Marathwada the persistent drought has changed the way people live. Mass migration has turned these into villages full of only old or very young people. Residents of Saglewadi sit around waiting for their children to come. Sometimes they wait for rains to come. A special report by SabrangIndia.

अवकाशातुन मराठवाडा पाहिला तर एक भला मोठा वाळवंट असल्याचा भास होतो, पण मला वाटतं ही परिस्थिती तेथील नागरिकांच्या चुकीमुळे वाढली असावी. एके काळी या ठिकाण प्रचंड प्रमाणात पाणी उपसा झाला आणि भूमिगत जल स्तोत्र नष्ट झाले.

years old dispute of Telangana state's claim over several villages in
Chandrapur district comes back to limelight. The Telangana High Court
declared these villages to be part of their state. In response, the
Maharashtra government had moved it to the Supreme Court, where its
appeal is still pending. 14 villages in Jiwati taluk, 12 villages in
Rajura taluk and 5 villages in Antapur of Chandrapur district are
disputed with Telangana State. They are revenue villages of Marazoda,
Anarpally, Lakampur, Ananthapur, Esagaon, Bolapathar, Gouri (D),
Parandoli, Paraswada, Arkepally (D), Karanjiwada, Kota, Mukadamguda,
Maharajguda, Lendijala, Lendiguda, Indiranagar, Yesapur, Narayanguda,
Shankarloddi, Padmavathi and Janakpur, etc. sharing border with Adilabad
District of Telangana, which has laid claim on these areas. The
encroachment by Telangana is much attributed to its two humungous
projects Pranahita Chevella lift irrigation scheme and Icchampally
project which are seen to drain-out the water, land, people and
agricultural resources of Vidarbha region.
The ongoing Telangana
State Irrigation project Pranahita Chevella lift irrigation scheme which
is a project not in the interest of Maharashtra. Maharashtra will be
losing about 2123.4 hectares of land (which is severely under reported
by print media at 1500 Ha or even less).
The Telangana State Irrigation project Icchampally Project which is a project not in the interest of Maharashtra. Maharashtra will be losing 33,614 hectares of land which is more than 100 villages.

The same thing is going to happen northwards including Gujarat , Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi within a few years . The reason being , the indiscriminate destruction of Aravali Hill Ranges right from northern gujarat to delhi . This is the only hill range that is the lifeline of these regions and comes in way of monsoon and hence it rains in these areas . Many small rivers also originate from these hills . Human has to pay for nature’s destruction sooner or later .
The problem is not keeping up with modern technology.Now in China and gulf countries they are changing desert to agriculture land.

आपल्या मुळापासून उखडून दूर कुठल्या तरी अनोळखी शहरात पोट भरण्यासाठी जाणाऱ्या आपल्या काळजाच्या तुकड्यांना रात्रनदिवस याद करत,देवळाच्या आवारात वेळ घालवावा . या सारखी दुर्देवी वेळ शेतकऱ्या वर यावी . मनाला खूप वाईट वाटले. या वर उपाय शोधला पाहिजे. शेती साठी पाणी पुरवले पाहिजे. नेते मंडळी नी मदत केली पाहिजे. त्यांची वोट बँक शहरात स्थायिक होत आहे. स्वार्था पोटी तरी राजकारणी लोकांनी पाणी पुरवले पाहिजे. ४ वर्षे पाऊस नाही .तर टँकर ने ठिबक सिंचन का होईना पण पाणी पुरवले पाहिजे.

Everyone likes to migrate to Maharashtra and make enough within few generations by bringing entire communities after communities. This is a trend and later spreading propaganda against Maharashtraians that they are corrupt, not ready to do low wages job and hence we justifying actions by certain communities that it is there birth right invading Maharashtra and take all the opportunities and infrastructure for themselves. Well I have been working for 20 years and was posted in Maharashtra for 2 years wherein the most corrupt were non-maharastrians taking over the state and central jobs by references amongst there own community members basically one comes and later makes sure to bring at least 25 of his own community people to settle left right center. This is also happening in corporate by the way not just government organizations. It seems like locals are literally thrown out and sidelined pushing them away from their mother land while justifying everything by blaming Maharashtraianns.
