Hi, how often do you spray your land with chemicals? Is it bees friendly 🤔.
Super soil isn’t a chemical. It’s water and microorganisms my friend
I believe it is the natural biome, bacteria that should be in the soil anyway, however due to previous faming operations the soil had been exposed to chemicals and the natural bacteria was killed off. You can collect swamp soil and introduce it to your garden to get the same effect. Some of the worst things you can do to soil are put pesticides in them because it kills the natural bacteria. Food grown in this type of soil tastes so much better. Many people have not tasted such food.
With all your fancy gadgets, I can't believe you dont' have a quick hitch on that tractor. GAME CHANGER!
Dear Josh,
This is one of the few channels that I never miss a video. You have also inspired my wife and I to build raised beds and start a garden. Thank you.
Real nice sprayer
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed that woo
Folks if you're interested in Supersoil for your lawn or farm...here's a link to it and a link to the spray rig from AgSpray Supersoil Link: www.supersoil.ie/stoneyridge AgSpray Link: www.agspray.com/search/?searchkeyword=mc+series
Josh, I wish you would have a contest where the winner got to stay and work their butt off on your farm for a week, to get some "hands on" experience in learning how to use all that great equipment.
That would be better than any old spa or a trip to Reno.
Dude Ranch, for the helping hand and Guest Ranch, to race an angry bull to the fence.
Josh
Really like your videos and completely explained why you do it. Regeneration farming and ranching has really gotten my interest recently. I relocated from Florida to Idaho and I found some ranchers here doing regeneration but they don’t really explain practical applications. Great content and passion.
Very nice can't wait to see the results.
Between this microorganisms and the minerals then chickens your pastures should flourish with high grade fodder. Happy cows.
I sure hope so!
thanks for the video. hope you have a great day and weekend.
Magic Spoon cereal is awesome!!
New subscriber here. Found your channel after just watching an episode of Hank and Willey over on Hamiltonvill Farm. Hank brought up that he had been your Drill Sargent in the military. So figured I'd check ya out. Seem like you have a good channel. Looking forward to watching some more videos.
awesome! Welcome to the channel!
Morning Josh your farm is looking good the grass is really greening up there
Something new on the farm….what a surprise….like that song cha cha changes.
building a farm....yep...that requires new things to get the job done...putting up new fencing tomorrow my brother
That's great! I use a microbe product called 'Recharge' that's meant for much smaller scale (my raised beds), as I know that garbage the planes are spraying is killing our soil microbes..
Looking forward to October! 😉👍
Just a note. Two things to think about. The spray pattern you are trying to achieve, have the height of the boom to have a small over lap. It can be easily set up just using water in your vat. Secondly your random pattern may be ok, but having the loader on the front you can add a bar to it and drag a chain on each end to mark your spare lines. Just some advice from an old cockie - farmer!
Since the nozzles spray at an angle you could say you get a 20 ft swath of spray from those booms. At 4mph you would be able to cover about 9.6 acres an hour. I did not catch how many gallons of mix per acre you were supposed to apply. As someone already suggested, you could test run your actual gallons per minute(or hour) by a staic run of your sprayer with water only. If your tank is graduated you could get that rate in a few minutes, if it weren't, you could mark the water line and run your sprayer for the few minutes and then measure how much it takes to refill the tank thus determining your flow.
I hope the product does as advertised.
Very cool implement.
Could you post before after videos regarding the results of this product?
I will for sure...I actually only sprayed half of one pasture just to see what the difference might be
Josh, I hope you are spraying when temperaturss are coolest during the day. When you spray at a high pressure makes a finer mist which could possibly let more spray evaporate in the high summer temperatures. Something else to consider on which kinda of spray tips work best. The regular fan spray or flood tips. Sorry I hope I am not over stepping. The micro nutrients are a great soil builder. I have been using some liquid calcium to help build our pastures ph back up along with rotational grazing. Enjoy your videos and love to share with you also.
Josh reminds me of "The Collector" but with farming stuff ...
takes equipment to run things my friend
Good video, maybe a good sprayer.i tried to order the 90 gallon unit from the Hopkinsville, Kentucky store today. I was told pay in full then they will order the parts. When the parts come in they will assemble the unit. Then we can pick it up. The process will take aeveral months. I guess they don't need the sale. I know i will find a different machine.
Your having too much fun! Exciting buy!
Hope TYM 574 is as good as you and Hank say it is
Just ordered one
One kilogram equals 2.2 pounds. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always been pretty good with metrics.
noun: fertilizer
a chemical or natural substance added to soil or land to increase its fertility. Yes, you are fertilizing your land.
I guess anything could be considered fertilizer couldn't it...so is it fertilizer or and amendment? Answer....Amendment...the microbes work later in the soil to fix nitrogen....so we're applying a soil amendment that will break down and fix nitrogen
Great video. Good looking piece of equipment.
You may have answered this question in earlier
videos (slowly watching older videos)
What equipment needs to be stored under cover
and what can be left out with proper maintenance?
Wow thank you for sharing , I’m going to take a closer look at Magic Spoon cereal. It looks like something I need to get . It sounds like the price is justified .
I've been eating it almost every day now! Great dry...but better with some milk!!
8:18, If i am not mistaken their website says see results in 2 to 3 weeks, not months.
it does...I mispoke at the end
I work in cancer research and for the last decade there has been much more attention directed at the human gut biome and our ability to fight off cancer. I feel strongly there is a similar relationship with the biome in the earth from which our food comes from. Thus the health of these cattle is very important. I wish Josh had dairy cattle on these fields too. It would be interesting to collect some data on the quality of the dairy products and their impact on end users.
we are so out of touch with our food and eating local in this industrialized food system....how would ya like to have a nice glass of mild from a dairy cow with a systemic fly killer ear tag pumping poison through it's bloodstream to kill flies!!! no thanks!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer So glad you are teaching others
Lots of people in Ireland have tried super soil last year but they didn’t buy it again this year as our fertiliser prices are more reasonable this year
fertilizer is just another "pill" to put on the land and in my opinion can be much more destructive than good. Hit the land with fertilizer...destroy the microbes that feed the land....then do it again next season...over and over you become dependent on the local Co-op instead of building soil....we just put a pill on it to make grass turn green. Hopefully SuperSoil does good for us!
Nice looking sprayer. You should find a used GPS and put on the tractor, and u can use that, and it will show u were u have sprayed and were u have not or I am sure u could buy a sope marker kit for the sprayer
oh....I can see my tire marks here....and if I over lap...it's just as good for the soil. On a farm this small...you just learn to tell where you've been
👍
Throw the magic spoon in the dumpster and eat bacon & eggs for breakfast and a pound & half Rib - I for lunch! That's all and you will turn into a strong farm boy!😁
lol....well....I like it all buddy....but I do enjoy a late night bowl of cereal from time to time...FYI...I stopped eating breakfast about a year ago....hence the weight fell right off...we've been told that "breakfast is the most important meal of the day"....yep..it is....but not first thing in the morning when you wake up
have you tried lawn Liquid Aerator curious your opinion on it, does it actually work, maybe not for the farm itself but just by your house
Just wondering Josh, Why you don't use composted chicken manure/sawdust to put on your fields? Around here, just every few years, the farmers use it and it produces some very nice fields and beautiful hay.
It’s simply not available around here
@Stoney Ridge Farmer
WOOOOOO! That can't have been 25 gallons per minute.
Two IBC totes full of blue mystery liquid? Was there a deal on Windex that was just too good to pass up? Is there going to be a window washing video in our future?
lol...it's not...and I was way off...more on this later! lol
I know a guy who develops large vats of super microbes & they sell for bank Josh I hope this bears fruit in more viable vitalized dirt and the root grasses connection to feed your cattle great food. It's going to be interesting to see if it's a change much as you fertilize bovine manure and break it up but will this add more active positive bioms is that right (sp)?
What happened to Ms Stoney Ridge? We miss her!
facebook.com/stoneyridgefarmer livestream last night we talked about it...she is gone buddy
Hope the math was wrong, but - @25 g/m , 90 gals would only cover just over a 1/2 ac. Just thought I'd check, lol... Definitely will be interested if it works. How long since tobacco was grown there? Don't think I've ever caught that history, lol. Thanx !
it's been about 15-20 years since any tobacco was grown here....most of the old fields grew up over about 40 years
Ahh, Otay, I know from reading how depleted the soils had become with a single crop (grew up here, in W. MI, so have known how important rotating crops is), & that the tobacco plants did a bit worse. Hence why a lot of those old farms grew over with scrub & whatnot... Didn't know how much was legacy farm areas... Thanx !
Looks a lot like my rk55 with 110 loader
What state is stoney ridge farmer in? Enjoy seeing farming stuff good job.
NC
Surely you’re operating pressure should only be 45psi not 115psi
Did the manufacturer suggest spraying at a specific time or weather conditions? I'd worry about the sun killing off your microbes if you did it during the middle of a hot sunny day. Or washed away from a heavy rain.
great question...so it's ok to spray in the hot part of the day...won't hurt anything...but better to spray around sunset so the dew gets on the leaves and drips to the ground. Spraying again today out in front of the house..at sundown
Would be interested to see how this might effect your cattle.
they should get fatter lol...I asked SuperSoil after this application if I could move the cows onto the land....they said no problem
Josh, how well does that PTO stump grinder work? I had all my pine cut several years ago, and have a lot of stumps to get rid of. Rented a giant excavator and dug some of them, but that’s just not practical for me.
I have a "stumpster 40". It is basically a bushhog gear box with a large heavy disc with replaceable carbide cutting tips. The disc is on a cassette and you back up to the stump and control the disc with your hydraulic valve. It does not grind the stump but cuts them off at ground level. Pretty cool tool.
if you have a bunch of stumps...hire a forestry mulcher ....if not this little grinder works great!
My brother sprayed 20 acres for a customer and it didn’t suit his Hardi sprayer it blocked the filters about every 700 litres / 150 gallons . It’s on about 10 weeks now but so far no changes in the grass volume
no clog issue what so ever on this one....we'll see how it works soon
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I look forward to the results my brother checked his customer s field again last night after watching your video but still no change in grass he had also done a 80 foot strip across a field hoping for a good result but not yet
Have you had your farm soil tested for PFAS Chemicals?🤔
Any update on the Super Soil spraying? Did it work?
Did Super Soil say anything about daytime vs night applications affecting the biology? Meaning, does the full sun UV harm the biology and nighttime applications yield better results?
after spraying I emailed them to ask...best time to spray would be just before a light shower...or evening in the hot summer that way the dew will settle on it and wash it down into the soil. It won't hurt anything to let the product dry on the plants and the cows can graze it immediately after application...I found that interesting too
Josh, I know you have some nice compost piles on the farm. Is there a way of actually spreading compost on your pastures? Would it be beneficial? I'm sure it would have very positive effects.
farmers spread manure all the time but Josh lets his cattle deposit said manure naturally. There is a symbiotic relationship between the gut biome of the cattle and the biome in the soil, it will go back to the cow's gut once they graze off the grass and the cycle will repeat.
He just did a video with the drag harrow where he spread manure/busted it up. I know they make a compost spreader, I think it’s called a top dresser but are expensive pieces of equipment. Sure it would be beneficial to do but compost is expensive/takes a lot of resources- be better to put in a garden. Best bang for the buck in spreading that fresh manure
yep...I have a manure spreader for that...and you'll see me doing it soon!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Thank you bro!
What pressure did you spray at? You mentioned 115 psi up front but the gauge is 100 max. Thinking more like 50 psi running?
Nice rig. I have a RK74 getting acclimated to my place
so...after speaking to the AgSpray folks...I learned alot. The tips I was running were too small...and the PSI should have been about 40 instead of the 115. I'm not sure why 115 was even in the chart in the manual. So...new tips are on the way and the rig will be set up a little different for next spray
Isn't this like worm castings tea?
a little different
Hey Josh, Are you happy with the results you got with Super Soil?
so far....and we'll be testing another product later this year along side super soil! Stay tuned!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I’m looking forward to it!
You have probably mentioned somewhere but how is it you get so much stuff and stay afloat? 💲 just trying to apply to my situation.
you understand that I'm a youtuber along with the farm right? I have nearly 800,000 subscribers my friend...I earn a living making these videos
I'm not a farmer, but I would think that surely someone has created a Rate app to use on your phone. That way all the pesky math would be done for you.
My gut tells me this is snake oil, but i hope not. Curious to hear and see results.
Here's my concern with using that type of product. Where do those microbes come from? Are they even suitable for your area? You could introduce a million of those little yipe yipe dogs to the African safari for example.. Some might live but for how long? Do you even know how many of those microbe are still alive after having that bag sitting on your shelf for months? It seems to me that you'd be better served spraying compost or worm tea made from compost and worm castings produced on your farm. At least that way you know the microbes being sprayed are native to your area, suitable for your climate and won't disturb the balance of your local ecosystem.
when i saw the steering wheel i thought; transformers??? NO! did he really get one of those data miners?
and when i saw that cute (very cool!) tractor i knew you wouldnt, ever. it wasnt even a TRANSFORMERS "t",im sure...lol
thanks to you,i already feel guily for the bees that havent yet died, but might. all bc you taught me that most catastrophes in the hive are due to us,the keepers, not doing ALL we should, and what i actually OWE those mighty bee-people to do.
i love people who wants to share their thoughts and experiences, without too much marketing bs. dont know yet,but you seem to fit the bill. if not,il scuttle back the way i came.
i hope the flu,i mean covid left you with enough to get a solid foundation back running. funny that there were almost no regular flu cases during the whole c period,no?
I think they ought to come up with quicker "quick attachments". Just saying. 🙂
I have a quick hitch...but hey...farming...it's work and there's no button to push for everything my friend. Farming is hard work...hooking and unhooking implements can be a pain!!
Looks like worm tea?
your discount code to Super soil microbe fertilizer isn't working :(
hmm...I'll look into that
Do you have to use non-chlorinated water?
typically that would be best...however...that's a question for Super Soil...ya may want to pull up the site and contact them
❤️👍🙋♂️
The permanent marker on that beautiful yellow plastic irritated me for some reason lol. Practical, yes. OCD pleasing absolutely not. Long time fan
I write on every piece of equipment. Date placed in service and pertinent info to keep me from having to look something up every time I operate a machine
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer makes total sense and very practical I’m just a little crazy
Is Hamilton farms your Sargent from the service just wondering he said you were
he was my drill sergeant in the air force basic training
How about some new live videos
facebook.com/stoneyridgefarmer
Might as wel piss on it for the good that'll do,hope I'm wrong
I hope you're right...if I was spraying urine on the soil...aka Urea..then it would most certainly green up the field. We never know how things work until we try new things on our land....one of the many benefits of a first generation farm...I never have to hear "Well, we do it this way because that's the way grandpa did it"
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer yes im not saying thats how grampa did it but I've seen so many similar things over the years thats come to nothing but what you do with hay rolled out for your cattle and wood chips to.add carbon and rotted manure but you don't house your cattle over winter i think do you?
Just say No to bread.
That cereal 🤣 poor mans CoCo Puffs 🤣🤣
Rule #1, dont eat anything that wasnt available back in 1910..
Bon appetit 👍
Isn’t it time for your cows to mate
if the bull is in the herd...they are mating my friend lol
This would have been a good use of the electric tractor since you don't spray at a dead stop.
70 acres to spray on that little open station tractor...I'll stick with the cab lol
I have farmed for over 50 yrs and have never needed the type of stuff that you push. Spending money on equipment does not help the bottom line in most cases. Good luck with all the stuff you promote, hope you are getting it for free.
Do ya enjoy the content? Do you like to see someone doing things a little different than you...things that work v/s paying the fertilizer man to come out and take your money? Does a 3pt sprayer seem like a waste of money for a farm? Tractor? Mower? I'm wondering...why would you want to put me down for showing you what I'm doing here? 50 years of farming and you don't try new things? I'm sorry...but I don't have it all figured out....but I do try and use my manners if at all possible buddy.
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer You comment in ignorant. Respect those that farmed long before you. New is not always better. We recycled animal manure for most fertilizers and added lime when necessary. Maybe you should learn from the past as you are a brand new farmer with little experience.
