    Dr. Mark Soliman is one of many surgeons at the forefront of robotic surgery, a medical technology innovation that seeks to reduce the margin of error for invasive surgery, helping to make surgical procedures safer and more precise.
    “Once you’ve taken these big imprecise hands of ours, scaled them down and put them inside the patient, we can achieve a level of precision that simply isn’t possible for the human body alone to do,” says Jonathan Conta, VP of product management at Intuitive, a manufacturer of robotic surgery equipment.
    Rather than having his hands directly on a patient, robotic surgery allows Soliman to conduct surgery from a remote console that provides him with an immersive, 3DHD view of the targeted anatomy. The surgeon uses a pair of grips to manipulate a separate robotic surgical system and conduct his various surgical maneuvers.
    “There are lives at stake when you perform surgery. Any miscalculated movement... bad things can happen,” Soliman says, his pause alluding to the debilitating, sometimes even fatal consequences, of a slip-up in surgery. But Soliman says robotic surgery eases his anxiety about any such potential mistakes. “Anytime I operate robotically, I feel like I’m so much more calm and I have full control of the operation.”

    I believe Intuitive should create a spinoff company (or license their technology) to create a simplified system that uses VR headsets and a smaller robot for non-medical uses. The market would be far bigger and less regulated, allowing economies of scale and alternate uses of existing IP to bring prices down. I would love to have a system like this for phone repair - you need the dexterity and vision enhancement as much as a surgeon, without the risk and safety concerns. Just the electronics repair business would probably dwarf the medical applications in volume.

    This is a stepping stone to something greater. At some point we might hopefully allow AI to learn from surgeons how to perform these robotic surgeries. A surgeon can only learn from the few other surgeons they meet, and have extremely limited practice. AI can practice all day every day in simulations, and learn from every surgeon on the planet all at once, and take the best skills and techniques from all of them. At a certain point human skill in these life-or-death industries, especially healthcare, will hopefully become redundant and we'll have 100% success rates in surgeries.

    • @zinjanthropus322
      @zinjanthropus322 Před 2 lety +2

      It would dangerous for humanity to lose those skills though. Imagine a cyber attack, supply chain jam, solar flare or something else happens that makes it impossible to use the technology. Suddenly there will be a lot of people who need the service but no one who remembers how to do it by hand.

    • @The_Cyber_System
      @The_Cyber_System Před 2 lety

      @@zinjanthropus322 I'm sorry, what? 🤨 This is not something that can be done by hand in the first place. This robotic surgery requires software and electronics either way. A cyber attack, supply chain shortage or solar flare would still affect this. Having AI would make no difference. Also none of those scenarios are likely, especially in the health industry.

    • @zinjanthropus322
      @zinjanthropus322 Před 2 lety

      @@The_Cyber_System Surgery is currently done by hand. A good surgeon with a kitchen knife, some alcohol and a sewing kit can save a life. With the introduction of AI and robotic surgeons, those human skills are likely to atrophy. Something that would come back to bite us if anything ever happens to stop the machines from operating.

    • @navneetagrawal3704
      @navneetagrawal3704 Před 2 lety +1

      I agree with @TodayPerson but i would also like to mention that in the field of surgery i am a little bit hesitant to let the AI completely takeover and i think the most beneficial form of relation will only exist when there is perfect synchronised relation between the surgeon and the robot. I mean to say that in the near future robots are allowed to operate but only in the presence of a certified surgeon. Independent robotic surgery is still something i am not very sure about.

    • @navneetagrawal3704
      @navneetagrawal3704 Před 2 lety +1

      Robots can still be helpful in the case of diagnostic medicine. I think that this field is one of the most beneficial field in which robots can allowed to work independently.

  • @ShoxMG
    @ShoxMG Před 9 měsíci

    You should throw all this robotic stuff to the next junkyard as fast as possible. The human body is no computer game! Every surgeon who's operating with a robot should lost his probation cause for me he's no surgeon anymore but an overpaid machine user. Robots mustn't be use on human bodies. Also there's no feedback for the surgeon cause he doesn't feel what he's doing. And btw, there's absolutly no improvement for the patient cause minimal invasive surgery is nothing new!
