  • I stopped my doors from rattling and letting outside cold air in every time the wind blows with Brush Seals style weatherstripping. The standard, old, vinyl style was horrible. It didn't seal at all. The doors rattled and the wind blew in like I had opened a window. I could see daylight all around it. The new Brush Seals style replacements on the top and sides has completely stopped the rattling and all the air infiltration. I bough the weather strip from American Garage Door Company.

    I put up some of the MD style weatherstrip with trim on my shop door at least 10 years ago and it looks fine. Now I bought some for my shed door and it's thinner material. We'll see how long it lasts. Local lumber yard had a couple sticks of the thicker stuff but I needed 4 strips.

      @@rickstid-bits I actually needed 6 strips. Just got them installed. My wife helped me. It's 97 degrees out now. I'm done for the day. One problem I encountered is that the rubber wanted to bend inward instead of outward like it's supposed to. I let the door down and hopefully the hot weather will form it overnight so when I close it again it will fold correctly.

    You should buy some green hinges for the garage door. They are spring loaded and push the door towards the outside by pressing in the rollers. Works great!

      I heard so many good things about those green hinges. Would you add more details what you mean by "too much pressure", please? What happened if pressure was too much?@@richardhines7042

      Hello. I apologize for my not responding sooner. We are just getting back from a cruise where I had no Internet access. I don’t know about that. I have not seen any damage to mine since I installed them. You can certainly call the company and ask them. The company I bought them from is listed in the description. Thank you for leaving me a comment. Rick.

      @rickstid-bits  Před 11 měsíci

      Hello. Yes. If wind blows the rain hard onto the door I still get some water on the floor near the edges of the doors. BUT, I don't know of Any garage weatherstrip type that will stop water from getting inside. Rick

      ah so no "sure fire way" to keep water that gets blown at the door from trickling in.? do u find it keeps bugs and spiders out? @@rickstid-bits

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits  Před 11 měsíci

      Not that I'm aware of. I don't see how it's possible to completely seal the edges of the door where the bottom of the door meets the side weatherstripping. Mine is very tight there. But I don't think it would stop a small bug that's determined to get in.

    What type of weatherstrip do you use at the bottom? I use black rubber, and it keeps busting. It drives me nuts.

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits  Před rokem

      I use the standard rubber strip. I always buy it from a local garage door company. Be aware that there are different widths of it. I think 3" or 4" (?). Make sure you get the width that fits that door. Plus, the garage door opener's down travel should be adjusted so the weight of the door just sits on the floor. The opener should not be pressing/smashing it into the floor.
