      Bhahhahha...best comment ever......Do you mean to tell me that making good choices, raising healthy food and not spending my hard earned money on fertilizer that lasts a month v/s carbon that lasts a lifetime makes me a Democrat? I'd have to disagree...furthermore are ya inferring that a republican would be too bullheaded, stubborn or stupid to eat right and treat their land like they wanna improve this planet while they're here v/s destroy it and wash my topsoil down to the river? I'm confused...or were ya just trying to make Republicans look bad? If spraying herbicides and pesticides, giving steroids and antibiotics to my animals and wasting money on fertilizer makes me a Democrat...then I'd have to ask ya this.......Is ya ignorant buddy?

      If anything, I’d say that Josh is leaning more towards libertarian. Why? Because he’s doing it the way he wants to. A libertarian, is one who enjoys LIBERTY! All others, are sheep! They elect those they want to following, because they can’t lead themselves. Whereas, they should be electing those that do the “will of the people”, not telling the people what they want. You do you, as long as it doesn’t infringe on anyone else’s right to life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It really is that simple.

      Electric tools shouldn’t be made into political agenda. Tell me you don’t have a battery drill or impact. Think if they were gas or diesel powered, you wouldn’t use them. Politics is telling you to hate things you use everyday.

    100% agree brother! almost impossible to get everything done at the farm with just one tractor. I'm a hay producer from deep south Texas and we use 2 tractors on our farm. A Kubota L6060 Cabbed tractor with HST transmission and our work horse for big shredding jobs and dedicated baler use is our Kubota M5-111. It would be really difficult to run our business and farm with just one. I mean it could be done, but it sure would be a lot more work.

  • @johnsadler8637

    One thing you’re absolutely in resonance with my position on the E tractor is that it is a tool, and it works when functional capabilities match the task needs. As batteries have improved, capabilities have expanded. There are many tasks that require too much power to deliver via battery, that logistics preclude returning to a charging station, that time on task exceeds run time, or that the re-fueling step must be quick. Those advocates who don’t consider those limits are making political rather than functional decisions. I quite enjoy the electric chainsaw my sister got, and the weed eater / hedge trimmer I got, for smaller jobs near the base of operations. Gas chainsaws and trimmers can take me farther away and deal with bigger jobs. Our shop/shed is on the north end of a 2.4x0.75 mile sized farm, and only about 1/3 of the open ground is near the shop. The rest has a 2-mile one-way commute. Logistics dominates the decisions of what tool to choose. Hiking back for a can of gas isn’t fun, but it’s doable. I doubt an E tractor would reach feasibility in my lifetime.

    I really do like TYM tractors for the reasons you gave and they look better than a Kubota or Kioti. Their dealerships are popping up every where here in Maine. They just built a new one in Houlton, Maine which is an hour south of me. We used to use powdered limestone aka as lime to rebalance the soil Ph before applying a mix of compost and manure to the schools student gardens and our FFA potato field. My academic teacherfs hated when I'd come to class smelling of hard work cause we used a manure spreader for tossing our compost manure mixture on the fields.

    I love what you are doing to restore soil fertility without chemicals. That is a great idea to bale graze your pastures to add to soil health.
    Have you thought about leasing your pastures to someone who wants to commercially raise pastured chickens and pastured egg production? The big byproduct to the farm is the chicken manure, cow manure spreading, and insect control left behind as permanent assets to the farm. If you lease it for these purposes, you do not need to manage them, market them and you get a free farm setter for a few days in exchange for you feeding and putting up the chickens a few days a summer. I think the assets are great enough that you would be money ahead to least the pastures for free.

      why would I lease my working farm brother? I'd just raise them myself...however, there's nobody around that's farming here. Can you describe the technique you're using on these pre-grazing / hay fields other than what is obvious (mowing down to recycle organic matter into the soil)? I’m not here for the boo electric or any of that I’m impressed with the hydraulics on that little thing. How does the tractor itself handle the load with the bales? Does the hind end get light I figured a smaller framed tractor wouldn’t like them to well

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Keeping the mower on the back helps to counter balance the weight...so it doesn't get light. I guess as with any tractor you need to make sure you're properly ballasted (balanced)

    I agree with you that it’s is just a tool and a good one at that. I think the biggest problem electric stuff has is the politics behind it. With all the hate farmers have had pushed on them by regulators, their first reaction is to push back because they’ve seen what happens when you go along with the agenda.

    • @StoneyRidgeFarmer
      @StoneyRidgeFarmer  Před 9 měsíci +3

      I don't see it being "pushed" so much as technology is just advancing....120 years ago they were "pushing" tractor power instead of mules and oxen....it's just technology advancing over time my brother...electric, steam, gas, diesel....now back to electric

    Hey Josh! I am Canadian and was just on a 3 week road trip through OH, KY, and TN. I think the mindset about evs must be an American mindset. Looking at the E tractor of yours. I'm not opposed to it but there are a lot of unknowns about them. Farmers like the familiar. The first questions off the top of my head are, how long does are charge last? How long does it take to get a full charge from 10%? What is the battery cell degradation amount per year and how much is it to replace the cell? These are the first couple of questions I have regarding the tractor.

      It is not a farming tractor. It is a yard tractor. Made for yard work. If you wanna see an equivalent electric tractor doing stuff like that try looking at Monarch tractors. Those are made for industrial farming and equate to a 40-70 hp equivalent.

It's not a row crop tractor, but it will do anything that any other tractor does....it's just smaller my friend. You dont have to run 500 acres to have a farm, and ya don't have to run a 100hp tractor to farm.
