- China - the superpower the world fears, but few really know. Ken Hom, the godfather of Chinese cuisine, and Ching-He Huang, leading chef of the contemporary generation, together undertake an epic 3000-mile culinary adventure across China - not only to reveal its food, but its people, history, culture and soul.
They begin in Beijing, the imperial capital for 800 years. It is a city where tradition and innovation sit side by side, and where quintessential Chinese dishes - noodles, dumplings and Peking duck - are being showcased with a new culinary confidence. As well as cooking for world-class chefs in the fiery kitchens of the city's most celebrated restaurants, Ken and Ching visit the homes of ordinary Beijingers to learn traditional cooking methods. And in a break-away from the city, they travel to the forgotten village of Chuandixia, where ancient traditions are being celebrated and preserved.
One of the most accurate videos I've ever seen. I'm an American born Chinese, and made me realize how much I miss everything.
'We eat to live,' what a brilliant quote! One of the best shows I have watched, well done

This is one of the best shows I have seen on CZcams. Two great chefs, who obviously have a great respect and fondness for each other, explore their roots in Taiwan and China. Thanks for sharing!
This’s one of the best introducing/exploring the Chinese cooking/culinary program I’ve seen. Indeed, very interesting.
A great cameraman working beautifully shown in this video.
Ken Hom and Ching-He Huang have done their part perfectly.
Thank you for uploading. I’m appreciated.
I love Ching's personality. She acts like a curious little girl, and it was very touching how she spoke about her grandparents. Ken Hom also seems like such a gentleman.
"you have hair. I don't" lol quote of the year

MUCH Thanks for the upload. Will have to save this for later.this is like finding (food) treasure on youtube.
Tsing is so cute!
Chinese people can cook so many kinds of foods and snacks in different province....From north to south china, from east to west china....each city has different cooking way and food culture.... The foods in china must be colorful, scent, and taste together...with respect of only food, you can know more about culture and tradition....I love china!!!!
In the Culinary world, when it comes to food art, and the art of cooking, that's how chef's work. It's like trading cooking secrets. They share ideas, which is always welcome. When she was in the Chinese village, it's hard to show a traditional Chinese woman how to cook in her kitchen because you don't want to disrespect her. What makes a good chef is being open to sharing the ideas and not being negative about "oh, look who can cook better" that's not how it is in the culinary world.
That was awesome. I loved it. Thank you
I love this soooo much
That was so amazing to watch, I've really enjoyed it.

作為在中國人好驕傲。。。。好餓、、、大晚上看到這麼多好吃的、、、、i am proud of being a chinese....omg.....so hungry at night when i saw the dilicious food~~~~

I dont understand why haters keep watching vids bout china lol.and its bout cuisine.amazing vid love it!
An excellent series covering Chinese cuisine (and to some extent history and culture) from high class restaurant kitchens to cooking in the forest. An enjoyable journey that will make you want to go to your local Asian supplies store and dust the cobwebs off your wok.
fantastic
As a Chinese, I really dont appreciate how these two western guys interpret us in their own way, which they are so confident and think they know us well. They always presents a sense that today's Chinese are overwhelmed by the fast rate development and kind of get lost, and when talking about the history, the stupid, sympathetic look start to show on their faces.
While I can understand that as they have been away from this far far home town for such a long time, and their professions are cooking, they perform their cooking to get some communication with the home town so as to make themselves feel that even they've been away for such a long time, there is still something making them connected, which touches me a lot actually.
The best food documentary of all time. Heading back to China and Chongqing later this year, cannot wait for the hot pot and Sichuan pepper.
much thanks for uploading this great series. We can't view bbc series on the official webcanal here in europe, you made it possible!
It is a very good programme. I wish c
And Qing speaks Mandarin, Ken Cantonese.
and Qing just put her fingers in the stuff she pulled right out from the wok. ok much more respect now!
fascinating show - wonderful hosts
To all you people criticising the BBC for letting two western raised chinese introducing chinese food, what the hell is wrong with you people?, I would rather have two people who understand a little bit of chinese culture (who I can understand) to anyone who doesn't or who is completely chinese who speaks little english.
Completely agree, some bizarre racists hate inspired here by a simple cooking show. Depressing. CZcams is the worst community.
They think what introduced by these two western isn't really delicious Chinese cuisine. And especially the self-conceited lady's cooks worse than a common Chinese people. I thought so too before seeing what you said.
Now I agree with you though I'm still not fond of the lady Huang.
the old chap is ithe real deal, the girl you only have to look at her hand to tell she hasnt spent much time in the kitchen. also many of the places they go have already been showen on anthony bordians shows. All of that aside if your keen on foods definately worth a trip to china recommend it to anyone its a realy eye opener.
Chinese food is sooo goooooooooood
thank you so much
It's making me very hungry watching this.
I love Modern Oriental food is really simple, complex in flavors but easy, I
Damn that looks good!
this vid is making me hungry for authentic chinese food!!
You can see Beijing is changed like a vegetable is growing up! What an interesting way to describe my home town :)
i miss homecooking.... eating instant noodles while watching this
well said
Nace
Chinese food is the best!!!
well, you're not wrong but we can view this in another angle. Perhaps, they're just exchanging their thoughts and appreciation towards the chinese cuisine. if i were one of their hosts, i will be happy to know that chinese from different parts of the world are embracing and preserving their amazing cultures and traditions.
The last scene of chef Da dong represents the high end revolutional
Good attitude.
tank you for this video it took me to dream world very nice food nice people nice city healty foods :)
ed joseph, the superpower the world should fear, but few truly know
i think its cool to see the differnt ways of life from china. its so strang to me and it makes me want to travil even more.
Agree on the kitchen "takeovers"...disagree on the complaint of no "high end" cuisine...homecooking is awesome! Food cooked by and for "normal" people...
The lady chef is so cute.
If you wanna be a great cook, gotta learn the culinary techniques of China, France, and Japan.
Hi, may i know what is the address of the beijing house that teaches the dumplings? I also would like to learn! Thanks!
OMG,I got to go to Beijing and eat.
hey, love it when she shouts (get in)also when that man blows into the chicked ,lucky he didn"t blow into her, hahahah
Ken "Yoda" Hom!
Just like their food ^_^
Seen all four.
19:10
She was searching for a 'shocked' response from the chef Ken, only for him to nod meaning 'this is normal you spoiled child' .
I think you underestimate Ken Hom's influence on introducing the British to Chinese cookery in the 1990s. It makes perfect sense: the guy is a legend!
love chines ppl from sudan ...they sweet and nice
It's called Tai Ji, or Tai Chi, 太极 in Chinese. It is an internal martial art, Chinese meditation system and health practice.
There are a lot of chinese in sudan too, its great! :D
C'mon chaps... forget the politics eh? ..Whatever way I get to learn and appreciate one of the worlds greatest cuisines (and we all have to start somewhere!) will suit this Gwai Lo just fine..
I got onto it via Ken Hom back in the 80's and I now appreciate his approach may be westernised but? I live in hopes of visiting China to meet a wonderful people and taste their fantastic food in the true style. Point made over and out. :)
Wow calm down...
well said. she,s lovely and beautiful.
It's called "Punching in a Dream" by The Naked and Famous.
Can somebody tell me why the Chinese put this beautiful food on those brightly colored dished or plates? I never understood that! This food should ONLY go on a WHITE or maybe grey plates to showcase the FOOD since it is such beautiful food.
what a sweet old man
11:29 Where the chef comes from, a thumbs up means "this dish is cr@p b%tch!" LOL
Homage ALL the things.
I like noodles
Anyone know the tune @02:45? Love that erhu.
Ching-He Huang...would you marry me?
She could be your mum
does ken have an accent when he speaks cantonese or is it just his dialect? curious :D
Anyone knows which song is used at 11:00 mins?
of course you can eat it in a number of ways but then it wouldn't be the original recipe, it would just be either a bare bones fashion of eating it or a fusion with other recipes. there is also the eggroll wrap method but i see it losing out to the sweet white bun. the xo sauce is quite important in both cases
Food
Any shots of Ching with her noodles out?
Does anybody know the name of the song at 1:48? Thank you.
Punching In A Dream, by The Naked and Famous.
Thank you, Douglas Drumond.
I'm curious what would a traditional Chinese family have for dinner ?
