  • With this video I show how I use a hose to create natural looking color patterns in faux rock. Simple and effective! I use high quality exterior latex house paint and a water hose to direct the paint flows over and down the rock surfaces. Hello, I’m going to attempt to built a concrete pond. Do you seal the paint with something to stop it from peeling off? Particularly rocks that are partly submerged? 😊Thanks from London, UK.

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  Před 26 dny +1

      Thanks for the question John! Ya, I never seal my painted rockwork. Other rock guys do but I just use high quality exterior latex house paint. FYI submerged rockwork doesn't peel if it's a biological pond, (has plants and fishes). The paint does fade, (not peel) when in people pools that have chlorine in them over time. But for your pond build the easiest way to do that is by using a pond liner, (rubber EPDM or other type of water proof material) over which you can apply concrete. You can also build ponds without any concrete but I like concrete because it protect the liner and makes getting in and out to clean it easier. This video shows an example of this strategy, (concrete over rubber liner): czcams.com/video/JKYnssK_whQ/video.html No faux rockwork was used on this project other than a little paint on the pond shell itself which in short order gets totally covered by algae. To learn more on pond building and rockwork you can download free pdf files and/or look into getting some of my other content to help you with your project if ya like. See: davehenderson.podia.com Anyway, I hope this info helps and good luck! :)

    I tried this and often it seems like all the color washes away and find myself coloring it again. It may be the colder climate up in Oregon compared to California that it does not dry up as fast enough and just runs off. I played around with a blow dryer and that seemed to help. Just been experimenting and practicing. Definitely a skill in itself.

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  Před 2 lety

      Yes, the misting does rinse the color away if to much water goes on. Just gotta use less or try a pump spray bottle with water instead of a hose. :)

    • @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos
      @DaveHendersonFakeRockVideos  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Eric, yes, acid stains are great in that they penetrate the concrete/mortar providing a more long lasting look. The problem is they have a limited color spectrum that also can't lighten rockwork. I do use them for pond basins and stream beds none the less at times.
