LeBron James lacks Michael Jordan’s 'assassin' mentality - Stephen A. | First Take

  • Stephen A. Smith puts LeBron James among his top 3 NBA players of all time but he can’t put him ahead of Michael Jordan because LeBron developed his championship mentality while Michael Jordan had it when he first joined the league.

      Who could guard Lebron? I see some people says Jordan.. some say Pippen.. sure they both good. Who would guard Lebron and keep him in check? Kukoc. Put Lebron on the Warriors with the best Warriors team out there.. they still wouldn't have beat the bulls. Harper locks up Klay. Jordan Locks up Steph. Pippen Locks up Durant. Kukoc slows down James.. Rodman utterly DESTROYS Draymond, and anyone dumb enough to try to come to the hole. Now, on the flip side.. who stops Jordan from scoring? James? He's an average to, slightly above average defender. That's not holding down MJ. No one else on that Warriors team plays good enough defense to lock down Jordan. That's not even counting Scottie.

    • @nathanaelgion2762
      @nathanaelgion2762 Před 5 lety +60

      Everybody talks about this. Okay ya sure Lebron had to face the warriors they're stopping him from getting rings. I may understand once they got KD it's impossible to beat GS in a 7 game series. So Lebron has been robbed of rings 2 times so far. Lebron's team beat the warriors that went 73-9 for the title. So obviously the year before when GS had 3 all stars against the Cavs 3 all stars Lebron could have won that series. Now let's talk about the other 5 finals Lebron James has been in. 3 of them Lebron had to face the Spurs which in 2007, Spurs swept the Cavs, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Ginobili were still in their primes, but were starting to wear down through the years they played. Then Lebron beat them in 2013 with help from Ray Allen who hit one of the most clutch shots in NBA history to push it to 7 games. Then they lose to that exact same San Antonio team the next season in 5 games. The other 2 finals Lebron beat the OKC thunder. Props to him. But when Lebron went up against the 2011 Mavs that had just ONE all star (Dirk Nowitzki) against his 3 on the Heat? What the hell happened? Dirk lead the Mavs to a championship over the Heat in 6 games with a starting 5 of an OLD Jason Kidd, JJ Barea, Shawn Marion, Dirk, and Tyson Chandler. This is why Lebron ain't no GOAT.

Did he not set up bill wennington for a WIDE OPEN game winning dunk in a game dubbed as "double nickel game". You probably just watched his scoring highlights then if you think he lacks passing and playmaking skills. • @Ruben-wm7hx
      @Ruben-wm7hx Před 5 lety

      The Good Doctor Why all of a sudden you put LeBron in above Tim Duncan, I hate the debate of players out of position because if you really think about it Tim Duncan really went out and beat LeBron twice in the finals and lost to him once because he got subbed out, in game 6 the spurs were up 3-2 in the series and to rest Tim Duncan Gregg Popovich took out Tim Duncan in the final moment of the 4th quarter which then lead to Chris Bosh getting a rebound and giving it to Ray Allen to win the game, lord knows if Tim Duncan was on the floor he would’ve either got the rebound or made the rebound harder to fight for making Ray Allen unable to get that last shot in, Tim Duncan is the all time leader in defensive team selections meaning he is the defender over the span of his career more than other great defenders, defensively he has LeBron beat easily rebounding he’s a better skilled rebounder Tim Duncan was a clutch player and he really could have won 5 straight finals MVPs that year in 2014 he didn’t win but would’ve been the second choice for his defense and the fact that he averaged an easy double double with great efficiency all at the age of 37 in the finals and in 2007 he should’ve won the finals mvp no hate to Tony Parker but Tim Duncan did lead the spurs in rebounding and blocks easily while being the second option in scoring so really like the voters clearly favored offense when Tim Duncan played both sides, he could have easily been voted as the finals MVP for all his chips and still even with the way it is he has 3 finals mvps and 5 championships and the all time defensive selected not Dikembe not Hakeem just him and defense gets really overlooked when talking about the goats like that’s why Jordan is better than LeBron because unlike LeBron who only goes for the hi-light defensive plays Jordan actually played defense and won an Defensive player of the year, but besides that I don’t think there’s anyone that can challenge Jordan for the GOAT title everyone else currently is fighting for that second best and Tim Duncan surely can be argued for it because even though I did this whole rant about his defense don’t sleep on his offensive skill set which it’s a shame he wasn’t able to show it since Popovich system limits players numbers yet he still had good numbers and rebounding as well

      That is because Kobe would try to win the game at all cost. At the end against the clippers, Kobe would call for the ball and shoot threes even if he had a defender in his face to try and get his team back. Lebron on the other hand drove in and passed to Rondo for a three, instead of taking a shot himself. That is the difference.

Once MJ made it to the finals he dominated and never looked back. By the way, the game was also much more physical, which required a lot more work on the offensive player, and still as a guard MJ dominated the entire league!
