Good special. This video is not monetized by me. The quality isn't great but at the time it was the only version online. Buy Doug's book 'Digging Up Mother' on Amazon.
I was upset that this existed on CZcams, and Doug wasn't benefiting from it, until I checked the description and saw that it's monetized on his behalf and he's getting paid.
"You know that guy, in the 70s Cop Movie, the guy who has to hand over his badge and gun coz he's a loose canon and hes doing things his way, but in the end he's proven right and does the good thing eventually.... Thats Doug Stanhope" - Bill Burr
This is one of the most savage comedy specials in history, and I would expect nothing less from Stanhope. He never uses euphemisms, and I love it. It’s all raw.
True story.. My friends family are very funny and their mum was terminally ill. The night she died in her sleep they had Indian food. At the breakfast table amongst all the sadness and silence, the youngest child says "Do you think it was the Vindaloo?"
I'm in my 60s, thought I knew comedy, I have never heard of Mr. Stanhope, where have I been? As he said, That Was a Show! The mad is Smart, quick, passionate! I'm here on Saturday afternoon, waking up my dog with my out loud laughing. Excellent, Thank you.
Stanhope is low key one of the bravest stand-ups you'll ever see. He's very respected by other comics, but he's never been part of a 'clique', never compromised, never apologised, and always killed it. He's a comedian's comedian because he's never sold out. He's never presumed to be anything other than a stand-up comedian. There's a lot of top tier stand-ups around today, but I don't think anyon captures the base line stand-up attitude of Lenny Bruce quite like Doug Stanhope.
"how could she have bought me shit on her skymiles 4 days later" is a fking haymaker of a punchline, what a setup. That might be the best callback I've ever seen in comedy

Genius. Every seemingly crude joke hides a thought-provoking truth. One of the best comedians alive.

that mother suicide story is the most tragic, scary, somehow heartwarming and hilarious story I've heard. I think it might be my favourite...
He gives me hope. Not a good hope. A shady, dark, true, stan hope.
Michael Keaton could play Doug in the movie of his life.

"I've no fear of death I just hate waiting for it" brilliant
hope he keeps evading cancer few more decades. ı want to see this guy get as old as carlin and talk trash with that wisdom.
"Winkin' like a cyclops in a rain storm." The man knows how to paint a picture.

Any time I feel really down in life, Doug Stanhope always makes me feel so much better.
