    Why is everyone surprised as Vlasov's performance here? I've always thought he was a strong rider.
    I can't help but notice Remco's extremely dark Belgian National champs jersey, I hope he has an alternative for the sweltering TDF days, he's going to be an oven in that thing considering he already cooks himself given the fact he loves his short sleeves.

    I think Roglic is just taking his time, wanting to peak at the right time for the Tour without burning himself out beforehand. He hasn't had good results trying to maintain top form for months prior; I think he's just pacing his preparation.

  • @Thaddeus_Howe
    @Thaddeus_Howe Před 2 měsíci +22

    It seems like everyone has forgotten that Vlasov got 5th at the Tour in 2022 and 4th at the Giro in 21, not to mention second at Paris-Nice in 21 as well. He’s a legit rider who’s just never had a very good team. If he’s doing this well already imagine how much more of a threat he could’ve been this season had Visma not poached Uijtdebroeks. Very interested to see what he does for the rest of the year though.

    • @caet49
      @caet49 Před 2 měsíci

      Vlasov is a great rider however as long as Primoz is riding he is second even if Primoz cracked, he is only getting a short if Primoz is not able to compete which he is in every race he starts in. He is just to expensive to play second violin. Vlasov is not gonna get the backup he deserves on Bora.

      Why would anyone seriously discuss someone who should not be competing at all, same as russians in almost every sport. Enough grip to train, not enough balls to create any sort of anti-war movement inside their own sport? Comeon, that one deserve katusha and compete in spartakiada only.

    • @Thaddeus_Howe
      @Thaddeus_Howe Před 2 měsíci

      @@oleksiipedosenko5219 I agree with you when it comes to competing under the Russian flag or for a Russian national team, and I do think sports agencies should go a little further and prevent Russian athletes from competing at all in National-Team International events (like the Olympics or World Champs) under a "neutral athlete" designation. But I do think that for commercial competition like World Tour cycling, Russians should not be prevented from competing, as they are competing for a 3rd-party team, not their country (especially now that the Russian flag isn't next to his name).

    • @Thaddeus_Howe
      @Thaddeus_Howe Před 2 měsíci

      @@caet49 That's definitely true for the premier races. But Roglic isn't going to the Giro and might not go to the Vuelta if he really is all-in for the Tour, and Vlasov has the right characteristics to do well at both of those races this year. The Vuelta is definitely in his wheelhouse with shorter climbs and few TT kilometers, but if his 5th place at the Vuelta TT last year is actually indicative of his TT speed he could still do very well at the Giro too. But you're definitely right that his performance depends so much on who Bora sends with him and how confident they are in him.

    • @caet49
      @caet49 Před 2 měsíci

      @@oleksiipedosenko5219 Yes true - but here you are, so it’s almost impossible to do what you ask. I think he was sick or simply not yet in shape. Chris Horner noted that in his interview at the start of the stage or maybe even after the previous day's stage, Roglič said that he didn't need to win Paris-Nice because he was solely focused this year on winning the TdF. So I think he either knew he might blow today, or, having said he didn't need to win, simply didn't give it his all. This is nothing but a training race for him.

    I would have preferred to see Remco ease off on Eze and see if Jorgensen would pull to keep the Yellow jersey group at bay. I think it was either a strategic mistake or he feared Jorgi, dont but the "feared Vlasov" reasoning. Let J show his hand. He would have either pulled eventually or attacked. But that's what Remco probably feared. The descent wasn't so crazy, but Remco doesn't know Nice that well. In the end they both robbed us of some extra racing because Jorgensen could have attacked as well, on the last kms of Eze, then build a few extra seconds before the last climb then both would've gone all out and we would have been on the edges of our seats. They chose a moderate amount of glory. The phone slam wasn't suitable celebration theatrics.

      @@epincion it isn‘t a conspiracy to say riders are doing better when they arrive at visma. The results prove it, but i never said they have to cheat, just that Performance Levels are higher. The how is the question. I mean jorgensen had to even pay for his own altitude training Camps at movistar. So i‘m guessing the facilities at visma are better, but still they are pushing very much the Limits like with ketones.

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 2 měsíci

      @@maxwundu VLB Andy all the well funded teams do this for their riders plus they are super selective about who they sign in the first place.
      Jorgenson’s need to self find aspects of his desired training at Movistar is a common complaint, Christophe Laporte said that before he joined TJV in all 7 years at Cofidis he never went on altitude training camp nor had wind tunnel testing and there was no individual dietary plan for team members and that none of the WT level French teams did it either. This is why no French rider has won a grand tour or even a week long tour like PN for 17 years.
      As to supplemental ketones in my opinion are a fad that will fade as there is no evidence they do good in terms of performance or endurance it’s a lot of hype. It’s a topic I have researched as part of my profession as a medical specialist. The real benefit is coming from the strict diet and exercise regimen that goes with taking ketones.
      My concern is that so many claim that the consistent good performances of a team like VLB means the riders must be doping. It’s bullshit.
      Many comments point to Roglic underperforming in this Paris-Nice as being proof as they say he no longer has ‘the juice’.
      For his underwhelming performance there are lots of factors, but the elephant in the room is that he is aging and his best days are behind him, and yes he felt pushed out of what was the top star position at TJV and that must have been a massive shock psychologically for a man who values loyalty.
      In my opinion he felt he was owed another shot at winning the TDF as the undisputed team leader but with Jonas rising to his prime that was never going to happen.
      So he moved to Bora who are taking a bet on him and building a proper TDF team around him and planning on everyone in the team peaking in July.
      Hence Roglic has been clear that he and Bora did not come to the Paris-Nice to win but to train individually and as a team under WT level competition conditions.
