    I've been riding for 40+ years and there are people riding for 4 years that know 10 times more than I do; there's lots to learn! That's why I really appreciate all the advice - even a seasoned mechanic can pull out something useful from these video clips . . .

    Hi, great video, I had read how to do this but needed to see a video to know whether I can do this myself, or if I should get a mechanic to do it (I have lots of car mechanical experience, but not motorbikes). Also really helpful to know what tools and things are required before starting the job, and other tips like the cardboard cut-out, very handy. It's great that you have taken the time to show people how to do this.

    Best way to adjust drivechain is using a rear paddock stand (Not on the centre stand with the rear wheel hanging and not under any load)... by using the stand you're putting the natural weight of the bike on the slackness of the drivechain and you'll get a more accurate reading. If you don't have a paddock stand then do the job with the bike on the side stand. This is do-able but not as straightforward and easy.

    • @zlatkoreder461
      @zlatkoreder461 Před 7 lety +1

      You are right Mark. You cannot and should not adjust the chain without any load. If you adjust it without load then it is already too tight - or in another words the slack is not enough. Now two people sit on it and you have a problem with too much tension which may provoke serious problems.

    Regarding the loose chain, yes its might be better than a tight one but as long as its not too loose. The tools that come with the bike are fine if you on the road and you cannot get your hands on more precise tools.The "feel the right torque" is a matter of choice that not all people have the skills for it. My opinion on wax oil is the same as yours and yes you need to have a warm chain for it to be best applied. Hope it helps

    This is an excellent video. I've never been this precise cleaning chains, but after viewing I can see the value of doing it right. With that said, I've take extreme care of chains and got 30 000 km's of use, and then pretty much ignored them and got 20 000 km's. Not sure if the work is worth it? Also, was wondering about o-ring vs x-ring, which one is better? Finally, are the stock sprockets just as good for this bike, given it's normal uses, than the more expensive aluminum after markets?

    Doesn't the manual actually say, to tighten the chain while on the SIDE stand, not the CENTER stand. 2-3cm on the center stands is a different story than 2-3cm on the side stand. On the center stand, the rear wheel shock is extended all the way, on the side stand it isn't. And that changes the stretch of the chain.

    The amount of loose chain should be check with the bike on the side stand . This notice is from the english canadian owner's manual page 6-23 . Not very practical since you have to check multiple spot on the rear sproket at different clock arrangement ( nothing perfectly round ). But those value 2-3 cm of chain slack are good only with the bike on the side stand . Couldn't be the same value on the center-stand since the swing-arm gonna be in full extend .

    Hello and thank you for the videos. I believe, the manual says, it is not allowed to use Kerosin. There are special chain cleaners instead. They should be less destructive for chain and should evaporate faster leaving the chain ready to be lubed quicker.

      No, the manual says you SHOULD use Kerosene. The good Dr. is correct.

    Reference this video for the cleaning/lubing process, but there is a newer more detailed version which demonstrates how to check your chain state, adjust, align & compares doing those tasks on the side, center or paddock stands. czcams.com/video/TJi4f6FUH-I/video.html

    Thanks, go to the middle of the chain. Turn the wheel until you find the tightest chain spot. Measure the upwards or downwards play of the chain at that spot, (ie pull up and push down the chain at that same spot measuring with the meter). This should be between 2-3 cm but if you are on the center stand make it 2.5-3.5 to be correct. If you have any questions send me a message. Take care

      aka 1 inch or 1" from top to bottom of range in loosest spot , 1" is per manual

    According to the manual the chain should be adjusted on the side stand.

      Vlad the manual assumes not all have a center stand. Also refer to this most updated video to adjust and align the chain czcams.com/video/TJi4f6FUH-I/video.html . It also shows that adjusting whether on side, center or with someone sitting has min difference. Enjoy and ride safe.

      @@DrVstrom thank You. Just finished checking my sprocket and chain loose distance and boy oh boy, lots of sticky lube and gravel in the sprocket cover...my gears were shifting badly. And the slack was somewhere around 5 cm of my chain. Will follow your channel for more tutorials.
