3:38 Chris got that wrong, she had £75,000 not £50,000. I didn't watch Millionaire much when it had the 12 question format, but when I did it seemed like 90% of players walked away at £20,000. The difficulty of the questions in the lower thousands started to get tougher and decimated the lifelines. Players would so often get stranded on the £50,000 question and not risk wildly guessing to reach the upper part of the money tree. I think that the real the purpose behind the revised prize money was to reduce the average amount of money that was given per show. The ratings were far lower by this point, and I think they intended to prevent most players from reaching past £20,000. In the early days, the game tended to start getting seriously challenging at around the £16,000 question. But from 2007, they were making the game more pressured at £2,000 and spent a lot of time in that lower tier. Most players tended to reach £32,000 in the previous version, where here they rarely hit that second safety point of £50,000. Even less so, when the introduced the clock.
