Not being backwards compatible with cartridges is the same thing as not being backwards compatible to me. Basically my whole library is physical. Gigantic dealbreaker.

I hope backwards compatibility is happening for the next-gen Nintendo console in the future.
As a matter of fact, I hope the next-gen Nintendo console gets involved with backwards compatibility, cross-gen games, Mii Maker/Plaza, Mii-Verse (even though I've never been into Mii-Verse, I've heard most people say Mii-Verse is awesome, and it'll be awesome if Nintendo decides to bring back the Miiverse for the next-gen Nintendo console), free online service, background music (for both startup/main menu and E-Shop theme), customizable background theme (including the music), increased frame-rates/performance/storage space, stylized graphics/UI, better battery life, and last but not least, functional amiibo support.
The three things I'm worried about for the next-gen Nintendo console is Denuvo/DRM, lack of backwards compatibility, and digital only console.
God, I hope Nintendo doesn't reject physical games in the future, and I hope that the next-gen Nintendo console isn't the last physical system.

Its a no brainer that they wont. I lost all my games from wii, then wii u. Ive purchased games like mario kart8, 3dworld, mario bros u, zelda botw , twice already, once on the wii u then had to re buy the same damn games on the switch, not looking to rebuy them for a 3rd time on switch 2, if not backwards compatible im never buying another nintendo game ever again✌️
I think the Nintendo switch 2 should come with a slot that's as big as the cartridges for its brand new games. But at the same time the smaller switch cartridges can fit in there too just like how the little GameCube discs would fit inside the Wii game slot?
Honestly, compatibility with the DS system family wouldn't hurt either. And Nintendo knows that they could very well do it the way they did it on the DS. You can have the Switch slot on top and the DS slot on the bottom. Maybe the internal architecture would conflict resulting in a harder to achieve compatibility, but they could pull it off easily knowing Nintendo. But they'd rather re-release those same games for 70€ that give you the ability to play them normally if you already own them.
Now if Nintendo does free upgrade patches the way XBox did, they will build major hype for the upgrade.
If they make Switch 2 backwards compatibility with a Nintendo Switch emulator that would be pretty cool
I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be backwards compatible. This to is a similar situation to the DS to the 3DS. People still play Switch games, and the system itself is a phenomenon.

Im excited for the next console! I've needed minor repairs on my switch, (the right joycon can slide out of its lock easily), but if the next console has backwards compatibility, I doubt I'll need the repairs.
Backwards compatibility is great news, and being able to allow for the games to be enhanced through a next gen patch for companies that want to update titles makes a lot of sense. Nintendo has stated they do not want to carry two systems, so having the existing library available for the new system is a step in that direction. They do not have to re-release all of these titles, etc. However, if history is any indication, they also need as many current users to move over to the new system sooner rather than later--within the first 3 years. I can't think way of accomplishing this than for them to also develop a way for current systems circulating to be forward compatible in some limited sense. (1) video game developers just develop switch games, some will need to be specific for the new system, but most will not likely need to be only for the new system. Users could download a day 1 patch for switch 1 or 2. This ensures developers that they have access to the total switch user base at release and does not interrupt production. (2) Backwards compatibility as discussed in this video. (3) Forward compatibility through an add-on of some sort, which could be counted as a system since it would have to have some version of the new tegra chip, but it could essentially fit the old system and allow the current switch to offer an approximate experience of the new system. This would likely get folks who might wait, playing the new games without interruption, and almost ensure that they will do a full upgrade sooner rather than later. I think that would be a novel way of going forward that may circumvent the two system/ old-new/ problem. As we can see with the playstation, they are talking about the PS6 while still maintaining the PS4 along with the PS5.
If the cartridges arent backwards compatable, then im just going to delay getting any new hardware. I dont really need to rush out and spend 400 bucks on a new system (especially since I bought my switch oled recently) for slightly better graphics in the same games I already own.
Need a second microSD port imo too. Hope the Switch pro controller is backwards compatible. Hope for patches for past switch ports.
fun fact: the original Wii was supposed to have two SD Card slots but got reduced to one, hopefully we can have dual micro SD slots on the Switch 2.
I want a new pro controller with analog triggers they are better than digital triggers especially for racing games as you can control how much gas you want to give your car.
I don’t see why you’d need a second microSD slot. Just get a larger card.

I feel like 4k anything on switch is a far away dream. The switch struggles to do 720pi 30fps with alot of game it would have to be a massive increase to even consider 4k. Even consistent 1080pi 30fps would be a massive jump, maybe 1080pi 60fps would be the best id expect out of a switch 2.

It's sad to see the decent of a CZcams I once held in high esteem. This content I would expect from Switchforce or Nintendo Prime. I know this gets you views which = money, but when you're doing this along side a patron, it burns a lot of good will with your fan base.
3:04 I don’t see Nintendo making “Switch 2” Backwards Compatible and excluding physical games. This isn’t Xbox or PlayStation we’re talking about, Nintendo sells a lot of physical games, offering only digital BC games would certainly alienate physical enthusiast, potentially creating a big problem with angry fans.
Like the old saying goes, “if you can’t do something right, don’t bother doing it at all”.
I still wish that we could have gotten a usb disk drive that could have run Wii/Wiiu games on the switch when docked… but I guess why sell a ~$100-120 dollar accessory when you can force everyone to buy all/some of your games again at $70 a pop 😅

And like a disc drive would completely ruin the point of the switch. You can bring some of your games with you but your discs you can’t.
To expand on that, I really wish that we could connect USB devices to our docks and put our save data in there, too. Not just relay on the system memory or SD cards
Traditionally Nintendo has done this and it has paid off for them in the past I hope they continue about this trend

Don't get me wrong I really hope for backwards compatibility. And that seems to be the trend thus far. But the OLED technically was just that from the original switch. Just thinking logically. Maybe an adapter or something of the sort. Truly need that backwards deal though, 🤞

Switch 2 crushing Playstation or Xbox would require more then backwards compatibility. People left Nintendo for a reason and it would take more then just it can play game you do not own in the first place to bring them back.
So the switch was mostly a port machine for Nintendo and the switch 2 is going to be mostly an upscaling machine. Hard to get excited for that.

Why is everyone wanting a switch 2? It should be a completely new console. It should still have backward compatibility, but it shouldn't be the same console, just with a few upgrades.
The thinking that a Switch 2 would play original switch games with better performance and visuals makes no sense. Why Nintendo give games you already own an upgrade at no cost. Doesn't make business sense

Ok but wouldnt backwards compatibility hurt sales of the new system? Ie why buy a 500 (Canadian) dollar new system when the switch is half that price? I mean wasnt one of the reasons the Wii U didnt sell well was the backward compatibility?
No, the reason the Wii U sold poorly is the marketing was confusing and casuals didn’t know it existed.
