Love the old manual transmission School buses. As a kid riding the bus to school, I sat up in the front seat just to watch the driver drive the bus. Once in awhile there would be a substitute driver who really didn’t know how to drive a stick , he or she would grind the gear and sometimes kill the engine 😆 The good old days of school buses
This right here is what made me want to be a bus driver. I used to ride a Ward with Chevy 5sp. Same motor as this and I would sit up front just to watch the driver drive and I always knew when it was time to change gears. I could close my eyes and know where we were on the rout just the gear gears changing. Needless to say I learn to drive on a 1989 Bluebird Chevy 5spd. I cried when the put me in my first automatic
My elementary school's fleet at the time (94-00) was mostly compprised of these, even though some of the newer ones were diesel. Brings back memories...
I remember one kid on my route had a stop right on the middle of a steep hill. The driver had to keep it in first until she got to the top of the hill and even as a 7 year old, I thought the engine was going to blow some day 😅
Those are the best shifting transmissions. That's when driving a bus was fun, now it's just a job lol
Beautiful motor in this old girl. Identical to the one that was my 86 gmc 6000 the first year i drove school bus. When i started our entire fleet was manual transmission and we loved them. Took us alot of getting used to when they switched us all to the automatics, would still look for the clutch with my left foot in the automatic.
Awesome video my guy! There's not a bunch of driving videos of these masterpieces with gasoline engines.
I have a video of me driving one, it's just unlisted: czcams.com/video/Zm9La5TO_d8/video.html&ab_channel=RonaldC
Brings back memories of the '86 Chevy BB I rode as a kid
I absolutely love the engine and transmission sound 🥰
I love the sound of it
Reminds me of Bus 7 Mrs Schaefer drove. CV200 had an automatic though but all the sounds are spot on!.
We had a few of these in my district. That sound brings back memories!
I think this bus sounds like the gas engine busses I would occasionally ride as spares. I started going to school when gas busses were being phased out in the late 80s in McDowell Co. West Virginia.
This is great and like someone else said earlier in a comment, there aren't enough of these videos out there with these buses. I like the ones from the 70s that sounded like this, along with the trucks that used to be out there, which also had this sound, but with a more pronounced wine in the first gear.
I have a video of me driving one, it's just unlisted: czcams.com/video/Zm9La5TO_d8/video.html&ab_channel=RonaldC
This a 1997? This bus sounds damn good to me sounds better then a lot of these newer ones if say
Awesome video! Wooow!! Suuure take s me back to child hood.
Cool vid! Same drivetrain as my '95 Kodiak dump truck. I love that Eaton 5 speed transmission, they shift like a car. They have a heavy mechanical clutch though.
Although CVs were so common up here, not sure how many got gassers up here. Always loved the styling of these
Rode a Chevy bus in early 70's with 427 and 5 speed. Our driver knew how to work that big block.
Rode an old 89 International with a diesel for awhile in the 90's. It had been a 5 speed, the lady that drove it was retired as a truck driver. So when the 5 speed manual quit working, they somehow got a 10 speed manual in that bus. Most gears I've ever seen on a school bus, and she loved it!
How big is this bus? 40 feet? "35 feet? This bad boy sounds like the Bluebirds from the 80's at the camp I used to go to. :-D
I think it’s close to 39 feet
My schools fleet up to 2015ish mainly consisted of these buses. One was a GMC, which was the only manual
Up until 2015? That's amazing. Here in South Carolina we got rid of most of our gas engine buses when they bought a ton of 1995 Thomas ERs for the whole state, which were diesel.
What? This engine existed in 1997? I did not know that.
Right? I always thought the 366 was phased out towards the mid-90s, being replaced by the 454 engine
Dang! That bus sounded like my high school bus 110 and it was a Wayne Chevy school bus.
probably the same engines
Excellent video. This is my favorite bus. I wonder what tires this bus uses.
One video that has NEVER been on YT is ANY cv200 with the cat 3116 with the AT545
I found this. Hope it helps.

1:46 School bus5😊
The rarity of these buses is why I’ll most likely never sell my 2 diesel cv200’s
I admit they’re probably my 2nd favorite bus to drive behind the 1st gen ICs.
@@0312Productions I love the first Gen ic’s. We have an 04 spare at work and that’s thing is a work horse
5:13 TIRES SQUEAL
Is it still in regular use as a school bus?
9:57 wheel spin?
Matthewgeorgefivespeed😅😅😅😅😅😅
Is It CDL Or Non CDL Bus
CDL
Ford 7.3 Godzilla
No, that just came out recently. This is a 366 gasser (6.0 V8). Ford had a version like it, the 370 (6.1).
