  • This is a video that shows how simple it is to change a stoma bag. This video is aimed at people that are new to having a stoma or for people that are considering colostomy surgery. The stoma bags used in this video are Coloplast Sensura Mio closed bags. I also use Bravo Adhesive remover along with wet and dry wipes. You will see skin and my stoma. I had colostomy surgery in November 2017 due to Crohns Disease. The colostomy has transformed my life and I just wanted to show people it is a simple process.

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před 4 lety +1

      I wear trousers and a belt for work and sometimes a utility belt. You can get some really good stoma belts that encase the whole bag, these belts go on under your shirt and hold everything in place. You can also get stoma guards that cover the bag, both of these things will protect the bag from the weight of the keys pulling on your trousers. Sorry for the delay in replying

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před 4 lety +1

      @@beacon9342 the best bet is to google search stoma guards and stoma pouches. If you wear a heavy belt with keys and accessories then stoma guards may work better for you. They are quite hard and protect the stoma, the belt goes over them without being able to put pressure on them. Infact do a search on youtube for vegan ostomy, the guy that does these video has a video about what men can wear with a stoma, there is a good demo on that vid for a stoma guard.

    • @anastaciamenemenils8508
      @anastaciamenemenils8508 Před 2 lety +1

      What happens to the rest of the intestines depends on if there is a plan to reattach the intestine, a stoma reversal, or if your stoma is permanent. If the stoma is permanent usually the rest of the intestines below it will be removed to reduce the risk of colon cancer. If reattachment is planned, intestines will remain.

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před 4 lety +1

      I cannot remember the last time my bag leaked. However that's not to say I havent had that problem because I have. It comes down to whether you are using the right type of bag for the size of your stoma. I had leaking problems because my stoma reduced in size and was almost flush with my skin, so the poo was going under the base plate rather than into the bag. As soon as I changed to a convex bag which pushes on the skin around the stoma causes the stoma to protrude I have not had a single leak. It's been a longtime since I had a leak.

    • @jimnightowl2992

    • @sydneystoma385
      @sydneystoma385  Před 4 lety +3

      @@jimnightowl2992 I had a funny feeling that's what you might of meant. I have had the same bag on for two days as we speak. This depends on what type of ostomy you have and what type of bowel disease you have. My intestines move quite slowly so I can go two days without changing it. There will be poo in there but it can be quite minimal so need to change it. If I eat a lot and drink beer that increases my poo output and I might have to change the bag once or twice a day. I have a colostomy so output is thicker and slower for me. However people with an ileostomy generally use what are known as open bags, they will be able to empty their bags without removing them. They have a seal on the bottom which can be opened and closed, people with ileostomies have more liquid poo and it comes out a lot more frequent. So they need to empty their bags a good number of times a day. People with ileostomies have had their large intestine removed so the poo doesnt have time to thicken. Where with a colostomy like mine a lot of the large intestine is still present so the poo has time to thicken and reduces the amount that comes out compared to an ileostomy.

      Hi Jaggu. Thank you for watching. I did a video that might help. I believe it's titled 'can I go in water.' I do cover going in the shower in that video. However if that isn't enough let me know and I will do another one.

    It takes me less than a minute to change mine. You don't have to do all that unnecessary crap.
