  • Another episode of my Dr Vstrom video series and an actual primary one if you consider that most important service tasks are better performed with the fuel tank removed.
Therefore tasks such as spark plug replacement, engine coolant replacement and air filter maintenance I prefer to perform them together and with the fuel tank and the plastics around it off. Even though some of the tasks might be possible with some of the plastics and the fuel tank on, yet there is a high risk to damage, scratch, motorcycle parts.
The tutorial demonstrates on a DL 650 Vstrom L0 model but the steps are applicable to the entire Vstrom family.

It’s an incredible amount of work just to get to the air filter. What a weird design. Thank you for the video because I bet that a mechanic would charge quite a lot of Labour time to get this done.

Thank you DOC. I have watched some of your videos off and on for some time but, never had a Vstrom. I recently acquired a very nice '07 with 23,000 miles/37,000 kilometers and so far have replaced the chain and sprockets. Now I'm digging in and changing coolant, air filter and spark plugs. I have a Climer manual that I purchased right away for reference. Usingthe it requires a lot of skipping around through the manual that I will hopefully become acustomed to using. Your videos have always impressed me and now I have the opportunity to put your procedures into practice.
Thank you again from the beatiful Ozark mountains of southern Missouri, USA.

I own a 2013 model. I finally pulled the tank off yesterday, 4/5/21. What a PITA. I've been a aircraft mechanic and worked as a M.E. Tech for 34 years. If I sell this bike I probably won't get another Vstrom. I couldn't imagine making repairs in the field.

Thank you for this nice work, its great that you took this time to document the process in such a clear manner. Your English is also very good indeed well done and keep the good work up.
To help you here is the meaning of "Prop" which in this context means a support. Prop has many meanings in English...
PROP To support, or prevent from falling, by placing something under or against; as, to prop up a fence or an old building; to sustain; to maintain; as, to prop a declining state.

2 of the tasks involving the removal of the big plastics from either side of the fuel tank are:
"Spark plug section 2-6" and "Cooling system 2-18" of the Complete Suzuki manual that is not provided with the bike and you have to buy. These plastics are referred to as Left and Right cowling inside that manual and are described on section "Chassis 7-7".
