Is there anything Lance can't do or willing to try to do himself. The good thing is that when you start traveling you will know that you have a fresh engine. While you have it out maybe freshen up the transmission too.

Lance Great job, I probably would have gone ahead and put new Barings on the pistons while having the motor apart for sake of not needing to do it again . I had a ford Torino once and we never had any good oil pressure one day we pulled the oil pan and Well Duh the oil pump was lying in the bottom of the pan ! We have no idea how the thing was even running at all. Craziest thing I ever saw. Back to the video- Laterz Leland

Honing marks should be seen in all cylinders, that's what helps keep a film of oil on the cylinder walls. These engines have been torn down with over 450000 miles on them with still good cross hatch honing marks in the cylinders. That possibly won't be a sign that it was previously rebuilt.

I have a 96 f350 7.3. Some day after my shop is built, I plan to do the same type of rebuild. Lol
I commend you for trying to rebuild this type of engine. Power strokes were made by International. They're a downsized V8 that has its roots in semi's. They're a durable, reliable engine. Diesels are all hearty built engines. The block, for example, is made thicker for increased strength. The terminology you've used so far, is actually correct. But what you understand it means, there's where it'll confuse most. There's so many things I could impart to you but it won't help you now, you have it torn down. When you do reassemble it, try to refer to a manual so it can explain more to you. Having a seasoned mechanic, on speed dial, is absolutely needed. But overall, you're doing a bang up job bro. You guys can learn so much doing this.
For the peanut gallery, I have better than 30 years of mechanic experience. I used to build championship race engines, some tractor(semi) engine rebuilds, farm equipment engine rebuilds, some odd transmission rebuilding here and there. Am I an "expert" on anything? Let me say this, years of experience says someone going in neck deep on a Powerstroke rebuild, is obviously a big undertaking. There's nothing in them that sets them apart from any other internal combustion engine other than the diesel aspect. Compression is highly elevated in all diesel applications. Race has the same thing, and a few other machining tricks thrown in for good measure. A high performance diesel utilizes many of the same things that any drag engine does. If I haven't shown you my qualifications by now, there's not much more I could do or say that will change your minds.
The hoses are fuel return hoses and low pressure, the hoses that are high pressure are stainless and connect to the hpop. Ive pulled 7.3's apart that "still show honing marks" with 400k or more, its not a good way to judge. The valve guides, valve seats, rod bearings and piston pin bushings are where you can see how hard or long the motor was run. The epidemic of cheap tuning products really puts a beating on rod bearings and pin bushings. The bowl in the piston is because its direct injected and the bowl is where the fuel and air mix. Gasoline engines that are direct injected have bowls too.

My van has a 4.6 l 2v. I’m sure I need to be doing the same thing soon ….. timing chain, injectors, plugs, coils , all the fluids flushed an replaced……. You know I know how long this took . Just for dirt roads 😘

I blew a Hpop braded stainless hose that was old and wore out. Oil went everywhere all over everything under the hood. When I checked the dipstick there was no oil in the motor lol. The motor shut off due to im assuming the injectors not firing witch saved my motor.
It's a great fail safe these motors have 🙌🏻🙌🏻

So brave' Diesel's are a bit more complicated than a 350! If you travel out of country' 'especially south? bring every single item you can possibly think of, that could break or wear out' or two, including tires! + HD tire plug kit, tireslime, and a compressor! and a cheap popped Air mattress pad to lay on, underneath,and a small pop up gazebo' for while repairing in the rain!, just in case! imo' The difference between a manageable peaceful night' and a nightmare!✌️💪😶🇺🇲

Lance, how do you know how to do all this? Were you an auto mechanic or have you rebuilt engines in the past? Did your Dad or someone else teach you all this? I’m amazed by how much you know and can do.
Fun fact, your motor will still run with a broken HPOP hose.
It will just hemorrhage oil onto the ground.
Ask me how I know.
It's a good think this engine holds a lot of oil.

That engine didn't need to come apart, they are good for over 500k miles easily. All it needed was new sensors and seals. How many miles are on it?
210 k miles. We're rebuilding the injectors. Measuring for anything that needs remashined. Replacing all hoses, gaskets, replacing valves and more. Once pulling it apart we saw a ton of things that were off or missing. Happy we're doing it and getting it all done anyways 😊
Question more for lance but… I’m a young teen looking into rebuilding my 7.3 in my 95 econoline exactly like you guys! How much money and time did y’all put into this thing ? I was curious? I’m building on top of a retired ambulance up in Canada!

I have another Goof move or modern speech Cluck move my Buddy thought he was helping me one weekend we had the motor out of his car and we were to pooped to put it back in, so the next weekend I come over he has it all back in and wired but I look on the floor and well I think you may have forgotten something! He says what I point out he did not put the Torque converter between the motor and the tranny ha ha ha I have seen it all Lol needless to say we pulled the motor back out to correct the problem. @@edwardhenry7119 the 7.3 is well known as a reliable work horse. If someone is trying to sell you on the idea that anything with power stroke on it is bad, they don't know what they are talking about. Some are great like this 7.3 and some are pretty much junk like the 6.0 and 6.4.
