    Wow this was very informative Monisha. I like it that you mentioned the importance of including the things one did (eg. in orthopedics) that can distinguish you from other applicants. I am researching all this information for my daughter who is well on her way to the NHS. I really like the detail you gave in this video. Thanks a million!!!

    Hello, Dr Monisha
    I really love your videos, they provide great insight about the UK's healthcare system and the life there.
    I was thinking if you could make a video on a topic that is hardly covered on the youtube, that is the Private Health Care System in the UK and how it compares with the NHS in the UK and US' Private Health Care System.
    Like how big or small it is, working hours of docotrs, salaries, and how to join it.
    May you youtube channel reach great heights.
    Thank you😊

    • @gloriaalva8781
      @gloriaalva8781 Před 2 lety

      Naseer. Private health care is limited as compared to NHS. And it depends on what grade you work at. If one is a consultant on the specialist register you would be earning more than consultant of NHS. Usually the high earners are orthopedic consultants and cardiovascular surgeons. This is due to the fact that there is a long queue in NHS for surgeries like Hip replacement surgery which could be anything ranging from 6 months to 1 yr. So pts who have paying capacity are happy to pay to private consultants in order not to wait. But like any private pt they expect a reply from you when they call you - so thats the down side.
      For junior doctors - private hospitals do take junior doctors. But for that you would need to have NHS experience of a minimum of 1-2 yrs as you would likely be the only doctor with the bleep for many wards and you would be working fairly independently, with the consultant being directly on call. Usually the working hours are longer than NHS. But they offer some good perks. Onsight accomodation is quite good and many have free meals during working hours and salary would be higher than your peer in NHS. And again private hospitals of psychiatry are different from private medical and surgical hospitals, so there are many variables. The down side of being a junior doctor in private and not in a training post is, you are not progressing in career like a trainee and becoming a consultant. The key here is having a career path in mind. If it suits your personal circumstance. Fair enough.

So I finished my internship in Dec 2021 and since then I'm not working as finding a job in my home country is very difficult whether it is junior resident or a gp in a local or private hospital, I applied everywhere but no success and recently I have been reading many posts in many groups that getting a job in UK after GMC registration ( even non training jobs) becomes harder and harder so I'm very anxious as I'm preparing for plab exam but now I'm having doubts so can you please confirm this as you are working there. • @gloriaalva8781
      @gloriaalva8781 Před 2 lety +1

      Dear Mansi.
      The experience certificate should contain a summary of what all you did. The idea is to showcase what you have done independently or under supervision . For example - did you do spinal anaesthesia independently, did you give GA independently or with registrar, were you able to do intubation on your own, did you manage the post operative ward independently, did you do manage the ICU on your own. Any notable complex case you participated in. Did you do any presentation at the society of anaesthesologists , did you get a certificate of participation or an award for it. Did you organise any educational event. Were you a moderator for any educational event.
      These are just a few examples,.
      There are many more and it will vary from specialty to specialty.
      Hope it throws some light.

    • @gloriaalva8781
      @gloriaalva8781 Před 2 lety +1

      Dear Sakshi. Its best to apply for jobs soon after plab 2. When you do the application , you can mention that you are in process of GMC registration and awaiting the results of PLAB 2. The reason is that there is job application window after which no more applications will be accepted. Let's say you sat your exam in end feb with results coming out in end march. If there was a job for which the last date of the application was 15th march and you did not apply because you waited for the result , then when the result came out in end march, the date for application has already closed. They do not take back door applications. That's the rule .
      So you would miss out on the opportunity if that was something you were really interested in. The key is letting them know that you are in the process and your application is processed based on that fact. Lets take another scenario where you applied by 15th march and you got an interview call but you did not clear the exam, just tell them you did not clear the exam and not go for the interview. You have more to lose by not applying than by applying. Hope that clears it.
      All the best.

      Yes, they do. You have clinical scenarios given to you and you have to start right from history, examination, investigations, differentials to management for those clinical scenarios.

      Well, it’s general clinical and medical knowledge. Don’t worry.. you will be fine. You would have encountered these situations in your internship or junior doctor days.
