The problem with a stock harmonic damper is they are tuned to a specific frequency set by the OE in a stock application. once you start changing parts and modifying your engine from stock, it is no longer doing its job at protecting your engine. Our (Fluidampr) 7.3 damper is the highest selling Ford damper we make. If you have any questions feel free to email me Nick@fluidampr.com

Not sure what's wrong with my 7.3 powerstroke. It only has 130k miles, no blowby, but it has issues starting in the cold. Like even if I let it sit for a day it just about won't start at all. I'd have to crank it for like 10 minutes to start. When it starts it also idles rough and black smokes. It clears after a few seconds. Not gonna build it I'm keeping it stock. Just has a tuner, intake, and exhaust. Super slow but I don't mind.

If u have a block heater keep that 7.3 plugged in all the time in the cold weather. there very cold natured
engines when stock or lightly modded or if u dont have a block heater just let the glow plugs heat up for a good 10 to 15 seconds and remember the 7.3 is old school tech so it's gonna run a little rough in the cold till it warms after those few seconds

Joe Chrisman money wise your best bet is to find an early 2000s or 1994.5 and up 7.3. reliable as fuck mine has 360k on it and very little blowby and runs great. idi’s are infamous for premature head gasket failure. powerstroke you can achieve that number quite easily with some custom tunes and injectors and possibly a turbo and still probably be under the budget it’d take to build an idi for performance like that. reliability and power wise i’d personally take a powerstroke. easier to find parts and performance parts for, and more options since they are still relevant in the diesel performance category.
