    Many thanks for the helpful videos on the Nitro Mesh kit. Actually, the Nitro does trigger the half open HH position. You notice it when get the occasional mystery drum note closing the HH, which I mistook for crosstalk at first. There’s no dedicated light button (as with toms and snare..etc.) but you can can change its MIDI assignment by triggering the middle position on the HH pedal. By default it’s assigned to #23. That said, in GB, there aren’t any voices that work directly with that setting, so you can set it to open or close instead. #23 is silent on some kits, which can lead tapping futilely on the HH with no sound, so don’t leave it blank.

    Great vids! A good workaround for the hihat is to leave it connected (along with the pedal controller) to the Alesis module and simply mix the audio output with the audio output of the iPhone to your monitor rig. That way you’ll get the full articulations of the hat (al beit not the GB sounds for just the hihat).
    Despite the hihat midi notes not being recorded in GB, this workaround is good for a live scenario. In the event that you’re trying to record while playing the Alesis kit, you can go back to the midi editor and simply manually input the hihat notes later. Cheers!

    Thanks for the informative video. New drummer here. Guys, the GB setup works. Sounds better than the module hi-hat sounds. I use the SoCal kit. If the GB volume is too low, you can increase it in Track Settings (in GB) along with other various settings. Also, have GB run in the background so you can switch tabs to play along to drumless tracks on CZcams. Sometimes my HH doesn’t trigger after opening and closing so I’m gonna try what another person suggested in the comments. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. Has anyone had any experience hooking this up to the Strike 8 amp? Would GB still function the same if I had the headphones disconnected and just run the amp? Thanks.

Nothing even close to the smooth experience you have in this video. I've tried using a MIDI connection and USB, same result. Any thoughts or ideas?

    • @demonicsweaters
      @demonicsweaters  Před 4 lety +1

      VST is a plugin technology from Steinberg, but I think I understand you're asking if GarageBand has plugins? Yes it does. It has some built-in, and you can add UV3 plugins that can be found in the app store. GarageBand iOS is a DAW that is actually pretty unique since it features a lot of instruments that can be played right on the touchscreen of the device. You can also control these instruments from a midi controller, which is what I'm doing with my drum set here. You can also record audio and mix it with the midi tracks.

    • @HydetheRapper
      @HydetheRapper Před 4 lety

      I have no idea how to do this on your phone, but it has something to do with which “notes” the sounds and inputs are mapped to. For instance, the DAW, whichever one you use, thinks of the kick as being on C1 on a piano keyboard, and it maps the input from the kick pedal to C1, so that when you play the pedal, it plays the right drum sound.
      So adding the splash function of the HH pedal is just a matter of figuring out which note the pedal is mapped to and mapping the sound you want to the same note.
      As for the crash action, I assume you mean like dampening it with your hand? Stopping the cymbal? And the answer there is you probably can’t. Again, the DAW maps the sounds and the drum inputs to an individual note. It can change the “velocity” (how loud or soft the sound is) depending on how hard you hit the drum pad, but it can’t adjust the root sound much.
      As I think about, there might be a way to do it, but it would require sampling your own multi-velocity sound, which is way beyond me, so yeah. Short answer is you can’t do it.
