I WAS at X's home when Exene shared her story. Live, I'm in front, taking photos. 1:52 for a split second. My dark hot magenta hair; the two white vertical things to my left is my camera flash; my handmade black dress on my shoulders. YEP, I'm right in front of the stage, between two other girls. In OTHER songs, I'm right in front of John Doe. I moved around. I didn't plant myself in one spot. But always up front. My photos from that night are now beloved, classic, iconic X photos. Yeah, my fave band. I also have photos of director Penelope Spheeris in their home, after interviewing. I stepped back when they were filming. Then could take casual shots. Have some KILLER images. X. My fave of all the MANY great punk or rock bands I saw or shot.
It was cool. It was a fun time. When life was easier, cheaper, and you plugged in yr phone and never dealt with customer service on anything. We went out every evening. Made art. Made music. Made lives. Now, forget it. Sad to say that ... but the quality of life has gone waaaay down and the cost waaay up. We're desperate. Far more than then. :-(
Thanks for sharing. We are envious indeed. Seems women were still "safe" in 1980 or so prior to the hard core explosion. I am 46 now. By the time I got to shows in L.A., it was a damn brawl.
FRIGGEN BRILLIANT.... I think X, The Germs and Fear did the best job for live performances on the Decline movie -- I watch these clips over and over again.
Also the fact that Darby died before it even came out makes his on stage antics so much more heavy. God damn that dude put on a show. But I agree, fear, X and the germs were by far the best performances.I like fear and X’s performances more than the studio versions if the songs they did
They were so raw and dangerous back then. So different from all the other bands, and in my opinion, so much better. Like adults in a sea of angry children. And I was one of the angry children. They're still great. But it's time for a new album, while they're still able.
They still didn't meet the rigid parameters of the la hardcore scene and were too rockin and punk for anyone else. Didnt appreciate their greatness until hearing early danger house singles and later albums. But live...as good as anyone in the film. And everyone was killer. Performance blew everything else away. (Except the proof what an incredible top notch Circle Jerks drummer Lucky Leher was--one of the best).
Fyi- the " angie mima" mentioned at the beginning of the video is a early punk rock LEGEND very few have heard of. Im 95% sure shes seen at 00:21 with blonde hair, just left of cemter of the screen, and again at 00:34. She was one of the people that started the ENTIRE philadelphia punk scene. She currently does A radio show out of texas. I had the pleasure of living with her and working on music with one of the bands she started. Here's a link to some of her later work. czcams.com/video/HD6k7tQPoAw/video.html -------------- Update. Angie has since passed on, and the independent music world is without another of its best. Angie, youll always hold a special place in everyones heart that knew you, and i consider it an honor to say that we were close friends.
Trust me, that's typical Billy Zoom, I went to the concert for this album Wild Gift in the early 80's.....I thought it was funny when Exene sings "Some people give me the creeps" and the camera was on smiling Billy the whole time
From 1978-'81 they were the coolest band in the US.

Was Ed Colver there too?
Six dollars! Talking about the princely sum of six dollars to see a band. A great time to be a kid.
Yes it was! Sometimes we had to budget out beer money but LA was amazing for music at that time.
Born in 94 here, I missed a fun time.
I'm going to see X in a couple of weeks here in SF. Ticket price: $55.
Not that I care; it'll be more than worth it.

Alice Bag Band was sick on this movie as well
Uhhhh Black Flag?
@@deanmorgan9034 I wish we had that complete show of X...
File under 'songs which will never go out of style.' "Last night everything broke" has to be one of the finest lyrics ever written.
And "my whole fuckin life is a wreck!"

I've got good news for you . . .
@@WILLIAMGARM Whoah! Really?
@@Riskmangler Yeah! New album out called Alphabetland on their Bandcamp
@@WILLIAMGARM Thanks - That's great news.

Billy Zoom is the best. X LIVES!!!
love that drum pattern
My younger brother would always listen to X way back then ....They were loud and heavy with their unique dissonant pair of vocals...SO VERY COOL !!! 🔇
Exene let me in to the show in Hollywood.. I will never stop loving you mom..
*”it’s kiss or kill!!!”* 🎶
Best Punk Band Ever.. Remaking this would be a crime towards the old LA punk scene!
This is one of my favorite songs
My ringtone
Thank you X for all the music and playing at Johnny Ramones tribute concert. That was the punk thing to do!!!
Loved this era, circa 1980-81.
2:42 is the image used on X t-shirts....
John at the end ... "Give 'em a flea bath quick."😂
Damn great!..what rock n roll. IS.!
I FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND!!!
They got the beat, they got the beet, they got it!
Just discovered this on pearl jams XM channel. Was listed as one of pjs influences. Wish I was old enough to live this ! Love it.
one of the most under appreciated bands in amerika. my whole fu*king life is a wreck.....
A real punk song.
I haven't seen this in so long. Need to find a copy.
i love this. thanks for posting!
Awesome!
Great song! 😎
I like how wasted Angie Mima, Billy Zoom & John Doe are forgetting the words to there song and there like fuck it luaghing.
6 bucks in Punk Rock money is like $10,000. Trust me, I was the guy in the parking lot panhandling trying to get into the gig.
I'm an hour away from seeing X live! 15 years of waiting is finally over
Saw them at the Starwood. 7.50. With another band or two. What a bargain
A gentle soul could post all the documentary????PLeaseeee :)
I love X
This song is apropos for the year 2022.
Kicking a$$! 😈
This shit is so on time!
bro I just saw them last night at the cave up in big bear , & golly they were amazing ;)
That escalated quickly.
"Altamont, allright. Summer of '68, allright"
Australia's X weren't too shabby. Aspirations is the album. Same time period, worth checking out.
Required listening.
Going through this now, fridge died 3 days ago, it'll be a miracle if I do not slug him when he finally shows up
I've Always Been Desperate...What's Wrong With Me...What's Wrong With Me...Ain't Non Of Your God Damn Business
So how about changing the Were to We're, or is that a sly nod to the advanced age of the band members who "were desperate" but are now NOT desperate?
Well, they are still touring, in part because they can use the money. I asume.
You think they didn't make sacrifices to play rock and roll that long?
Not many will ever make enough to not struggle. Buy their stuff.
$6 to see x .....fuck take me back
Get used to it 😎Lol
Some people give me the creeps..
altamont ! hehe
WAT?!?
Omg, $6.00? We poached.
E long musk is out of his league
Oh God Penelope Spheeris-o
at 1:28....when john kicks someone in the face
It’s kiss or kill.
I need some pit therapy.
STOMPER
Once again I have to move too many crazy violent assaults and assholes
Wretched subtitles! It's not "Landlord, landlord, landlord *cleaning* up the mess"! They're desperately telling him to *clean* up the mess FFS!! 🤦♂️
6 dollas
TRUMPLETHINSKIN'S NEW THEME SONG!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
the guitarist didn't get the mood of the song
That was Billy Zoom and his permasmile.😁
That was kinda Billy's thing
Trust me, that's typical Billy Zoom, I went to the concert for this album Wild Gift in the early 80's.....I thought it was funny when Exene sings "Some people give me the creeps" and the camera was on smiling Billy the whole time
